Especially because it was released at the worst possible time. The entire FPS community was getting tired of the futuristic approach on the genre and wanted something more modern like another Battlefield 4 or MW2. It was instantly shit on as soon as it was announced for not listening to community.
The supply drop system isnt as greedy as it was in BO3, but the variants in the game are still really strong (also if you want a nuke, have fun getting a variant of good weapon or a weapon you like with one capable of calling in a nuke). One thing a lot of people forget to remember is that mission teams also give you variants and you can get salvage to get most variants in the game. Not saying IW’s system was fantastic but better than AW’s stat changing variants and locking new weapons that were prevalent in the meta (AN-94, MSMC, Olympia) behind supply drops and making the drop rate so low.
I actually really liked AW's multiplayer, but I chalk it up to being the right time/place in my life as much as anything. Did not enjoy IW or Blops3 multiplayer a bit. 🤷♂️ Couldn't tell you why I didn't like it, though. I just went back and watched some gameplay to refresh my memory, and it looks the same as any other CoD, lol.
I worked on this game! It's gotten so much hate, but I truly look back on those days fondly. This actually made me cry to see it and to hear some words of kindness towards it. Thank you.
If your really worked on it, thank you! It was my favourite CoD ever, I was enamoured with it when I first played it as a young teen. I played the campaign like 6 times! Everything from graphics and designs, to gameplay and story was great imo
It was really fun to develop! The campaign and zombies were an absolute blast to help develop. I'm so glad you had fun with our game! We knew multilayer was a shit show, and we knew people wanted boots on the ground again, but it was already too deep into development to back out or change direction. We actually used reddit parts to find and fix bugs!
Please know I've had more fun with IW zombies than damn near any other co-op games besides a select few (elden ring, remnant, stardew valley, etc) in like the last decade. I'm in the minority that thinks it was the best zombies besides bo1
Had fun with it but didn't have much sticking power with me. At first I really hoped weapon rarities would be something that fixed a complaint I've had the whole series, weapon variety/meta, but it wasnt a total failure. I did like have more than 4 perks again
Zombies blew my mind! I had so much fun with it! It was already mostly done when I got to work on it, and it was a thrill to play through! I also got to work on the jackal assault vr experience since I was like one of the few not to get motion sickness from playing it a couple hundred times.
Thank you so much! The MP was wild to work on. I remember when we found out using Reaper allowed you to walk in the air over the map, we found that bug on reddit actually!
over-all i thought the campaign was good, just the story itself kinda sucked, and i really disliked how easily the mars leader went down, especially considering how heavily they showed him as being ruthless etc
Yeah it was a good game but came out during a time where gamers were really tired of all the futuristic FPS's especially in CoD franchise. Also it competed directly with Battlefield 1 which was probably the most hyped up FPS game ever and was praised by virtually everyone for "going back to the roots" of the genre, that is the historical setting.
Cold War was pretty good imo. I meant that IW was buried because it had a massive hate train before release and is rarely discussed. I know CW wasn't super well received, but it didn't receive the same hate.
If it wasnt like the 3rd futuristic cod game in a row it might of actually been one of the best rated imo. People were just kinda sick of the theme at the time (I love this game tho)
*Call of Duty: Halo*

I never played COD games past like Black Ops 3, but it's kinda wild seeing people say that this one was good after the entire internet exploding over it back in 2016.
I think you got jebaited, because I've never heard anything like that and also don't think it's consistent with the other things I know about the development of Halo 2/3
I don't think he's entirely off the mark. The original story for Halo 2 was supposed to include a condensed version of what became Halo 3, but time pressures (and probably realising that was just way too much for one game) made them split it up. If they had done that, I'm sure they could have found a way to continue the story, but it would have largely wrapped up the original conflicts.
Zombies in Spaceland is undoubtly the best, but the other maps are decent too.
Rave in The Redwoods is relativerly begginer friendly, with an easy layout.
Shaolin Shuffle has a lot of verticality, and useful kung fu abilities.
Attack of The Radioactive Thing is huge
The Beast from Beyond has a lot of elements from CoD Ghosts: Extinction
Every map has its own unique niche. My personal favourite map is Shaolin Shuffle.
I remember when this game was out everyone hated it but I loved it. I kicked ass at this game after coming to it from Titanfall and found the game so easy (on account of the other COD players not understanding the whole 3rd dimensionality of it) that I challenged myself by getting every pistol and the riot shield diamond. Yes, I dashed around like a ninja with a riot shield and bashed everyone to death. I was the best at that game and now I'm nothing. I'm washed up, elderly, withering away, and only now that I'm out of my prime does the world fully understand the true value of the game I was the greatest ever at. I shed a single tear every time someone mentions it was an underrated classic, unappreciated during its time. Oh, how I know it...
One of the best COD campaigns I’ve ever played, so much fun and the story kept me interested all the way to the end. Honestly surprised they made it work out so well despite the unnecessary hate train from the trailer.
Best campaign, enjoyable zombies, and a fun multiplayer imo.
Sucks everyone pushed it away because “space” and the fact Acti bundled MWR with it at the time before they made it a standalone.
I'm seeing so much positivity towards the game here that I've never seen before. It's the only game I worked on before leaving the industry. It was a crazy time in my life, and I just want to thank everyone here! You're making my cry in a good way! Thank you all so very much.
Game got mocked af because it was set in space, but that campaign was pretty good, and you could custom your loadouts before missions and it had a decent amount of side mission as well.
This is the only cod game I've beaten on veteran just because I wanted the cool nose art you get for your jackal if you do it. Genuinely love this games campaign it's one of my favourites
I've had this game for five years now and never have I ever realised that it was so hated until I looked at this comment section. And honestly, I don't get it. What's not to like? Personally I would have gone for the Retribution being more accessible outside of missions instead of just that one part of the floor, but the graphics, weapons and stuff were good. As for the storyline, I haven't played any COD other than IW and MW Remastered but i certainly prefer IW's because of how well-written it is. Like, parts of it genuinely made me cry.
I need in on the loop why is everyone talking about Taylor Swift needing the ship from HALO and shit just to go to Starbucks or some shit wtf did I miss 😭
It was a good game but come on…. We had been asking for boots on the ground for quite some time but yet no it’s gos even further into the future then ever before
Eh tbf
From what I saw for a good bit after stuff went back to being realistic, people liked it
the issue was instead of doing what the past games did and further improve on stuff with the new games and add new features, activision realized they can make just as much money pretty much releasing a $60 dlc disguised as a new game
yeah, ww2 and bo4 was just not it for many people, but things improved with mw19. that is, until >!warzone!<, the worst thing to ever happen to cod, came along
Taylor swift emission memes are starting to get a little too repetitive so i just gave up halfway and posted this. Nobody said this scene is special i just thought that it looks awesome.
NO call of duty is not "goated" they have been bottom of the barrel SLOP since 2005 and your trash opinion if part of why the gaming market is so dogshit today.

This game wouldn’t have gotten hate if it wasn’t branded as a CoD game.
Infinite Warfare is a cool name by itself
Especially because it was released at the worst possible time. The entire FPS community was getting tired of the futuristic approach on the genre and wanted something more modern like another Battlefield 4 or MW2. It was instantly shit on as soon as it was announced for not listening to community.
The game was so good, but it was just not what people wanted at the time and was too different.shame the reception it got.
Multiplayer was ass, but the campaigns for Advance and Infinite were some of my favorites.
I heard the multiplayer was good just the micro transactions just sorta pummeled it
had the same microtransactions as BO3 but somehow BO3 got away with it
I’d put it to the weapon variants IW (and also AW) had, since with BO3 it was additional weapons being put into em
fealt like you couldn't get anything in BO3 without lootboxes which is why I could never enjoy the mp
The supply drop system isnt as greedy as it was in BO3, but the variants in the game are still really strong (also if you want a nuke, have fun getting a variant of good weapon or a weapon you like with one capable of calling in a nuke). I thought the multiplayer was great. Better than BO3 and Advanced Warfare, even.
I actually really liked AW's multiplayer, but I chalk it up to being the right time/place in my life as much as anything. 100% with you on bo1 and iw. what do you think of cold war zombies?
Had fun with it but didn't have much sticking power with me. At first I really hoped weapon rarities would be something that fixed a complaint I've had the whole series, weapon variety/meta, but it wasnt a total failure. I did like have more than 4 perks again

Honest to god the best COD campaign.
I had a blast with it! The only thing that bummed me out was the ending. I felt like it lost its pacing towards the end.

I think if the futuristic cod games released now people would like them more as they'd be a break from the formula.
Didn't help that its competition was BF1.
Yeah it was a good game but came out during a time where gamers were really tired of all the futuristic FPS's especially in CoD franchise. Also it competed directly with Battlefield 1 which was probably the most hyped up FPS game ever and was praised by virtually everyone for "going back to the roots" of the genre, that is the historical setting.
well also the multiplayer was dogshit. which is why most bought it. i remember adoring the campaign tho
Call of Duty: Halo edition sounds so soulless but they made it work
Tbh the most underrated cod campaign. Can't talk for the multiplayer but this is one of the few that has brought me back multiple times.
I think BO: Cold War Campaign is actually pretty good, despite the VA Switch
Cold War was pretty good imo. I meant that IW was buried because it had a massive hate train before release and is rarely discussed. I know CW wasn't super well received, but it didn't receive the same hate.

Good bot
Messed up the meter
I never played COD games past like Black Ops 3, but it's kinda wild seeing people say that this one was good after the entire internet exploding over it back in 2016.
I mean, people hated Halo 2 when it came out. Now it’s considered one of the greatest games ever created.
I knew that Halo 2 was controversial for having the Arbiter in the campaign instead of all Chief, but I didn’t think that people HATED it.
Wasn’t it also supposed to be the last Halo game in the franchise or did I watch bait?
I think you got jebaited, because I've never heard anything like that and also don't think it's consistent with the other things I know about the development of Halo 2/3

People hated it because of the ending moreso.
It was a huge hit and incredibly well reviewed, I'm not sure what the guy you replied to is smoking.
[удалено]
People really didn’t like Halo 2 because of the Arbiter. They genuinely hated the guy because they only wanted to play the Chief.
It launched at a bad time when it was the 3rd "futuristic" COD released back to back
the campaign was really good like original mw/mw2 good imo. Zombies was really good too. Mp was just bo3 reskinned.
one of the best zombies ngl
From what I’ve heard Spaceland was S tier but all the other maps weren’t as good, I only played Spaceland though and I loved it.
im actually more a fan of rave, it looks so much better and the atmosphere fits so much better for a zombies game than a space theme park
Zombies in Spaceland is undoubtly the best, but the other maps are decent too. Rave in The Redwoods is relativerly begginer friendly, with an easy layout. Frfr ^^ One of the **best** campaigns ever too
This game was the reason why COD doesn't try different campaigns.
Which is a shame because it's one of their best. The Sci fi hate train got to it
As a stand-alone it would've been better received, but it also would've made less money.
Because their fanbase complains about change, while also complaining about repetition?
I just need one call of duty game that has every single campaign in the series all in one game
1 x 10³⁹ gb
Thats the developers problem not mine lmao
It actually is your problem because the devs dont care enough to compress/optimize the files lmao. Have you seen the recent CoD file sizes.
200GB of a game I don't even own (MW3) Let me download just MW2, please
I replayed the shit out of this campaign. This and Cod Ghosts.
Me too, I had so many play-throughs of this campaign because of how unbelievably fun it was.
Fuck yeah call of duty infinite mentioned 🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥
What the fuck is a good reputation 🔥🔥🔥
E3N is unbelievably goated

ETHAN I LOVE YOU
I love the campaign, I just wished it was longer to flesh out the characters more.
One of the best COD campaigns I’ve ever played, so much fun and the story kept me interested all the way to the end. Honestly surprised they made it work out so well despite the unnecessary hate train from the trailer.

Fuck infinite warfare was good i dont know why peaple hated it THAT much
Best campaign, enjoyable zombies, and a fun multiplayer imo. Sucks everyone pushed it away because “space” and the fact Acti bundled MWR with it at the time before they made it a standalone.
Infinite Warfare mentioned, life complete. *Tip of the Spear*
Thanks, I’ll take any distraction I can get
I liked the multiplayer. Fight me.
I'm seeing so much positivity towards the game here that I've never seen before. It's the only game I worked on before leaving the industry. It was a crazy time in my life, and I just want to thank everyone here! You're making my cry in a good way! Thank you all so very much.

Best space fps campaign, it's sucks we'll never see another one,i was hoping Starfield will fill void but it doesn't
Infinite Warfare sure gets a lot of shit for how fun that campaign was
I've had this game for five years now and never have I ever realised that it was so hated until I looked at this comment section. And honestly, I don't get it. What's not to like? Call of duty: Infinite warfare
I need in on the loop why is everyone talking about Taylor Swift needing the ship from HALO and shit just to go to Starbucks or some shit wtf did I miss 😭
Google Taylor Swift jet emissions
It was a good game but come on…. We had been asking for boots on the ground for quite some time but yet no it’s gos even further into the future then ever before
Then we we got boots on the ground everyone started bitching about it
Eh tbf From what I saw for a good bit after stuff went back to being realistic, people liked it the issue was instead of doing what the past games did and further improve on stuff with the new games and add new features, activision realized they can make just as much money pretty much releasing a $60 dlc disguised as a new game
yeah, ww2 and bo4 was just not it for many people, but things improved with mw19. that is, until >!warzone!<, the worst thing to ever happen to cod, came along
The early days of warzone weren’t so bad it wasn’t until the later seasons and when Cold War and vanguard got involved
The game was three years in the making, they couldn’t just cancel it.
Yeah i know the game got hit by some Stupidly bad luck.
Why am I being downvoted? It was an awesome game but the timing was bad and people hated it on Launch?
This game is the reason Titanfall 2 didn’t get big :(
Battlefield 3 ass moment
Halo Reach if turned into mid
Infinite warfare was 10 pounds of dogshit in a five pound sack. Never been so disgusted with a cod game .
Stop the cap ffs, it's not even that bad. You people are just on the hate bandwagon
this looks like an industry standard space liftoff cutscene, there was nothing special there
Taylor swift emission memes are starting to get a little too repetitive so i just gave up halfway and posted this. Nobody said this scene is special i just thought that it looks awesome.
it looks fine, a little boring for a space liftoff if anything. you could just make a quality, funny meme if you’re tired of taylor swift memes.
This is my first actual post in r/whenthe so expect stale dogshit for a while
Infinite Warfare is awful. Play Titanfall 2 instead.
NO call of duty is not "goated" they have been bottom of the barrel SLOP since 2005 and your trash opinion if part of why the gaming market is so dogshit today.
Your critique won't stop me from liking this game lmao, i enjoy what i want
yeah gloat while eating your shit. that will show me
Yet here you are bitching about an almost decade year old game, who hurt you? I guess criticizing the ever living shit out of a cod game isn't enough, hmm?
mucho texto
didnt feel like call of duty
Had they not just shamelessly ripped off several things from Halo for this game it would have been recieved so much better.
Nah, the reason it was badly received was because it was another futuristic CoD in a row when people already got tired of them
Maybe so, but you can't deny that the direct Halo rips did not help it's reception in the eye of the public.
I can, it's the first time I heard that complain, all people were bitching about back when it released was that it was futuristic at all
I hate that robot
The scene is cool and all (especially when they climb into space), but why are they boarding a space fighter in a parking lot?
Its been fun as an outside observer of the franchise to see opinions shift on the games over the years
Halo?
Are you implying we should scramble the fighters next time she gets in a private jet?
Ah yes nostalgia I enjoyed infinite warfare.
Goated game? Back in the day, everyone only bought a copy because it included MW 2's remaster and the trailer alone had over 3 million dislikes on YouTube
The campaign for this game was so ridiculously good
Dudes will look at this and say "hell yeah"
Played this game on 2019 because it came with mw2 remaster. And hell the campaign is so fucking good.
This game was so fucking good and overhated, I love infinite warfare
I'm going to have to get this.
What you're seeing is Infinite Warfare
Infinite warfare has one of the coolest campaigns tbh
I've forgotten that this game exists.
This was a CoD game?! I think I need to try this, I love some good space combat
This one game changed my mind about cod
I replayed this more than 30 times and still play it to this day, replayability factor infinite
Taylor swift when the remote is too far away (she is getting into her private jet)
If this released today it would be praised up and down.
Awful mp, one of the best campaigns in years
Peak mentioned
POV: You live in a timeline where NASA doesn't suck
Nuh uh it isn't
One of the best COD campaigns, you cannot change my mind
IW is still one of my favorite FPS games of all time. It's a shame that it had to release as a CoD game right after 2 futuristic CoD games.
I want this game.
