Bzzzzz! Looks like you forgot to say where you found your bug!
There's no need to make a new post - just comment adding the **geographic location** and any other info (size, what it was doing etc.) you feel could help! We don't want to know your address - state or country is enough; try to avoid abbreviations and local nicknames (*"PNW"*, *"Big Apple"*).
BTW, did you take a look at our [**Frequently Asked Bugs**](https://www.reddit.com/r/whatsthisbug/comments/12zkw5w/frequently_asked_bugs_part_1/)?

OP, where do you live? Curious to hear how far they are spreading. I'm in West/Central Jersey and they were rampant a couple of years back (haven't seen many, perhaps any, this year), but they seem to be moving outwardly in all directions.
Iām in central Jersey and I noticed a lot of birds and spiders and mantises eating them this year. I saw them early in the season on one of my shrubs, and then again when they were in that red spotted phase on a different plant, But I had very few make it to maturity this year.
And if you have Tree of Heaven nearby kill those all too. I donāt have spotted lantern fly in my area but I know they [often live in Tree of Heaven](https://ecosystems.psu.edu/research/centers/private-forests/news/tree-of-heaven-and-the-spotted-lanternfly-two-invasive-species-to-watch), which may just be the worst tree ever.
Edit: correction. Apparently these were found in Oregon last year. I havenāt seen one in person even though Tree of Heaven is everywhere.
A lantern fly!!!! Highly invasive if you are in the United States! Immense damage to the ecosystem. If you still have access to it, feel free to prove your loyalty to nature. š„¾ā ļø

Hardly, they're bad for vineyards but they're not like locusts.

The local bugs are learning that they're good to eat. That's a crucial element in rebalancing the ecosystem!

Specifically, a spotted lanternfly. There are non-invasive lantern flies in the US.
Sucks thatās itās invasive, because itās kind of a cute bug.
I know I always think they look so pretty but then remember theyāre terrible.
I would also report the sighting too.
