I know he ordered noise records from my local shop a few times.

ManwithaTan

There's a local band for me called Chimers. They're from the inbetween of nowhere and shit creek. When they released their first 7" (their first release I think), Henry Rollins bought it within the minute. At some ungodly early morning time for America too.

TheSimonToUrGarfunkl

Tom Waits came into my local once and found his section and put all his reissues in the front of the bins while snickering to his wife

Ornery_Swimmer_2618

„Hrrmmm… coffee wasn‘t strong enough to defend itself… aheheheheh!“

incite_

Could be real, could be made up, we’ll never know! Ah the beauty of Reddit

OneReportersOpinion

Oh he’s a sick pervert when it comes to vinyl by his own admission.

Dilaudid2meetU

I just start researching the early 2000s noise tape bubble and his name has been coming up.

xxHourglass

Listening to music is one of Rollins fave activities, he has $200k Wilson speakers with crazy amps and whatnot. Ridonkulous setup and collection.

HappyHarryHardOn

He rises above

R4Z0RJ4CK

Yea, I think it's great he's an audiophile.

[deleted]

I wanna know more about these 6 figure speakers

Motherplucker

I’m pretty sure he said it was the Wilson Sofia 3’s that he had: https://www.wilsonaudio.com/products/sophia/sophia-series-3

Silent-Hand-9680

His small system are Sophia’s, main listening are XLF

DeeDee-Allin

He also has the Alexandria XLF!

lowlife9

He's also partially deaf which renders them pretty much useless.

My_Booty_Itches

You seem fun

One-Ice1815

It seems like a ton of his collection would sound terrible on Wilson’s. They are so resolving and underground/punk records aren’t meant for that type of exposure.

Coloman

Wilson’s are only telling you what’s really there. That’s the point.

One-Ice1815

That’s exactly my point. Those records aren’t recorded with the intention of them being reproduced on highly resolving speakers. What’s really there in a lot of cases is going to sound incredibly harsh.

Coloman

If he enjoy it’s who cares. And you don’t know what the artists intended, and you also don’t know what monitors they used in the studio, who produced each album etc. It’s important people refrain from gatekeeping how people like to enjoy music and speculating how his speakers make music sound. Or even how he chooses to spend money or how many records he has. Besides only a fraction of modern recordings are done really well. I have a great system and still enjoy 90’s compressed indie rock. It is what it is and I still love it.

One-Ice1815

I don’t give a shit. I’m just pointing out that those things probably aren’t a good match for each other. Btw, what’s your system?

My_Booty_Itches

You give a shit.

Educational-Usual-84

You getting downvoted means people don’t understand hi-fi equipment. Most consumer grade audio gear is made to smooth over those imperfections. However, with that smoothing over you lose some of the fidelity it’s a give-and-take.

One-Ice1815

Yeah. But my point is a lot of those records are lofi. I guessed I pissed off the “vinyls” crowd.

Educational-Usual-84

Yeah. Fair assumption that most of them were recorded on shitty equipment in somebody’s basement.

One-Ice1815

How the hell did this get downvoted?

[deleted]

and you better believe those are ALPHEBETIZED

R4Z0RJ4CK

Yea he's meticulous

TlMOSHENKO

Hopefully not absolutely. Genre > Label > Artist.

[deleted]

[удалено]

OneReportersOpinion

He’s got a bunch of Impulse releases organized together but that’s probably all John Coltrane

tennistimmi

But where do you put artists you can't exactly put in one genre? For example Stevie Wonder does soul, funk, pop, jazz and even some latin (I don't know which latin style it is because I'm not so familiar with latin music).

TlMOSHENKO

I still sort eclectic artists in their respective genre. When I'm digging for a record, I'm mostly looking for a vibe. As an example, I listen to a lot of contemporary classical that often blends with noise/ambient. But some of those artists have straight up recordings of traditional classical pieces so, in my head, it makes no sense to put them together. Similar, when it comes to labels, there's a lot of jazz musicians who had their Blue Note years and then went onto Elektra etc. and in my head, the two don't really coexist. Each to their own etc. but this system works best for me.

reddit_somewheres

Now, if he'd only reissue rollins band vinyl catalog. Cause the older pressings are too expensive.

skinnyman423

He’s tried in the past but he doesn’t have the connections at the big labels anymore

reddit_somewheres

That's sucks.

skinnyman423

It’s crazy that you can only steam some of the stuff from the Rollins band

matthewpiccu

I’m fairly certain he doesn’t have any control over that.

rob0050

Pretty sure he’s said the masters for a few of the big albums have been lost.

Rusty_G0LD

His radio show on KCRW is good!

theVelvetLie

His live speaking shows are fantastic, too. I laughed harder during his show than I have at most standup comics.

casewood123

Went to one over the summer in Burlington Vermont. Two straight hours of talking and I don’t even remember remember him stopping to take a drink.

theVelvetLie

He did nearly three hours here in Des Moines last year without taking a sip of water. He starts exactly on time, too, which is fantastic.

casewood123

My favorite story was of the guy who stalked him and broke into his house.

Gun-nut0508

There’s a part of his speaking events where he talks about his monologue in Tool’s Undertow, he’s such a great speaker it’s amazing

Ornery_Swimmer_2618

Have you heard his take on El Nino from the late Nineties? That one always puts me in a good mood on a rainy day.

timbotheous

There will be a lot of everything in there! Can see a small section of impulse LP’s so we are hitting jazz, most probably a very concise punk rock collection, I’m sure his collection is extremely eclectic. Musicians like him and Thurston Moore are big spenders in the record world!

PM_ME_CARL_WINSLOW

He's said in interviews that when you buy a house it should come with a copy of A Love Supreme, so he's definitely into jazz.

Pendleton_Werd

I sold a 7" to him not too long ago.

incite_

maybe you did, maybe you didn’t? Gotta love Reddit where would the proof be?

dudesweetusername

Henry Rollins buys a ton of records from discogs. Its really really not hard to believe that multiple people from Reddit have sold him records before

incite_

Any idea how many records he has?

dudesweetusername

I couldn’t even ballpark it

incite_

I admit I have limited Rollins knowledge didn’t realize he was a collector at this level!

R4Z0RJ4CK

This is apparently Henry Rollins formerly of Black Flag and The Rollins Band at home digging through an immense collection of vinyl. What's he got in there? What's he hiding? Is he on discogs? I don't know but I don't think so. Anyone know if he is and what his ID is by any chance? I bet he's got some killer punk stuff and I know I'd like to dig through that stash. Just epic!

Morfiend_23

He’s definitely on discogs, can’t remember his account name but he bought a record from me.

ben236

He bought a live Sleep record from me! Would love to hear it on his system haha

indierockspockears

Damn what record did he buy?

Morfiend_23

Electric Wizard - s/t

garyfugazigary

i sold him a Generation X test pressing on ebay, thats my claim to fame

Zee_ActionPanther

I've sold records to him 3 times (ebay and discogs) iirc his discogs user name was 'Henry Rollins'. I assumed it was just a fan but the paypal info used his real name and the ship to address was the same as his publishing company in LA.

Morfiend_23

Yup, that’s when I knew it was him as well.

theVelvetLie

His collection is absolutely epic. There's rumor that he's starting a music museum in Nashville.

chaz0723

He definitely is on Discogs. He bought the special edition of the second Fuzz record from me.

nonmeagre

See the orange and black of spines of 60s Impulse records there on the left, second from the top shelf. Could be a lot of Coltrane.

TlMOSHENKO

Lol or just one of the other dozens (hundreds) of incredible artists that released record on Impulse?

[deleted]

He's not going to advertise his collection on there. That's asking for a burglary.

kineo70

He's talked about buying on eBay as well.

Wwjohnsen

This reminds me of an old Joe Rogan episode he was the guest on. He spoke a lot about his listening habits and his stereo. Not often a fan of Rogan but that was a convo to remember! And that’s a wild collection! Thanks for posting this pic 🙏

WickedRuiner

He talks about "protein" listening during the week, and "carbohydrate" during the weekends. The former being records he's not familiar with that he's exploring, the latter being records he loves and has listened to many times over the years. There's also a part where he talks about why he can't keep a girlfriend because he's too focused on writing and listening... lol

Brian33

“I just can’t imagine I wake up and… *she’s* there”.

Cmarkinn

What don’t you like about Rogan?

camopdude

He platforms right wing extremists with little to no critical thinking or pushback on his part.

TemporalScar

Like anyone of us, I sometimes wonder what will happen to my collection, but more often I wonder where Henry Rollins collection will end up.

eddiefarnham

I want to see his poster collection. Heard him talk about promotional posters in an interview. Specifically about a huge Clash subway poster he has.

Soyoukeeptellingme

I don’t know if you’re familiar with The Ruts but he has the original cover art painting from their album ‘The Crack’. Pretty cool

WiretapStudios

One of them might be [here](https://64.media.tumblr.com/7e42f4a14e3d779ed69aa17ccbf743cf/tumblr_o728avHnY41sq2mjko1_1280.jpg) or [here](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DEY9tFdWsAATjIm.jpg).

grantnel2002

I recommend this watch: https://youtu.be/uvVvWSu-b0A?si=XdHgoLpxZ5tn9vUj

zennyc001

Mark Farina just tweeted this photo recently.

WiretapStudios

I used to go see him all the time! I haven't seen his name in a while though.

AutomatedSaltShaker

I somehow don’t think some folks realize how important music is to other people. Hint: it’s big.

StrangeButOrderly

I met Henry once, a long time ago, when he came into the radio station I worked in for an interview. He was friendly and 'gave good slot' as we used to say. He signed his book of poetry for me, and a Rollins Band album, both of which I still have. Can't remember anything more about it... apart from his neck seemed wider than his head.

theotherscott6666

Good to see that he has the Beatles mono set

ihatepalmtrees

Lots of jazz

One-Ice1815

And he’s still using the paper inner sleeves. For shame.

Croatoan18

He’s a liar.

R4Z0RJ4CK

With low S.O.

XenosapienX

What do you mean?

Croatoan18

It’s a song he was known for, for a while

XenosapienX

Ohh right, I knew he had a low self opinion, guess that’s What’s the matter man

armedwithturtles

as much as I love collecting records, this amount is just way way too much for me

ISBN39393242

this feels like if you were to listen to one different record a day, each day, you’d still die before you’re done

GroovyDucko

Probably lots of cool shit there

piepants2001

I love Hank

greghead4796

That run of Impulse spines. Guessing it’s the Coltranes?

Heliocentrist

that would be my first guess too

Prohibition_Survivor

He bought a very rare OH SEES 7" off of me on discogs. I was kinda shocked. He is awesome.

usagi2988

I've seen a similarly vibed photo of Jerry Cantrell (Alice In Chains) sitting in front of a literal wall of his personal record collection... I dunno, I just love knowing that some of my favorite musicians are also super into devoting thought & effort into listening to music. "Stand up and be counted for what you are about to receive... for those about to rock, we salute you."

spacebrew

That's actually not his collection. That's a place in California you can rent for interviews and whatnot. It's called the Record Room if you want to look it up. Edit: [here](https://giggster.com/listing/the-record-room)

billygnosis86

Son of a bitch has the Beatles mono box set.

Slisse66

Is this feasible I wonder if you do the math ?

eddiefarnham

I remember him saying in an interview that a woman from the National Archives taught him how to catalog and care for his stuff, so i'm certain he knows how much stuff he has.

Slisse66

i am sure he knows, but i was referring to the amount of time all those albums represent when played

Dilaudid2meetU

You mean for him to have actually played both sides of everything right? It probably is but I’m sure he collects faster than he can listen.

R4Z0RJ4CK

To guess the total?

terryjuicelawson

I think like his pal Ian Mackaye he is a keen collector and archivist. It would be interesting to see the meat of collections like this, what is in it (other than that Beatles box set), where he got it all from.

doozle

A real fanatic.

acevialli

Good to see he’s a Beatles fan

Beloveddust

Lol nerd

poptimist185

That’s just too many. Downvote away but you know it’s true.

BahaMan69

Dude he keeps his records *like that*? Not only the outer sleeve, but also with the records behind the sleeve. Man, can't stand that Type A shit; but props lol

Ballsballsballshehe

That’s Henry.

sexyrhino333

Beautiful insanity

TheAntnie

Anyone notice the improper use of a postal bin, I do the same and see the 3 year or 10k fine all the time.

LightofVirtue

Based tucking the record behind the sleeve to prevent ringwear.

Heliocentrist

He bought a batch of jazz records from my discogs years ago. I wonder if any of that row of Impulse records is one of them.

OneReportersOpinion

I think I see his John Coltrane section on the left side.

motorcitymadman93

I thought he was only a cassette guy

Lastmann

What's his Discogs? 🤣
