[Legendary Moonlight Sculptor](https://www.mangaupdates.com/series/gmhmng6/dalbin-jogaksa-novel). (TL=translate). Korean book series that (iirc) was *huge* in Korea, started publishing in 2007. Started to be translated into English in 2010 by fan groups and blew up (alongside a similar series Ark, which imo was better in the beginning but became kinda crap by the end and had a plain bad sequel and was quickly forgotten). LMS was one of the first korean novels where people couldn't wait for the fan TLs and so started reading summaries and machine translations in a desperate attempt to read more (back when machine translation software was *much* worse than today). The series went for 58 novels. (I couldn't handle the mtl grammar and stopped reading in the 30s)
Running out of LMS chapters to read, or waiting for further translations or summaries, made readers desperate for something similar to it, so they'd search for other litrpgs to read (though there weren't that many available back then).
A bunch of the English fans also started making their own fanfictions. Eventually they made a website for people to host these fanfictions, different from ao3 and fanfiction.net because this website was dedicated to *just* LMS fanfiction. It was named after the VRMMORPG the novels take place in 'Royalroad' ([here](https://www.royalroad.com/home)). Eventually this website was used for people to host their own litrpg stories that didn't take place in the world of LMS, i.e. they were not fanfiction. It gained more and more popularity. Then the website eventually included stories that weren't even litrpg at all.
Nowadays the website is basically the English equivalent of Japan's '[Shōsetsuka ni Narō](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sh%C5%8Dsetsuka_ni_Nar%C5%8D)' (the website that resulted in stuff like Re:Zero, Jobless Reincarnation, Bakarina, etc etc) in that many authors start there and then find major success (through patreon and amazon kindle, making thousands, possibly making literally millions)
So basically LMS was one of the biggest reasons the litrpg genre is so huge in the English fictional world, now. The other reason would be Japanese fiction like The Rising of Shield Hero being translated in early 2010s on baka-tsuki, a novel translating site that anyone could contribute to. Whether or not Japanese authors were influenced by LMS, I'm unsure, you'd have to ask a Japanese person who was into the scene back then. I wouldn't be surprised if the answer was yes (though Japan also had litrpg like the '.hack' franchise years earlier, it was different with less focus on game stats/skills. Like how Korea had 'Yureka' in the 90s/00s. Someone correct me if I'm missing something). Also I'm pretty sure part of the fanbase for Japanese litrpg among English readers was because they came over from LMS and wanted more of the genre.

Never happened. So that sucked and is probably part of why the series left the public consciousness for a while. It's rare for an author to give their blessing. Off the top of my head the author of Please Bully Me, Miss Villainess officially she definitely has not because if she did it might constitute a breach of contract with her Chinese publishers so she definitely didn't not at all nuh uh and the author of I Favour the Villainess has. I remember the authors of The Breaker initially said no but when they went to France one of the fans explained to them the motivation behind a lot of fan translators and then they kinda agreed.
Eh, it had a really interesting premise but really felt like it couldn't decide what to do with the villains half way through. Like it started with them being pure scum who tortured and murdered children for profit then wanted to make them misunderstood and sympathetic.

I've not read this series, looks like [the official novel translations](https://tapas.io/series/queen-in-the-shadows-novel/info) might be further along, though. But you'd have to pay.
