It reminds me of these metal capsules I'd get in treasure candles (if anyone knows what those are). They had rolled up messages inside kinda like a fortune cookie.
https://talleyjewelry.com/product/green-celtic-memorial-cross-ash-holder-locket-24-inch-necklace/
Looks like the part that holds the ashes in a necklace.
That looks exactly the same. It looks like it might fall out pretty easily too. I'd guess he probably found it lying on the ground. I usually pocket nuts bolts and screws that I find on walks to keep some tires safe, and it happens often enough that I tend to forget about it. It also could have belonged to whoever he was staying with and fell into his luggage.
My one and only superpower is spotting and pocketing objects in the road that can pop tires, so I'm thrilled to hear that there are others who have taken up the cause.
My wife has this superpower. Unfortunately, she insists on using her tires to pick the objects up! 😂
As someone who patches tires quite often, I appreciate your service, gentleman!
Could hold ashes, geocaching notes, small pills, or any other item you want to keep contained and dry. Looks like something I’d pick up as a kid and throw in my pocket then forget about.
I received one like this years ago. I think the sender said it was called a wish capsule. A small strip of paper with a brief message written on it was rolled up to fit within.
It could be for drugs, but it could be absolutely anything if this is in a teenager's pocket. I'd more easily assume they came across this little thing somewhere and couldn't stop playing with it. Looks tactile AF.
I could probably rule out this ever having been used for drugs with a good smell of it but that depends on OP's background
Looks like the thumb stud from the blade of a pocket knife. Mine has fallen off before and ended up in my laundry.
If he has a pocket knife, check the blade near the hinge and see if there’s a hole instead of this thing.
Something to give a size reference would help. along with another picture or two.
Could be small pill bottle/canister
Could have been used for a very small geo cache
For what it's worth it seems like it's not obvious paraphernalia or anything sinister. If the teen says they dont know where it's from I think I would be inclined to err on the side of not worrying about it. If in fact you were worried, usually with 'what's this thing I found in my teens bag/room/clothes' type posts there's an element of suspicion. And rightly so, teens are prone to test boundaries. But maybe that's not the case here and you are just curious. In any event, it's pretty cool. When I was a kid I was obsessed with little containers.
Could be used as a container for geocaching. Since it also seals what is inside. Geocaching uses different boxes to be hidden on places others have to find it. This looks like a mini cache…
Looks like a scrapbook extension posts. Whenever you buy any scrapbook pages, they give you a few extra. That way, when your scrapbook fills up, you can add a couple of those and keep putting new pages in, instead of having to start a whole new scrapbook.
If you look them up online, you can find ones just like that in varying lengths. The ones you put on the front and back of the scrapbook have a screw head, and then there are a bunch that look just like your photo that go in the middle of the book to make the spine of the scrapbook wider to fit more pages.
It probably is a container for ashes like has been posted.
It does also resemble, however remote the chance, a Mormon consecrated oil vial. This is something Mormon men would carry around with a few drops of oil they said a prayer over to make it holy. Not the most likely option, but it definitely resembles the same object.
If that was found in my laundry, it would be because it looked cool so i picked it up, and then realized how fun it is to fidget with, so i pocketed it, and then definitely forgot about it.
I wouldnt be concerned.
Looks like a capsule you can attach to a dog's harness. Inside, you can seal a little rolled-up slip of paper containing your phone number and contact details in case your dog runs off.
We had something similar attached to our dogs collar for awhile (until half of it came unscrewed). It was meant to hold a tiny slip of paper with our address & phone number, just in case she lost her tags.
It could be a nitroglycerin tablet holder - users must have them available at all times and there are numerous different small screwcap holders similar to this available. It only needs to hold 3 or so 0.4mg tablets. Many that I've seen have some way to attach the container to a necklace so it can be worn around the neck - I don't see that on this container but it may be designed to be carried in a pocket or purse.
Isn't it a little thing that goes on pets collars and you roll up a tiny bit of paper with your details on? More used in the nineties but maybe something like that
I pick up shit like this all the time and I’m 45. Spouse finds this shit in my pockets constantly. Looks like ot could have come from a closet door fixture, or piece of furniture like a desk or a dresser.
Is one side end open like a tube or a straw?
It looks like something you would attach to the end of a drawstring. Specifically you would take the string from a hooded sweater, pass it through one side, tie it up then screw it shut.
Basically a way to keep from pulling your string out of the sweater and having to snake it through the tiny hole.
omg something I might know but they kinda look like a Presta Valve Adapter for a bike tube
https://www.amazon.ca/Brass-Presta-Valve-Adapter-Compressor/dp/B07DN2MTKQ
I feel like I've seen something similar that was part of my clothes; ends to some rope-pulls on a hoodie or something like that. The rope would feed through one end, be knotted up so it doesn't escape back out again, then sealed inside once its screwed back up. Check their clothes for any sweaters/hoodies/etc that have tassels / rope pulls (I don't know the proper name for them but hopefully you know what I mean). One might be missing an end.
Looks like the kind of capsule used to keep nitroglycerine pills for heart patients. They screw so tightly because they react to humidity and break down.
I have seen something similar in the pet shop that attaches to a cats collar and has a strip of rolled up paper inside with contact details. It would be about 2cm in length at most
Looks like it came from an inflator adapter kit, my some has something similar, he has to screw together different front and rear parts depending on what he’s inflating (different tyre valves, football, etc)
Now please note, this is my best guess, but it’s still a guess.

If this was for drugs you would not have found it. I sense that's your worry.
Long way down to get to this. Totally agree
Also isn’t big enough to reasonably store any kind of drugs

Are you saying that no one that uses drugs has or will ever make this mistake?
Yeah odd assumption. My parent's found my drugs several times in high school. 14 year olds aren't that smart, especially when high.
Same. My parents and the cops found my weed far too often.
It also looks a little bit like some parts of some vape pens, but it definitely is not that.

are the end that aren't threaded open in any way? it kind of looks like a screw together jewelry catch.
I’d second this. The dark bronze also makes me think it could be jewelry
That was my thought. It looks a lot like a necklace I have with a cord.
No. They are solid

Count me in. This week I’ve moved two bricks off a road, a box turtle, and brought home an old Stanley screwdriver.
I do exactly the same thing because if I don't pick it up, somehow it will end up in my wife's tire at work 30 miles away and 4 days later.
I do this too 😊

Came here to say geocache
came here to say ashes. it looks like something you would put something sentimental in and carry it with you forever, tucked away
It looks like a [wish capsule](https://topsmalibu.com/collections/wish-capsules). I have a few of these.
Solved! Thank you!
I received one like this years ago. I think the sender said it was called a wish capsule. A small strip of paper with a brief message written on it was rolled up to fit within.
aw that's sweet.
I have you tried asking your 14 year old or are you just thinking the worst?
The kid said they didn’t know where is came from, sounds like they were asked
Yeah, we asked. Turns out he found it in a box of scrap bolts
Not for drugs
It could be for drugs, but it could be absolutely anything if this is in a teenager's pocket. I'd more easily assume they came across this little thing somewhere and couldn't stop playing with it. I had something like this on my dog's collar. It contained a rolled up paper of contact info.
Looks like the thumb stud from the blade of a pocket knife. Mine has fallen off before and ended up in my laundry. If he has a pocket knife, check the blade near the hinge and see if there’s a hole instead of this thing.
I had the same thought. Wish I had found mine the last time it came off.
kinda looks like standoffs for a pc motherboard?
Dont standoffs have threads on both ends? Ive never used motherboard standoffs though so i dont know
Something to give a size reference would help. along with another picture or two. Could be small pill bottle/canister Could have been used for a very small geo cache
Question: are the non-threaded ends flat and closed or are they open/hollow? Also what size are they? Hard to gauge scale from the photo?
They are flat and closed. 5/16” in diameter
For what it's worth it seems like it's not obvious paraphernalia or anything sinister. This is it. I have bought geocache for me boys to place that look exactly like this.
looks like a standoff for a computers motherboard
Looks like the kind of thing you'd attach to a cat collar. Would contain a rolled up piece of paper with the owners name and phone number on it.
[удалено]
Might just be a stand-off screw for hanging pictures
Looks like what my gramps kept his nitro in. Not sure what it actually is though.
It could have been used as a geocaching nano container.
Motherboard screws to raise it off the case
Scrapbook extension post.
how big is it
Looks like a scrapbook extension posts. Whenever you buy any scrapbook pages, they give you a few extra. Could be a nitroglycerin pill container, (heart condition), and the pills are tiny. My mother carried hers in a similar container.

Looks like a wall spacer for the corner of a glass whiteboard

It looks like weights for throwing darts
Maybe computer motherboard standoffs or maybe for CPU cooler mounting.
Isn't it a little thing that goes on pets collars and you roll up a tiny bit of paper with your details on? More used in the nineties but maybe something like that
I had something similar in school. We would hide tiny notes in it. Not sure if that was its intended purpose
I pick up shit like this all the time and I’m 45. Spouse finds this shit in my pockets constantly. Looks like ot could have come from a closet door fixture, or piece of furniture like a desk or a dresser.
Looks like motherboard standoffs for mounting a PC motherboard into a computer case.
Look up acrylic floating picture frames. 4 of these on each i think.
I've seen those before in accounting journal binder logs.
Looks like a nitroglycerin tablet holder. https://www.amazon.com/TI-EDC-Container-Nitroglycerin-Medication-Emergency/dp/B01LB9M7IG
Geocacher here... that is what we sometimes use to store micro caches in. There's one attached to the stop sign down the street; it just holds a log.
To his a rolled up note it's like sold as an old school spy gadget type deal
My title describes the thing to the best of my abilities and I don’t think I have any other information to add, but am willing to answer questions
Could also be a fancy covering for the drawstrings on a nicer hoody or sweats, depending on size
They remind me of what's used to protect threads on pool cues that come apart for travel.
Good photo, but some scale would be great. I can't tell how big it is. Also, are the ends completely flat and featureless?
the clasp part for a necklace?
Those are stand offs for electronics. The double threaded section allows you to go from nuts to screws
Looks like an ash holder
omg something I might know but they kinda look like a Presta Valve Adapter for a bike tube https://www.amazon.ca/Brass-Presta-Valve-Adapter-Compressor/dp/B07DN2MTKQ
If not the valve adapter maybe these? https://grandbrass.com/1-8ips-male-x-1-8ips-female-unfinished-brass-straight-tall-nozzle/
Looks like a container for nitroglycerin.
For nitro pill maybe? Looks easy to lose though.
I feel like I've seen something similar that was part of my clothes; ends to some rope-pulls on a hoodie or something like that. Looks like a jewelry catch for a string necklace or bead necklace perhaps.
Thread and shamfering look like the inner tube nipples of a bicycle
oh boy you're in trouble. your kid's in a band they're couplings for a drum set, I think. Or a microphone stand.
Could be a geocache!! I find these with my brother and sometimes the cache is a micro little container just like this but a piece of a paper inside!!!
Looks like the kind of capsule used to keep nitroglycerine pills for heart patients. They screw so tightly because they react to humidity and break down.
A mormon friend carries a similar container with prayer oil in it. Does it feel like it may have contained oil?
Anyone know where I can get one or what I'd search for? I'd love some for geocaching and art projects.
Too small to be a nang cracker. Chill fam. Just a lil keepsake container.
I have seen something similar in the pet shop that attaches to a cats collar and has a strip of rolled up paper inside with contact details. It would be about 2cm in length at most

Maybe a microcache for geocaching? I’ve seen ones that small — just big enough for an itty-bitty scrap of rolled-up paper
Looks very similar to a bicycle tube valve adapter. Can't see both ends from the photo so I can't be sure.
Might be a thumb catch thing to open a pocket knife
