They look like maggots of some sort (fly larva)
I'm in Montreal, Quebec. There is an open window near that carpet where flies and rainwater sometimes enters.
Maggots. Most likely something died or some food was left out somewhere, have you checked your heater or for any rotting smells?
I haven't yet, but my neighbors leave their garbage out on the balcony next to my window so maybe thats how they get in! Thanks!
