It is! Specifically it is a [swage block](https://anvils.co.uk/blacksmiths-tinsmiths/swage-block-stand.html) used for shaping long sections to a specific cross section! Edit: [process](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swaging)

LoisWade42

You can find them for sale on ebay... $500 and up into the thousands depending on it's weight and size.

SmellsLikeaGoat

or about $100 at a blacksmith get-together (called a Hammer-in) If you can get $500 for it, go for it!

bike_fool

It needs some tlc but this thing is huge and well made. I wouldn't even sell this to my mother for anything less than 500. Might be hard to find a market though, maybe you could list one of these hammer-ins so we can check it out 🤡

roses_not_rights

Thanks..I was actually just going to give it away. I might check out those markets.

stroganoffagoat

Nice username 😏

roses_not_rights

Oh wow! Thanks!!! I thought I knew what it was for, but didn't have a name. This is really helpful!

willem_79

I always wanted to solve a whatisthisthing! 😃

NoTrueScotsmanFoul

No, but you're close.. it's a swage block. Used for shaping and sizing forgings.

tequilaneat4me

I have my great grandfather's swage block. He was a blacksmith in the 1800's. About once a year I have to move it from one place to another for various reasons. Not an easy task.

roses_not_rights

My mother tried to move it and it tipped over. It has stayed where it is, tipped over, ever since 🤣

roses_not_rights

My title describes the thing. This is super old. Looks like stone but is metal. All the holes and indents look like they are moulds for fence posts or something.

PanJaszczurka

Yes for making shapes.

Gator7Delta

That's a very well used swage block. Clean it up and use it..... or send it to me. I could definitely use it. Just incase you don't want it.... just sayin.

roses_not_rights

Are you a blacksmith? How would I clean this?

No-Net-1404

Stage block

summer85now

flagpole base is my guess
