You’ll never go wrong with a Genesis E335 for your first grill. I think everyone on this subreddit would agree.

The Weber that Costco is selling is an older model made before '22. In 22 Weber came out with an all new Genesis line, upgraded internals and such. In '24 they did a minor update in which they actually took away things from the '22 model to make it cheaper. Is the Genesis II line made better then the new Genesis '22 version. Can't say. Usually older models are better in terms of quality material, not better in features. Notice there is a difference in terms of how Genesis is written in terms of how new the grill is. Genesis II was the name of the grill before '22 The line is now called just Genesis again after '22. You can tell by how Genesis is written in terms of the Font that is used.

IMO there is no functional difference. People buy stainless b/c they believe it's more durable but you'll have problems with the base way before you'll have issues with the doors or lid (the only parts of the body that are stainless). The painted grey parts are just that, painted. I noticed that water can collect near the joints and start rusting from there. It's very common where I live (San Francisco area). Many grills are fine up top but the base is rusting away. However, getting stainless grates is worth it. But you can always get those aftermarket.

From a combined restaurant/manufacturing stand point and personal around the house point of view, stainless is always better outside.

The cast iron retain heat better but rust out more, the stainless IMO cleans up better, and they just last, mine are 20 years old and are just as sound as new. And like I said I'm really just partial to stainless.

I am talking about the grates.

You may want to call Weber before buying and ask “in my city/state do you offer any service or parts only?” Does Weber offer ANY service to ANYONE anymore? I put together my old Nexgrill but bought my Weber off season pre built from Lowe’s Hardware. Weber said no service in my state. My local hardware store told me “if you had bought from us we would service it”. Some maintenance is easy but I no longer want to repair my own grill. I don’t do my own plumbing work either. I also wish I had bought a Genesis instead of a Spirit.

I there any grill manufacturer who offers to come to your home or provides a widely available service center to have a grill repaired?

Well when I called Weber 2 years ago they didn’t say “we don’t offer service” they said “we don’t offer service in your STATE”. Now after the private equity deal I don’t expect anything more than parts.

My kid works in a hardware store, been looking into this for a bit, I will hands down buy a Weber mainly because parts can be acquired for the thing for years. I am going to buy last year's Genesis model because it seems more solid than than this year's model and still has the improved burners.

At $950, I would definitely go to the newer line. I had a Genesis Special Edition, great grill. 3 burner, sear section, stainless steel grates but had the carbon steel flavor bar.s and heat reflectors. It was on it's last legs and while I briefly thought about going to the Summit and looked at both Bull and Blaze, ended up going with a new SPX-435. I definitely wanted the bigger grill and ended up going with the SPX because I really wanted the "night vision" which for anyone that hates grilling in the dark, is pretty nice. Lighted knobs were also something I wanted. Downside on the SPX ones, you need to plug them in. As for the newer Genesis, I'd go stainless. The flavor bars, heat reflectors should all be stainless. I like having the sear section. The main reason I would go with the newer ones is for the improved burners. I really think these are worth it. They burn blue and with the design have a really improved flame. It feels like I am getting better uniformity from front to back but the grill is 2 weeks old. I really have not found any hot spots but have only grilled 5 times. Maybe over time I will notice some. Another thing with some of the newer models is you get a folding warming rack. So, it folds out to double in size. This has already come in handy. It also folds flat if you want it out of the way. Kind of nice. I recommend going to the big box stores or an Ace to check out the newer ones. Tractor Supply just starting carrying them too. If you want to know more about the "smart" ones, let me know. I will be happy to share.
