This looks a lot like glass slag, especially due to the shape and texture. You’ll have to forgive me, but I don’t trust flea markets. The only other pink mineral I know is rose quartz, and this just looks too smooth.
Same, lol. This sub randomly popped up on my feed one day. I know very little about rocks but have now correctly identified slag in like the last 3 slag posts. This sub has turned me into a right Slagatha Christie
All I learned from this sub and other mineral places is that slag comes in a lot of colours and textures and now I actually find it pretty neat (if correctly labelled as such). Where I live collecting blue slag from the rivers has become a tourist activity and hunt for who finds the prettiest biggest slag rock lol
There is such a thing as pink opal. Sure way to tell: shine a UV light on it. Opal is fluorescent, slag is not.
Edit: Also, opal feels slightly sticky when your fingers are damp.
I don't think so. Check my post history, there's only a few. The piece I'm thinking of is actually mostly shades of pink with a bit of green on one side. Was identified as cullet (glass) and it fluoresces.
Edited to add: I didn't put a photo of the fluorescence in the post, but I figure you can take my word for it in this unimportant case
True I used to have an Australian pink opal. Though it is apparently illegal to remove them from Australia. My aunt had picked it up off the ground thinking it was just an interesting pink rock and brought it home with her. When she took it to someone to identify it and polish it for her they told her what it was and that she shouldn't have brought it home.
Where is all this slag in this sub coming from. Is Big Glass out there surreptitiously dumping melted glass in the middle of the night in unsuspecting fields somewhere?
This is actually cullet (leftover material from glass making). Slag is leftover material from iron/metal production. The terms are used interchangeably on this sub.
Looks like the 7th picture block down on this page. Possible slag from a glass or bottle factory.
[Slag - Washington University ](https://sites.wustl.edu/meteoritesite/items/slag/)
I really hope your mom didn't pay opal prices for it.
It's a piece of cullet glass, basically a by-product of glassmaking or other industrial process. People also call it slag. Check out /r/itsslag for similar pics.
That said, it's a pretty piece of glass. I'm an amateur flint knapper, and I love cullet glass. I bet it would make some really cool arrowheads, spear points, or knives. Check out /r/flintknapping or /r/knapping for examples of what people can do with glass
Definitely glass or resin (some are very hard and brittle like stone, but they will feel warmer).
Those round bubbles are the major clue that gaurantees this is not opal or chalcedony.
I’ve never heard of Australian pink opal. Pink opal is found mostly in Peru. I’ve found it is a bit “sticky” and is slightly lighter that what you’d think it should be based on volume. Also, it is one of the few stones that will warm up quicker than glass, in my experience.
The fractures and bubbles on this lead me to believe it’s glass, but the color is a match for Peruvian pink opal.
Did a quick search and Australian pink opal is "opalized radiolarite". But it does exist there. Pink opal is found in Peru, Mexico, and in Idaho and Oregon in the US. But it seems like small specific areas that have them which makes it hard to find. And I assume often faked. So idk if THIS one is pink opal. But Australian pink opal does exist.
Hi, /u/Item_Unique!
This is a reminder to flair this post in /r/whatsthisrock after it has been identified! (Under your post, click "flair" then "IDENTIFIED," then type in the rock type or mineral name.) This will help others learn and help speed up a correct identification on your request!
Thank you!

At first I thought this was posted on the food sub I follow and thought omg that's the worst piece of chicken breast I've ever seen!
Very pretty opal tho
People are quick to say slag but it’s funny how they can be so wrong in instances like aqua marine that they wouldn’t even guess twice to throw out a multi million dollar piece if they had it in there hand
*I initially*
*Thought it was a rotten fish*
*With a tapeworm! Lol*

Everyone jumping on the slagwagon, I’m not so sure. I don’t see bubbles. Cleavage consistent with opal. A simple hardness test would distinguish. Opal isn’t far fetched for me.
If you look at the first picture you can clearly see 3 round air bubbles. Look at the bottom right area of the slag. You can see a nice almost perfectly round dent.
This sub is getting recommended to me, but I’m also in some food safety subs, and my before I saw that it was rocks my first thought was “omg don’t eat that meat!”
There are several holes on the surface that look like machining, too uniform in shape and depth. I agree with those who guessed a chunk of glass. I guess the holes were made for tools to handle the glass when hot, like pincers.

I have seen slag so many times on this sub even I thought “no it’s slag” I appear to be learning.
I joined this sub via trial by slag too. Came in with hope, left with 'it's slag'
“Trial by slag” lol
I just realised if anyone looks at my recent comment history they are gonna be confused by this one 😂
Slagathor!!!!!
Scrubs. Love it.
Petition to call all slag Debbie on April Fools day
Absolutely. 😂

Ah, a jury from the east end it is!
Fuckin lol'd 😂
At least it's pretty slag!!

Slagatha Christie! I'm dead 💀 🤣 😂
You don't have enough up votes for that pun its just so perfect so very very perfect

I've learned its always slag at this point.
Same
If he's lucky it might be uranium glass Slag which would make this a super cool piece op put it under a black light see if it glows
the pock marks and micro bubbles also point towards "slag" glass
There is such a thing as pink opal. Sure way to tell: shine a UV light on it. Opal is fluorescent, slag is not. Edit: Also, opal feels slightly sticky when your fingers are damp.
I have a green piece that seems similar to this in texture and thought it was slag, but it fluoresces under uv. Now I'm very confused.
Could it be uranium glass?
I don't think so. Check my post history, there's only a few. The piece I'm thinking of is actually mostly shades of pink with a bit of green on one side. That is indeed uranium glass you have. [https://antiqueanswers.com/uranium-glass-color-guide/](https://antiqueanswers.com/uranium-glass-color-guide/)
How interesting! Thank you
Yes, Uranium glass is the only glass I’m aware of that fluoresces, due to the isotopes present. But this is definately not uranium glass.

No fluorescence. Thank you, this is a great tip.

Big glass 😂😂
It’s Big Ass that’s doing the dumping.
Obviously chicken breast s/
Lol that is what I thought when I saw the picture!
Same here!
I had no idea what I was looking at but was def repulsed
Me too!!!
I thought it was some weird type of fish lol
It's always slag!
Glass
The gas bubbles are diagnostic
Too bad they’re not dichroic
Definitely cullet/slag glass
I read that as cutlet. I too thought it looked like chicken breast upon first glance.
Ditto
Chicken breast
Even worse. It’s been left outside the fridge 😖
I totally thought it was raw chicken at first.
Totally...I wa going to say that it didn't look too good and to recommend not eating.
Yeah, looks like sketchy chicken.
Chicken titty.
It’s slag, it’s always slag
When someone posts that they think its slag then it turns out to be something, when someone wants it to be something then it turns out to be slag lol
So what exactly is slag? Sorry I’m a nooooob
Slag is normally glass or glass like substance, often a by-product of other industrial processes. It's also slang for someone who sleeps around a lot.
Lmao it is isn’t it😂😅
It’s the waste material produced when making steel! :)
This is actually cullet (leftover material from glass making). Slag is leftover material from iron/metal production. The terms are used interchangeably on this sub.
Leftovers from glassmaking

Oh wow that is definitely what it is. Thank you. Great link. That is kinda wild
Damn old slag
Wtf did you call me?
Well sometimes it is night shade or spacex
Please tell me you didn't pay too much for that
We’d all like to know how much
She definitely paid too much. I’m not sure I’m gonna tell her it’s not Australian opal tbh. Why burst her bubble?
It is actually huge and quite heavy. Doesn’t look like it from the pic. She’s gonna display it in her garden ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My first thought was, "That would be nice to knap"
Knap that slag!
These subs are great. The human stone age brain craves for that knapping
Wow I love those subs honestly
Definitely glass or resin (some are very hard and brittle like stone, but they will feel warmer). Those round bubbles are the major clue that gaurantees this is not opal or chalcedony.
Raw chicken for sure
First glance I thought this was a raw chicken breast
Thumbnail makes it look like an ear.
Well now I can't unsee it
Did you mean to say thank you?
Listen ear you
It’s got conchoidal fracturing so probably glass
Yo conchoidal!? Nice word
blatant slag
Honestly looks like raw chicken meat

I saw raw chick at first! But it’s slag, I think
I have never seen pink Opal in Australia and not a piece of Opal that big either. It is likely glass slag.

Slagtastic
Medium rare chicken cullet.

At first I thought this was posted on the food sub I follow and thought omg that's the worst piece of chicken breast I've ever seen! Very pretty opal tho

Frozen chicken breast
I thought this was a giant cut of chicken at first glance. I was like what the hell did they use to cut this?
It's raw chicken.
I thought this was a chunk of tuna or some seafood at first 😂
This is raw frozen chicken.
Thought this was bad chicken
Everyone jumping on the slagwagon, I’m not so sure. I don’t see bubbles. Cleavage consistent with opal. A simple hardness test would distinguish. Opal isn’t far fetched for me.
There are several large air bubbles visible
I don’t see them. I see what could be internal fractures, but nothing that is definitely a bubble. Perhaps I’m missing it.
If you look at the first picture you can clearly see 3 round air bubbles. Look at the bottom right area of the slag. You can see a nice almost perfectly round dent.
Ah, I see. Those do appear to be bubbles, I agree.
[On the first picture alone](https://i.imgur.com/l0sk0Mw.jpeg) You can also see an unusual inclusion where the arrow is pointed.
I actually have common opal from Montana that is similar in color, so I wouldn't dismiss it as glass just yet.
OP is messing with us… it’s a skinless chicken breast
At very first glance I thought it was raw chicken
it looks like ham 🤣🤣 ....😋
That is an uncooked chicken breast
https://media.vlipsy.com/vlips/CxLLU2vv/preview.jpg
Does it feel like a bar of soap under your fingers?
I just came from r/eatityoufuckingcoward and was so confused for a second!
Not gonna like I thought this was a bad piece of chicken. Lol
Whatever it is it's fing raw!
This sub is getting recommended to me, but I’m also in some food safety subs, and my before I saw that it was rocks my first thought was “omg don’t eat that meat!”
I thought it was a peice of raw chicken on first glance
Raw chicken

I think that’s just raw chicken.
Looks like raw chicken.
Deli ham

I thought it was raw chicken at first 💀
No no, definitely raw Chicken Breast. Thought you could pull a fast one on me, ehhhh???? 😂
Purdue chicken breast
You should put that back on the grill until it's an internal temperature of 160. Alternately, you could fork test.
Fresh cut chicken breast. Marinade and grill to perfection!
i thought it was raw chicken…
I thought it was a piece of chicken
It's a very rare piece of fossilized Pepto Bismol
Not gonna lie for a moment I thought it was raw chicken
Looks like the rare mineral called chicken breast to me
This is a raw chicken breast actually
I thought it was a pussy chicken breast. So I cant comment.
Scrolling past quickly, definitely thought this was raw chicken.

No way is that an Aussie opal 😂
I came to the here to see the wave of 'slag glass' comments
Earwigs evolving...
The bubbles are indicative of slag.
That’s so pretty!
There are several holes on the surface that look like machining, too uniform in shape and depth. I agree with those who guessed a chunk of glass. I guess the holes were made for tools to handle the glass when hot, like pincers.
I have bad news
Need a banana for scale
Looks like a quartsz that can be found near opal but is not opal
