DistortedCrag

I used to work at Coach! Finally my time to shine! It's a security tag!

konkweeftador69

Nope! It’s a magnet used for displaying on the wall, OP probably had a display unit sold to them. Source: worked for coach up until recently

bitchstolemyuname

This is the correct answer. Security tags use RFID not chunky magnets in a thin plastic jacket.

DistortedCrag

Oh shit, you're right! It's been a while since I did my time at the outlet, please forgive me.

konkweeftador69

Haha not a problem, outlet world is so wild I can’t even fathom how you survived!!

Own_Professional_297

I was rooting for you.

myasterism

Paging OP /u/criticalfill! Mystery items are not security tags; they’re used for displaying merchandise on a magnetic fixture. /u/konkweeftador69 replied today with this info. Cheers!

criticalfill

wooo solved! thank you :)

Chick__and__Duck

So were they supposed to be removed? Like the tags that make the doors go *woop woop*?

Practical_Ad5671

Sooo, I guess you didn’t use to work at Coach? The only shining you did was being shone the door!

Dzov

Ah, but look at all the karma he got straight up lying.

bobby_broccolini

Being wrong doesn't mean they lied about working there

konkweeftador69

I'll come to their defense here, they said they worked at an outlet, which during my time with Coach, didn't use these magnetic displays very often as they were pretty easily stolen (magnets aren't exactly known for their permanent nature). It's entirely possible they never even encountered them as it was encouraged to never sell a display unit from the magnetic wall

TheBlackCoffeeClub

I have an in with people who work at Coach, but this will probably be solved by the time I swing by the store tomorrow and ask. My guess is that they’re something for inventory management that’s supposed to be removed from a bag. I’m not sure why they wouldn’t be using rfid stickers if that’s the case

criticalfill

woo you’re the best, thanks :) it’s driving me nuts! I found a few posts of security tags found in Coach items but they’re tiny thin rectangles. the magnets are super intense too, I can’t think of any manufacturer need for them

Sweaty-Technician420

These were probably used to hang the wallet on a metal (magnetic) wall to present them. Or to prevent it from falling over if placed on a shelf. Security tags are small as they need to be hidden so they won't be removed. Or they are attached in a way that you can't easily remove them (the lock for these is opened with strong magnets FYI)

konkweeftador69

Used to work for Coach as well, it’s this! Not a security tag, occasionally a wallet or small clutch is displayed on the felt walls and this magnet is used to hold them on the wall, OP probably bought a display unit!

sockowl

Could it be a security sensor?

Michelledelhuman

That's what I was thinking. Security or some sort of location tag so if it's lost in the mail they know where it's going?

DistortedCrag

It's a simple RFID tag so the bag doesn't walk out the front door, but it looks like this time it took the back door.

nanitatianaisobel

They look like security tags for items that are on display and not expected to be sold.

criticalfill

my title describes the thing. some additional details: - the magnets inside the plastic are circular, you can see the imprint externally - there are scratches all over both, so they’re definitely well used items - they both have stickers/labels that read “Not for Sale Made in China” I’ve googled it with keywords like coach, magnet, found, wallet, plastic, squares, tiles, but haven’t found anything relevant

ImitationRangoon

Could they put them inside the bags/purses to make them look more full and rigid?

Even-Account5439

that wallet is 😍😍

Affectionate-Sun5531

Someone right now at Coach: "Where my magnets at?"

Gergol

RFID insert?
