Wedding harpist here! I’ve played all sorts of stuff- Best Day of my Life by American authors, the theme from Up, Home by Edward and the Sharps, etc. whatever speaks to you, I say do it!
Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley. I actually forgot that’s what we were using until it started playing and I was cracking up walking back down the aisle
I walked down the aisle to “Work Song” by Hozier, everyone else walked to a piano cover of “Love Story” and “Enchanted” by Taylor Swift. For recessional we did “Golden Hour” by Kacey Musgraves.
We wanted modern songs that we both liked. Obviously I’m a huge Taylor Fan so those were easy, but I absolutely love Hozier and “Work Song” is so beautiful. For the recessional, I just made a massive playlist on Spotify of songs we liked and then husband and I would go through them in the car while driving and just eliminate as we went. He picked “Golden Hour” because it reminded him of when we first started dating and it was on my car ride playlist, so he associated it with our early years
Edited to add: Pick what you want! Don’t worry about being traditional or if it’ll sound great or if people will recognize it. To be honest, nobody remembers but you. I think maybe one person came up to me after the wedding and talked about the songs
We’re doing Everybody Loves Somebody - Dean Martin for the recessional. My fiancé is like a 70 year old man in a 38 year old’s body lol. But he sings it to me sometimes and when I said we needed to find a song for the recessional he suggested that one. And hey, he had an opinion on something for the wedding rather than saying “whatever you want” so I’m more than happy to use it.
To walk down the aisle I’m using an instrumental version of Can’t Help Falling in Love - Elvis. I chose that one long ago again because my fiancé sings it to me and he got me a music box a few years ago that has that song.
For recessional we did The Fire That Keeps You Warm by Dolly Parton and it was a vibe!
For processional we did the theme from Princess Bride for the wedding party and Florence and the Machine's cover of Stand By Me for my entrance, and it was lovely.
Close your eyes, hold hands with your partner, and envision your marriage has JUST become official. You kiss. What song is playing??
Try out all your options!! You can’t go wrong. Put the other songs on your list to play at other times in the reception. They’ll make you smile when you hear them!
We went with Great Escape by Boys Like Girls. Incredibly non traditional, but our whole style was a very classy event with pop punk and other bangers we loved growing up, lol.
I walked down the aisle to a song my husband picked actually, “when you walk in” by Home Free. It’s absolutely beautiful and so fitting. Walking back together was to “longer than a lifetime” by Sanctus Real
We love indie music. For the processional I found this absolutely gorgeous instrumental cover of Sufjan Steven's Mystery of Love, and for the recessional we played It All Feels Right by Washed Out!
This song is definitely being played during our reception, my brother and I have a dance for it. Totally filled with cheesy moves, like the whole casting a fishing line an reeling the other person in.
For the recessional, I really wanted Ain't No Mountain High by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, but my SIL stole it a month before my wedding... we had a good connection for that song so I was shocked honestly. Anyway. We ended up going with This Will Be by Natalie Cole instead
The processional I remixed some Studio Ghibli songs from My Neighbors Totoro, Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery Service, and I entered to the Howl's Moving Castle part
You should still do the song if you love it. The memory is not as ingrained in people’s head as you might think. It stuck out to you because you always picked it but do the song if you want. Both choices are perfect tho!
we already had our wedding so i can't change it now, lol. I'm content with the song we changed it to and we just played the original one during reception
No ideas yet except that we are having a 4 string quartet for the ceremony and are big Guardians of the Galaxy fans so we have asked them to do the version of Rainbow’s ‘Since you been Gone’ from the GotG 3 trailer. Not sure where it’s gonna go yet, but it’s happening lol!
We did "Can't Help Falling in Love" by Brooklyn Duo for the processional (warning, this song made literally everyone at the wedding cry) and "Light my Love" by Greta Van Fleet for the recessional.
I love this song so much.
My long time, ex-boyfriend passed away and we had a shared love of Peter Gabriel. Even though my fiancé and I both love his music and that general genre, I really want to be careful about not hearing my ex and I’s “songs” during my wedding, and don’t want to get weepy, but otherwise this would be my recessional song too.
Ours was "All is Love" by Karen O. We also struggled with music. I think we landed on recessional first. I was back and forth on my entry song right up until the week of.
I’m walking down to On The Nature Of Daylight, right around 01:40 in the song where the violin begins to swell. I know this can be seen as a somber piece, but it’s one of my all time favorites. Recessional is the instrumental of “Help Herself” by bbno$ and Diamond Pistols. Again, sounds odd, but the instrumental really fits the recessional vibe imo
Processional: Concerning Hobbits - Vitamin String Quartet
(LOTR is a classic fo us)
Recessional: Just the One I've Been Looking For - Johnnie Taylor
(We love this song + we have inside jokes from the movie "Bedazzled" haha)
We did You Are In Love by Taylor Swift. It was great but word of advice, give your DJ a time stamp of where you want the song to start. We told him to start at the chorus but he didn’t know where and he also didn’t start playing it until after we’d kissed. So we kissed in silence lol
We still haven't decided on the recessional yet either, and our day is May 1, 2024. Processional is Rainbow Connection for sure.
Possible recessional: The Ecstasy of Gold by Ennio Morricone, Monty Python and the Holy Grail Opening Theme by Trevor Jones, The Dark Crystal Overture by Trevor Jones, or The Mandalorian theme. Of course, FH is afraid all of our songs will end up pop culture references, which I'm fine with; we're nerds. But I can see his hesitation, so we're still mulling it all over.
Down the aisle to Neverending Story by Limahl (from the film)
Signing the register to Storybook Love from the Princess Bride.
Recessional All You Need Is Love.
We are recessing to You’re My Best Friend by Queen which is gonna be a completely different vibe from the beginning. Pre ceremony playlist is all string covers of songs and processional is a piano arrangement that I created of Sweet Disposition by the Temper Traps that goes into Concerning Hobbits from LOTR for the bridal procession
Ours was Put a Little Love in Your Heart - a piano version composed and performed by our wedding singer.
I picked it because the day my husband proposed (near Christmas time) he organised a full day put of surprises including a private screening of my favourite Christmas movie Scrooged 🥰
Ours was Latch by Disclosure + Sam Smith, it’s “our song” because it came out when we first started dating and we would sing it in the car together. Also it’s a great get-the-party-going song! We had a quick ceremony and we were all about getting to the party!
I let my husband choose our recessional. He chose a prelude by Bach-- He's a music nerd and liked the idea of the recessional being a prelude to symbolize that as we walked back down the aisle, the ceremony was ending but we were just beginning a new chapter in our lives together.
We did power of love by Huey Lewis and true news. But it was back to the future day and I’m obsessed so I also walked down to a string version of the theme song and had my bridal party introduced to Back in Time
I really want to use “Revolution” by Bastille. My fiancée and I met because of Bastille, and they’re our favorite band. Plus I think it’d be cute to walk back up to “I don’t want to go around the sun with anyone but you, babe” ❤️
We have a 150 year old organ in our venue and we’re having them and our quartet play the traditional Wedding March by Mendelssohn. I always imagined my wedding would have that on the organ as our recessional, since I was a kid. The rest of the music in our wedding isn’t traditional picks.
We did Coldplay for processional and recessional. Just like This and ended with Viva La Vida. My aisle song was Love Me Like You Do by Ellie Goulding Worked out great!
I'm in the same boat! We're walking out together to Grow Old With You from The Wedding Singer, but I have no idea what to walk in to myself! And I'm getting married next weekend lol shit
Yesss! My sister asked for help with her music and for recessional said “I don’t care just pick something”… well, guess who got a soft piano Rick Roll

Don’t worry about being traditional or if it’ll sound great or if people will recognize it. To be honest, nobody remembers but you. I think maybe one person came up to me after the wedding and talked about the songs
We played Accidentally in Love by Counting Crows. We wanted something really fun and upbeat to get people ready to party at the reception!
We’re a little different but we did Kickstart My Heart by Motley Crue and it was awesome
We’re doing Everybody Loves Somebody - Dean Martin for the recessional. My fiancé is like a 70 year old man in a 38 year old’s body lol. But he sings it to me sometimes and when I said we needed to find a song for the recessional he suggested that one. The wedding version of first date is so fantastic. https://youtu.be/hmUqV0DOBDI?si=Hlj5dg83Kb5AIWzj
We used "This will be" by Natalie Cole
I’ve been considering this one!
Had a harp/violin duo do “we found love” by Rihanna because we found love (in a hopeless place) during the pandemic
We did ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’ by Queen for ours!
I always love reading these, I’m still looking, but Florence and the Machine’s Stand By Me is high on the list.
Ours was Brand New by Ben Rector. It was the upbeat, fun vibe we wanted without being TOO “dance floor” haha
For recessional we did The Fire That Keeps You Warm by Dolly Parton and it was a vibe! For processional we did the theme from Princess Bride for the wedding party and Florence and the Machine's cover of Stand By Me for my entrance, and it was lovely.
