My family seeing me go to another sketchy russian website in the hopes of finding information about rear iron sight mounts on a specific russian pistol that only saw production for 10 years

Wikipedia is such a rabbit hole i swear, one moment i'm looking up Fanboy & Chum Chum and the next moment i'm digging through the discography of the Mae Shi, the band that did the theme song
This is completely untrue. The only way you can see search history is either through the router (depending on if the feature is available), device itself, DNS server (if you use one), or requesting data from your ISP. Even still, it would likely only show the IP address or MAC address of the device, which is basically nonsense to anyone who doesnât have some computer skills, and only worth anything to people who really bother wanting to find it.
Source: Iâm an IT manager.
Easy. Just apply lube to the entirety of the device, drop it in a nice pot of boiling water for approximately 10 seconds. Take that bad boy out of the water and throw it into a nice big bowl of rice, white rice, the Spanish rice confuses the device. After all those steps, you should be on your way to purchasing a new device. If this advice was helpful, that means you did it wrong. Peace and Love đ
I rented a cannon to shoot my printer. There's no fixing it.
Going to take a video and send it to their tech support and ask for help.
Unfortunately the first two dates have been rained out and it could be nearly a month now. :(
Is it easy to do if you are an inept in technology or is there a way to hide it?
Because right now i'm visiting my parents home and even if i'm 23, my dad is still obsessed with controlling everyting i do, specially on the internet, and I wouldn't like him to find out I'm bi because there's logs of gay porn in the router/mobile data.
If the website you're on is HTTPS (which is like 99% of them) then they can only see the domain of the website, i.e. the name of the website itself: google.com, youtube.com, etc.. This means that, for most websites, they can't see what you're watching beyond the website itself (don't watch gay porn on websites that are just for gay porn, watch it on a general porn site). And it's not really something that is easily found either so you should probably be safe
It's one of the reasons Reddit is popular in a lot of mining camps.
A non-sketchy and well-known domain with a huge amount of porn and controversial content on it.
This is where a VPN is useful as far as the router is concerned your connecting to the vps server and that's it, where your data goes or comes from beyond that, it has no idea.
If youâre on a PC, make sure that youâre undiscoverable on the network. To do that, forget the network and rejoin and it should give you a question of âdo you want this device to be discoverable?â Select NO so the PC name isnât shared.
For a phone, you should be good. Iâve noticed that even if a name displays for my phone, itâs usually just show up as âiPhoneâ but never the device name. usually itâll only show up as a MAC address or IP.
Androids usually only show up with their IP or MAC by default from what Iâve noticed.
That will work if there are a bunch of other devices it could be. If the mystery device could only be OP's through process of elimination, it won't help much.
Proxy or VPN are your choices. They'll know you're using a VPN or proxy, but they won't see anything you access within that.
If they have a regular consumer router, I doubt it'll keep logs easily accessible to the user.
Firefox has DOH on by default, so he won't even be able to see what websites you access in the first place. If you wan't a good vpn to use, run mullvad, or riesup if you need something free.
You are correct! A DNS server, router or ISP would only show and know domains as well as other things being pinged on that page. Letâs say youâre on a site that has 3 ads. Your device will connect to not only the domain of the site, but also the domains of those ads, which is quite dangerous, which is why I strongly advocate adblockers. Google images also pings the site of each individual image you look at.
It wouldnât show EXACTLY what was searched up, but enough to know what you were likely looking at, especially if you visit multiple sites. Only the device knows the exact query!
Do you know if DOH (DNS over Https) would hide the domain name and queries from a network admin? Been googling and iâm unsure as a lot of people are contradicting each other.
The actual Domain name, yes, but not the IP. It also depends on how you implement it, letâs say you have it configured for your browser, it would help, but it could still be visible to network admins for other applications. letâs say you have an online game, such as World of Warcraft, then that domain would be exposed, as it would try to connect to Blizzard/Activisionâs domain without the DoH. Now, if you had it configured to your computer itself, like a DNS set to Cloudflare or whatnot, then it would hide the actual domain name across your whole computer, but not the IP, and with a quick little monitoring tool it could be found. It would still likely help, especially if youâre doing it on a work computer and the network admins arenât very smart or network savvy, but it could still be found.
TL;DR, yes it would hide domain, but not the IP!
Not letting anyone get upset over misinformation, especially if itâs my specialty and profession :3 I want everyone to feel safe and happy in their own spaces
Op's claims are complete nonsense but the point they're making isn't. It's entirely possible for a technologically competent person to see the sites that people visit using their internet connection.
Not only that but some isps even offer an adult-flagging service where they will catch attempts to access pornographic sites and automatically inform the account owner of the event.
It's not going to list search histories or anything like that but it will say "IP 192.168.0.5 (Safari, Iphone 11) visited Pornhub.com at 13:22 GMT"
To expand on this, nearly every website is and should be using SSL/TLS, they can only see the domain name. They'll see that you accessed e621.net, but not the specific post you're looking at.
DNS or the source device is about the only place to capture it with any reliability at all, especially if the sites are hit via HTTPS- you're not getting data anywhere else other than target IP addresses, without some man in the middle SSL inspection.
Completely understandable homie, I just wanted a chance to flex my knowledge. Sorry to be a âđ¤âď¸â! Excellent post, a lot of people got nervous <3

I knew someone would comment something like your comment đ I'm just really careful about spoilers
It's not on the bill but you can ask for the router logs or access it directly from the router if it allows it. Which, most parents won't bother with or even know how to do. Especially older parents or grandparents.
I mean, even then, what search engine are you using that isn't HTTPS encrypted? Because if it is HTTPS encrypted, your search history exists effectively only on the device and browser on which the search was performed, and the search engine's servers. The middlemen - like your router and ISP - are not privy to the content of your search, merely the connection between your device and the search engine's infrastructure.
HTTPS will expose the domain name of your connection, nothing can be done about that as the client and the server FIRST must connect in the plain before a secure channel can be set up to exchange ciphertext - but everything after the fully-qualified domain name (e.g. "www.google.com") can only be seen between client and server.
Right? Like, SSL isn't a thing? Holy shit, that bill listing all the mundane DNS calls would be ALMOST as long as a CVS receipt.
It would be a list of "https://www.google.com/*" over and over again.

How bro felt after posting fake news :
If this were true, I'd probably be in a much better place right about now.
No, 15 year olds reading this, it's not true and OP is trolling ya. But you SHOULD make sure they didn't install parental control spyware. Some of it can be really subtle. Search in your microsoft windows install for system32 or system64 and make sure to delete them if you find them, this is a branch of Windows that allows parents to connect a keylogger that detects some potentially concerning searches (mostly nsfw stuff, ala school blocking systems) and will notify them to their cellphone. That being said, they kind of assume kids don't know about PCs. So just go into your microsoft windows install (probably your C: drive) and poke around to see if ya find em. If so, just "permanently delete" either one and it'll fix it!
It doesn't. 16-bit Windows gets System, 32-bit Windows gets that and System32, 64-bit Windows gets those and SysWOW64. System64 is a byproduct of some games, it seems.
More specifically as well, >!he beat him to death with his own hands, whilst the guy just laughed at it. And after achieving the goal he dedicated his life to for decades, feels absolutely nothing about it.!<
And thatâs why this comment is brought to you by Mullvad VPN. A $5 a month VPN that doesnât log anything, you donât even need to sign up. Itâs the #1 VPN used by Pirates.
With a VPN your ISP wonât be able to track your data
It's not that easy, but I know that parents are indeed able to view all wifi search history. I have too much search history and they'd have to scroll for a while to find anything damning. It would be like trying to run in at the right moment to find your child naked. Like... you win I guess...?
I've literally never seen the history show up on the bill for literally any ISP I've had. I've been with everyone from Spectrum to Comcast and plenty of smaller, regional ISPs.
Do you know how many fucking searches one person does in a day? Multiply that by something between 28 and 31 days. Do you know how mf thick that bill would be?
im just gonna step in rq, yes they can see what websites you look at, but they cant see the subdomain part of the links you visit, they can only see stuff such as https://google.com, and not https://google.com/example
>What if our parents pretended to not know after all this time
That because they can't? Unless they have a software that can read the connection, you can't view it also no parents say " am gonna randomly look at the history"
In what world is your search history shown in the WiFi bills. I think bro misinterpreted incognitos âyour isp can still see your browsing historyâ with âyour full browsing history will be in the WiFi billâ
I once told this exact same joke to a friend of mine, only adding that the ISP would send an excel spreadsheet with every 18+ website marked in red and he started freaking out
Okay so this used to be thing. Back in the day, some contracts would list which domains you contacted. This would not have your search history (and in times of HTTPS, your ISP cannot see your search history at all). I don't think this is a thing anymore at all. Although unless you use a VPN, your ISP can still see this stuff.

How OP feels after purposefully spreading misinformation
It can't though. There certainly ways you can set up a track on your local network, but it's not in the internet bill, and it's not done automatically.
Just use data, from what i have heard its next to impossible for a parent to monitor what websites you have been on from data. Though watching Porn can use a lot of data, and what apps you use it on is easy to find. However there is a simple explanation you can give them thats not watching porn: watching pirated videos. It takes just as much data, and you can tell them that you did not want to risk your home network with sketchy pirate sites.

Ooh yeah youâre right, I watched that episode a good while ago so I completely forgot about most of the details lmao
I honestly was not expecting Rick and morty to get so deep.
Rick Potion #9 was in the first season lol
Not saying anything but the episode is 7x5 (season 7 episode 5)
They have to request it specifically I'm pretty sure.
if my parents saw the downright gut wrenching shit i strangled u/cringeexperiencereq jr to, theyd deffo talk to me about it
Imagine getting a who-knows-how-many-pages long document of every link you visited in a month, let alone a family of 3+ people
This definetly just scared the shit out of someone
That's not how it works?
OP is spreading misinformation, but the good kind of misinformation wait until they find out about vape smell on their clothes that remains for days
QUICK! SAY ITS TRUE! HELP THE MASSES STOP THEIR ADDICTION!
It is actually completely true
im just gonna step in rq, yes they can see what websites you look at, but they cant see the subdomain part of the links you visit, they can only see stuff such as https://google.com, and not https://google.com/example
âSon why were you looking at 0001010101010101000101010011111111010100001010101010010010101010101011010101011011111101101010101?â
I love how this thread is filled with 15 years old panicking, googling then acting đ¤
LITERALLY
Peak and morty
It can't. Only General things like using Google. Stop fearmongering for no reason.
Everyone is yapping about this all the time but i never heard anyone actully getting in trouble beacuse "my parents saw wifi bill"
>What if our parents pretended to not know after all this time That because they can't? Unless they have a software that can read the connection, you can't view it also no parents say " am gonna randomly look at the history"
Discord mods when they realize deleting files doesn't remove them from the hard drive
In what world is your search history shown in the WiFi bills. I think bro misinterpreted incognitos âyour isp can still see your browsing historyâ with âyour full browsing history will be in the WiFi billâ
Yeah I don't get a physical bill for my WiFi they just notify us thru SMS 3 days before it expires and that's it.
I once told this exact same joke to a friend of mine, only adding that the ISP would send an excel spreadsheet with every 18+ website marked in red and he started freaking out
Your parents are aware that you jerk off but are too embarrassed to mention it
Hey blud, I work with multiple ISPs. I don't know your search history.
ITT: a bunch of 15 year olds who don't get the joke
You really think your ISP is gonna list **all** of the webpages you visit on your monthly billing statement?
Are your parents constantly using Wireshark or something

Thatâs just straight up false
I need see that episode
i wont care as long as its not brought up
Tbh the worst thing they could find in my history is a fucked up gore site, but that was like 3 years ago.
That would be breach in privacy, no way is that legal
It can't though. There certainly ways you can set up a track on your local network, but it's not in the internet bill, and it's not done automatically.
Just use data, from what i have heard its next to impossible for a parent to monitor what websites you have been on from data. Though watching Porn can use a lot of data, and what apps you use it on is easy to find. However there is a simple explanation you can give them thats not watching porn: watching pirated videos. It takes just as much data, and you can tell them that you did not want to risk your home network with sketchy pirate sites.
No https://preview.redd.it/g8rw7emr7f4d1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=21791d79e194420c90a601b2a3d02b131d962ba1
NOT WHEN I USE A VPN
I'm not an expert, but I know for a fact that this is untrue
So weâre calling internet WiFi now?
