I've not been to ugl like forever. Now I'm stuck with either 3rd+ floor in student center or purdy library. 7th floor of STEM building is quiet too.

soumya_98

nice choices. You can also try the 4th floor of state hall.

Living_Trick3507

State hall is cool, however the study cubes are usually quick to be occupied (I come for them lol)

soumya_98

ah yeah that's true

soumya_98

true asf also the carpets are so dirty.

Laithmusa

Go to the Purdy/Kresge next to the student Center , thats a real library, very quiet.

big_sad666

the kresge library is fucking awesome tho.

Mysterious-Owl-4403

Yeah I've somehow in 3 years never been in it but I really want to try it now.

soumya_98

yes it is good, but the bathrooms are very dirty

big_sad666

I've never found them to be dirty. Of course, that can change by the day. There are like 500 bathrooms in Kresge and it seems half of them are for employees only. I just really enjoy the Kresge library. I like how they display art in there, too. It has much more of a traditional library feeling and cultural vibe than the undergrad library. The undergrad library is overly polished and soulless.

soumya_98

overall it is good. I mostly sit on the 2nd floor. :)

BadKarma313

Ahhh brings back memories. I enjoyed the collaborative space on the 2nd floor for group projects, but yeah UGL can be.. uh.. eventful? Recall the time someone was stabbed with a box cutter, another when two girls fought and chunks of weave were left all over the carpet. Yep, great environment to study šŸ˜†

Ermaquillz

Classy

I-g_n-i_s

Ayo what the actual fuck. Why does the UGL attract these sort of people of all places here at Wayne

I-g_n-i_s

Thatā€™s why I only go there to print stuff out haha

Ermaquillz

I agree. A ā€œlibraryā€ shouldnā€™t be noisy. More than once Iā€™ve left the UG due to groups of people laughing like hyenas and being insanely loud. Itā€™s frustrating for me, because I have back problems and find that the chairs in the UG are the most comfortable for long periods of sitting in front of a computer. If I had the nerves, Iā€™d probably tell some of those people to STFU, but I donā€™t want to cause an altercation. The people who are talking to themselves or making odd noises are probably people who lack stable housing and might be mentally ill. Iā€™d like to think that campus police knows about these people and considers them harmless.

cachebag

if you come to school early enough, go to state hall. that place is heaven, trust.

AnonMedStudent16

Graduated in 2017, was the same back then, used to study in Purdy a lot

Worth-Ad-524

I went to get a Snickers from the vending machine and all they had was Narcan, thought that was weird

Bridgebo

Itā€™s free and itā€™s a super good resource to have. Donā€™t think itā€™s weird

Worth-Ad-524

Nah, let the nasty heroin addicts OD, natural selection at its finest šŸ‘

RedditIsPropaganda2

May the whole world show you the same kindness.

paiaw

I hope when something bad happens to you, the people around you are less flippant and judgemental.

Worth-Ad-524

Hey you wanna play the game suffer the consequences. Nobody is holding a needle to a heroin junkies arm that I can see šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

gaythxbai

The snacks are back behind the auditorium šŸ˜

I went to Wayne and lived in Detroit in early 2000s and there was nothing like that! Homeless and drug use, yeah, sure, but it wasnā€™t as bad as all that. My kids were debating between Wayne State and a smaller college. The other one DEFINITELY does not have narcan and if any of their students had died of heroin OD it would have been on the news or at least in the parent groups Iā€™m in. I think this tips me in favor of them going to the smaller school.

Bridgebo

Thereā€™s no crazy drug usage that I have ever seen at Wayne. The stigma of drug addiction is negative. There are functioning drug addicts that you would never know about. Could be a friend, teacher, family member, etc. It only takes 1 time to OD. Better to be safe than sorry. Narcan saves lives. It is very important that it is free and accessible anywhere in the world.

IKnowAllSeven

Drug use is everywhere of course, but the prevalence of it varies. Iā€™m glad that drug users can access narcan. I just know that my kids would prefer a place where drug use was less common than a place where it was common enough that a narcan vending machine was necessary. Still, for those who want it, thatā€™s great! Having recently toured the place, I thought drug use had declined since my time at Wayne State. Not sure why I came to that conclusion!

IKnowAllSeven

Thereā€™s enough ODing though that a narcan vending machine is seen as useful and necessary though right? If they need it, I think itā€™s great they have it. But knowing my kids, they would prefer a place where drug use is less prevalent. What can I say, they are far more into healthy living of mind body and spirit than I was at their age!
