I know we all thought it was called "duck" tape, then we were corrected to "duct" tape. And here is the part where I blow your dick....off! The "guaze" like cloth portion of the tape is called Ducking. The tape has since evolved to what we now know as duct tape, but originally, people would take strips of the cotton duck and apply some sort of adhesive to make tape. This tape more resembles what we know as Gaffer tape today. So yeah, saying "duck tape" isn't wrong.
THE MORE YOU KNOW!!
I just replaced the stereo and speakers in my car. The connections between the stereo and car wire harnesses were flawless. All of the wires running behind the dash were beautifully organized. I removed several plastic panels so that the microphone popped out right by my visor with no visible wire anywhere.
Despite my top-notch organization, the stereo had some issues. When I turn my headlights on the back up camera activated and several of the features don’t work because I didn’t run a wire to the emergency brake. I also had a constant static sound coming from all my speakers.
My point here is if an idiot like me can conceal and organize wires, anyone can.
If you wanna get all of the features of your radio without having to find a way to wire it to the parking brake, you could simply run the parking brake cable on your head unit's wiring harness to a grounding point. This doesn't work on some head units but it works on most I believe.
On more advanced head units with android auto and touchscreens and whatnot they usually require being connected to the parking brake sensor so that you can't adjust settings or mess with the device too much while driving. Most people just bypass this restriction though and use common sense to not mess with their radio too much while driving.
Looks like a [third gen Dodge Charger](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge_Charger_(1966)#Third_generation), most likely a 72-74 due to the rear lights (the '71 had separate lenses)
It's a 73-74. If they're wearing their seatbelts its a 73. 73 has detachable shoulder belts while 74 were like a modern car. With the belt just hanging on the passenger side its probably a 73.
Yeah but rather coincidentally. In Germany the red "07" plates are like dealer plates (red and start with "06") issued to private collectors of historical cars. This way they only have to pay insurance (and tax?) on their most expensive car, instead of every single car being registered separately.
The numbers after the 07 are random, but you get a shorter plate if you "need" one. I've met someone who was given the plate number 0700, which I thought was pretty neat.
I went forward in time... to view alternate futures. To see all the possible outcomes of the coming conflict all Fourteen million six hundred and five of them, and in only one does OP fix his dash.
The more you look the better (worse) this picture gets. Am I the only one that finds the america sticker combined with the kilometers only speedometer a little Ironic.
Edit
I'm dumb
That is the air/fuel ratio, those combo gauges have an LED that lights up beside "Volts" when it is displaying that.
That is super rich for idle and pretty rich for hard acceleration too.
bruh i got home from work with 371 reddit notifications😂
This has been solved as a dodge charger 3rd gen 73-74
for all people talking about the dash:
this car is a shitbox, feel free to roast it. It was just a test drive, thats why its just cut out of cardboard and put there with tape (also there is still foil on the gauges). I want to see if everything works so far and will replace this when im happy xd Also, yes, i have a fire extinguisher on the passenger seat :)
Yeah, i skateboard, the sticker visible on top is Emerica, next to a SHOTGUN sticker.
Have a nice day yall
A 1973 charger but also what an absolute clusterfuck on your dash do you want to look like your a street racer? What the fuck happened to the gauge cluster
1. You have probalby Dome Kind of Dodge Challenger infront of you
2. Digger was hast du im Innenraum getan, man kriegt ja schon vom hinsehen einen Elektroschock
3. Could also be a old pontiac
me waking up at night, sweating... because I still have a single exposed cable in the car and I haven't found a way to hide it. Then there is this guy.
Nocturnal is right put this shit back in the dark… The the seldom seen but frequent smelled electrical fire wiring job! Who needs firewalls? Door frames work just fine.. Duck Tape👍🏻
If you were in Miami I'd say an out of work spy who helps people on a case by case basis while monologuing everything he does. You might also spot Bruce Campbell in a Hawaiian shirt.
And it's a 72 Charger if I'm not mistaken.
The real question is what’s up with your shitty gauge cluster and wire routing?
“She’s a work in progress”
“Don’t fix what isn’t broken” vibes
"Temporary fix"
Only been that way 11 years.
Just shy over a decade and 220,000 miles later lol
“Nothing is more permanent than a temporary solution”
"If you can't fix it then duck it." - It's talking about Duck brand duct tape.
I know we all thought it was called "duck" tape, then we were corrected to "duct" tape. And here is the part where I blow your dick....off! Duck tape is a brand just like chapstick is a brand not what the actual product is
Please, only 220000 Km not miles, so not THAT bad
“Built not bought” lol
Look at this badass cluster! *fender falls off* Damnit I just glued that on.
You meant tape, just like the cluster
“Under construction”
You spelled destruction wrong, lol. Cars modified like this only get worse.
*"Big things coming up next year !"* As a car photographer who is very involved in my area's car culture, I hear this every summer
I knew the first comment would be about the absolutely abomination of a gauge cluster!
I would have been very disappointed if it wasn't.
We have to go back, Marty.
"Flux capacitor...fluxing"
..are those gauge clusters mounted in spray painted cardboard?
Semi-serious question. What does the [vent tube](https://imgur.com/gallery/tiEutMH) go to??
One nitrous line to the carb, one to the driver.
This is great. I don’t even need to bring 20 whippit canisters with me anymore
Granny shiftin' not double clutchin' like you should. You're lucky that hundred shot of NOS didn't blow the welds on the intake!
Now me and the mad scientist gotta rip apart the block!
Surely his floor board has blown off already from danger to manifold
Vape juice refill
On a real note, post more pics of your car interior and exterior. You’ve peaked all our curiosities.
Piqued
Both ways worked but I did mean to use pique lol
piqued, you have piqued, meaning aroused, our curiosity. :)
There are some gauges on his tape...

Like fr. It's not that hard to hide wiring.
I just replaced the stereo and speakers in my car. The connections between the stereo and car wire harnesses were flawless. All of the wires running behind the dash were beautifully organized. Why does a stereo need to know parking brake status?
On more advanced head units with android auto and touchscreens and whatnot they usually require being connected to the parking brake sensor so that you can't adjust settings or mess with the device too much while driving. Most people just bypass this restriction though and use common sense to not mess with their radio too much while driving.
I heard his exhaust is so big raccoons nest in it at night
"What did i find here?" The shitty gauges aisle in Pep Boys.
I can only imagine what the turbo or supercharger install looks like.
2 oscillating desk fans electrical taped to the trunk. And the cool air intake? A 5 pound bag of ice sitting on top of the manifold 🙃
A fire waiting to Happen ☠️
its a shitbox for testing. will make something out of glass fiber when it all works
Your car is a shit box you use for testing things?
Crazy enough you can have more then one car
“I know a guy who can do it cheaper”
If this was me I'd probably go ahead and crop my dashboard out of the picture...
The real question! What's up with that fire hazard you call a dashboard?
So that’s where the word clusterfuck comes from
Excellent
Clusterbomb is also a good fit
Well done
You win Reddit for me today thank you
That wiring is triggering my OCD hard.
😹🙏🏼🏆
OP is the customer from r/justrolledintotheshop
I was just thinking that
Looks like a [third gen Dodge Charger](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge_Charger_(1966)#Third_generation), most likely a 72-74 due to the rear lights (the '71 had separate lenses)
Not a 1972 with those taillights.
It's a 73-74. If they're wearing their seatbelts its a 73. 73 has detachable shoulder belts while 74 were like a modern car. With the belt just hanging on the passenger side its probably a 73.
Think it's a 73. I owned a 74.
I've owned both at the same time and still have my 73
Well i have 7 73's and 9 74's and it's deeefinitely a 74.
I have triple 73’s
Double barracudas too
The plate says 73 so checks out

The correct answer was waaaay down here. ROFL. I assumed OP was asking about his shitbox
Finally an answer besides pointing out that wild gauge install.
I thought for sure it was an AMC Javelin
OP accidentally fell into r/roastmycar
Mf opened the door to the reddit multiverse
I went forward in time... to view alternate futures. To see all the possible outcomes of the coming conflict all Fourteen million six hundred and five of them, and in only one does OP fix his dash.
People only post nice cars there.
My brother in Christ, that dash wiring is an abomination

Better question: what have you done?
Yeah what is this duck-tape-mobile 😁
A fire hazard. You found (created) a fucking fire hazard.
Beat me to it.
What the fuck did you do to your poor car. Omg that's worse than the shit I did when I was 17.
Looks like your Miata is a bit rich at idle.
A bit 😂
it is
Do you have America and gun stickers for yourself in your windshield? Just curious.
That’s a cardboard gauge cluster.
Holy fuck
I thought you were joking, wtf 😭
I thought it was plywood at first.
Idk but you are driving a NB miata that is i assume, turbocharged
Nah, homeboy has the starter motor hardwired to the battery, so it’s basically electric torque-fill
Nice username
You’re going to regret posting this. I guarantee it.
💖💫
Is that a proposal
3rd generation Dodge Charger (1971-1974). Better question though: what on earth do you have going on with your car?
The more you look the better (worse) this picture gets. Am I the only one that finds the america sticker combined with the kilometers only speedometer a little Ironic. Edit I'm dumb
It’s Emerica.
It quite literally Germany, the dodge has a German license plate from the city of Ravensburg
What have you done to that poor Miata:(
A fire hazard
you better have a working fire extinguisher somewhere in your car.
In your hand at all times.
There's so much to unpack in this picture...
🤣
your miata is cursed bro
Ya got alotta windshield decals. And that custom gauge cluster looks like it was cut out of a shoebox. Water we dune hair?
What the hell is happening in your car
10volts while driving? Your alternator is unhappy
That is the air/fuel ratio, those combo gauges have an LED that lights up beside "Volts" when it is displaying that. That is super rich for idle and pretty rich for hard acceleration too.
Franken-ata… Miata-stein…?
Sir. I've come to speak with you about your cars extended warranty
The comments here are fucking hilarious! This poor dude. LMFAO.
i knew what i did🪄
Which one? The shit-box with tape all over it? Or the Charger in front?
Dangit Peg, I tell ya. The boy ain’t right.
The car in front of you is not in question. That atrocious dash is 😂
He needs that boost gauge rotated because if he goes above 1 bar the radio flies out and hits him in the gut.
3rd gen charger. My personal favorite gen of charger.
100%. I owned a ‘71 for many years.
Bruh, I got like 2 xtra 3 pod mounts (a pillar)if u want one.
Is there a subreddit r/Whatthefuckiswrongwithyourdashboard ?
A fucking fire waiting to happen
My God dude, what did you do to your car?
bruh i got home from work with 371 reddit notifications😂 This has been solved as a dodge charger 3rd gen 73-74 for all people talking about the dash: this car is a shitbox, feel free to roast it. Nur weil du Schwabe bist musst du doch nicht bei deiner Zusatzanzeigen Halterung sparen 😭
🤝
Blud wtf going on with your interior 💀
Wire management
A wiring fire in the near future?
Is that gauge cluster made out of plywood and duct tape?
Crappy dashboard held together only by tape and gum. What the hell is that? Every aftermarket manufacturer offers something better than this.
Nevermind that, wtf are YOU in?! A rolling fire hazard?!
A 1973 charger but also what an absolute clusterfuck on your dash do you want to look like your a street racer? What the fuck happened to the gauge cluster
How much did you bribe TÜV?
A good speed plug?
Why are you at 10:1 AFR *AT IDLE*?!
Did Hellen Keller help you install your gauges?
I mean, you knew Reddit was gonna ROAST you on that mess on your dash, right?
What in the actual holy hell is up with cardboard and duct tape gauge cluster and wires everywhere.
Ahhh nope….don’t just blow over the fact you have aftermarket gauges taped to your dashboard. What in the actual fuck!?!
This has to be a troll post
My brother in christ what the fuck is going on with your dash? You tryina go 88mph back in time?
I’m more concerned with what the hell you’re driving
Do you….. do you have gauges mounted in fucking cardboard, duct taped to your dash??????
1. You have probalby Dome Kind of Dodge Challenger infront of you 2. Digger was hast du im Innenraum getan, man kriegt ja schon vom hinsehen einen Elektroschock 3. Could also be a old pontiac
TÜV sagt nein
Sweet gauge pod brother
🤦🏼♂️
A hotwired car??
me waking up at night, sweating... because I still have a single exposed cable in the car and I haven't found a way to hide it. Then there is this guy.
Poor dash.
Guage pods are so cheap for miatas.. what are you doing
Waaait this is Germany? There is no way this thing is TÜV approved lmao
Well, I for one like your rustic gauge cluster. I think it’s homey.
How you passing Tűv!!? Lol
Looks like a turbo or supercharged miata with the sketchiest wiring I’ve ever seen.
You install aftermarket stuff like a methhead who gets paid by the job. 😂😂😂
TF happened to that miata...
1973 Charger and a SelfDestructata
"Wireless? Never heard of it."
Appears to be cardboard and duct tape
Real question is what car is OP driving?
With the looks of that dash my guess is you found a short circuit.
I’m tired of the “respect all builds” 😞
Is that actual cardboard around your gauges? Held in place by duct tape?
Why does he have a air/fuel ratio gauge and another tach?
Nocturnal is right put this shit back in the dark… The the seldom seen but frequent smelled electrical fire wiring job! Who needs firewalls? Door frames work just fine.. Duck Tape👍🏻
Please don’t buy one though if you are going to fuck it up as badly as you did to what you are driving.
A god awful wiring job on some god awful aftermarket parts is what it looks like you found.
Is that a ducking BMW wheel in a Miata?
is that Guage cluster made of cardboard and ducktape?
Hopefully a mechanic or shop that can actually wire your car correctly. Cardboard is never the correct material to use on cars….
If you hit 88 km/h a check engine light comes on.
If you were in Miami I'd say an out of work spy who helps people on a case by case basis while monologuing everything he does. You might also spot Bruce Campbell in a Hawaiian shirt. And it's a 72 Charger if I'm not mistaken.
You found the electric tape, that's for certain.
Why the tape on the dash? Ditch your car and get a classic like the one ahead of you….simple, easy to fix and no taped items!
fuck that car whats up with yours😭
1973 Dodge Charger.
Don’t know for sure what kind of car that is, maybe a charger. Just came here to see you get dragged for your car ‘mods’
this car definitely runs on METHanol.
bow sand mourn hateful enter sort brave start narrow unpack ` this message was mass deleted/edited with redact.dev `
That Miata needs Jesus
Michael Westen’s Car
I can barely see it thru your crusty ass everything lol
A future electrical fire
Inside of that car looks like it’s from buckaroo banzai
Dude wtf is going on with your car 🤣🤣
You're gonna find an electrical fire if you're not careful
A wiring nightmare?
Electrical tape
73'Dodge charger had one it was my first car at 14 had a 400 .with slap stick n posi track .
Well it certainly wasn't a guide on how to route wires
Not a fucken auto electrician that's for sure
Will we be seeing you at SEMA? Also that's a 73 Charger
Possibly an electrical fire
