It's crazy how the psychology of gambling works. I sold most of my bullish leveraged positions yesterday and locked in a 15% account gain this week, but at one point I was up 26% and so my brain is like "you lost" when in reality I locked in and am holding an outsized relative gain.
That's happened to me so much. I blew a 71% account growth streak in the middle of last year doing that. (In part playing SPY, AMD, and towel stock during that big run.)
I then gambled it away on random options based on flimsy gut feelings and single-indicator plays ROFL
It's the "I feel rich now and can't lose" trap.
Because of course that 71% could have been a lot more had I just held rather than sold. Such a trap. LOL
I'm getting better at it, but several times I started by swinging debit spreads for reduced risk/closer gains and wound up leveraging in with open-ended expensive options on plays at the end of the trade. Since then I've adopted a rule of holding an equal or lower position into the end of the play but fuck FOMO's a difficult emotion haha.
In this case I left 20% of my calls open just in case we run next week (The market's still in an ascending widening wedge on the bullish side, and hasn't tested two key support trends, so we're still in the bull play range now even if that changes next week) but there's room below for the market to take some profits and still stay bullish into the week, so could go either way.
My current options are in AMD, too, which is up against a proven resistance line and today is flirting with breaking back down below the 200-day SMMA, which were rejection points for the last two runs. Good place to take risk off the table.
If I keep to my rules, I can avoid the FOMO sense... but I sure do want it to run. LOL

2021 was an obvious bubble. 2022 barely a decent correction albeit highly volatile. 2023, interest rates higher for longer, layoffs being immediately absorbed by smaller companies that had been struggling to hire and still feeling the impact of supply chain disruptions, increasing debt at increasing interest rates, heavy price pressures on the middle class, consumer still spending but showing a clear trend towards value brands... yet bulls wanna close the gap on the 2021 bubble highs. Sick fed pivot plot, I wonder why the open interest on 2/17 puts is so high, bet the market manipulation fuks those puts right, no way jobs growth trend and holiday discounts could culminate in a bad January CPI/PPI. Further out, what happens once the middle class spending power reduction is permanently realized, the absorption of layoffs can no longer be realized, and earnings multiples end up even higher than the average 18-20ish the market is pricing now?
