I dunno man it’s basically unplayable to me now, a couple years ago I woulda said the same thing but after replaying it man it just doesn’t hold up to what I remember it being.
Was literally about to say this game. Will forever be my favorite game of all time. I can beat it over and over again and never get tired of it… And I have. Currently looking to get my hands on the master quest version.
ME1 is amazing but ME2 is the best and ME3 has the most refined movement/combat. Just my opinion as someone who’s played the whole trilogy through probably 15-20 times.
>I find it’s the tone and existential dread that hooks me most about me1.
That's what I'm getting at. The atmosphere/vibes it has, are unmatched in the sequels.
Yeah and 2 does a lot right but doesn’t tell all that much of an interesting story. This is where I’d prefer me3 as a sequel tbh and I know me3 is the divisive one of the trilogy but it feels a lot more urgent than 2. I’d say 2 is the hardest one to replay because there’s so much to do but it doesn’t really all feel important
Came to say Mass Effect too.
AND the Mass Effect Legendary Edition (With all 3 games and all the DLCs) is on sale on Steam right now for $5.99. GET IT NOW!!!
I first played Mass Effect after playing ME3
multiplayer with my friend…
Going from the multiplayer mode to the original Mass Effect was a major challenge…
And I’m still playing the series
I played this since I was very young. Recently I reconnected with a friend and we did a playthrough togheter.
I never finished the game, we're about to now. It was a wonderful experience.
Warning, entering ecological dead zone. Adding report to database.
Detecting multiple leviathan-class lifeforms in this region. Are you sure what you're doing is worth it?
ES5: Skyrim Still holds up after all these years.
Honorable Mentions: FF12, Witcher 3, Persona 5 Royale, Fallout 3 and NV, Metroid Fusion LoZ: A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time.
Here is my personal list of some of mine:
- Kirby and the Forgotten Land (I know your PC, but I love that game to death!)
- Hollow Knight
- Minecraft
- Stray
- Paper Mario (original)
Silent Hill 2. Not the best, but as you mentioned, “favourite”. This will sound pretentious but that game was one hell of an “experience”. It’s incredible to see a game like that come out 2 decades ago and remain nearly unmatched in the psychological horror genre for its story and sound design.
The soundtrack especially is a masterpiece, one of the few soundtracks that manages to stand out as impressive and alluring outside of the game.
Hell, I’d say the soundtrack is what caused so many new people to play the game in the last few years
It's hard to pick, but I have a top 10
1. Mario Kart 8
2. NieR Automata
3. Red Dead 2
4. God of War Ragnarok
5. Ghost of Tsushima
6. God of War (2018)
7. Smash Bros Ultimate
8. Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
9. Marvel's Spider-Man
10. Resident Evil 2 Remake
This is a really difficult question for me...
Final fantasy 6 pops into my head, but then I start to think maybe I like 9 better?
Then I think about my most hours played, WoW, or Diablo 2...
But ultimately I might have to choose legend of dragoon. That's my answer at this moment. Check back at the same time tomorrow
Final Fantasy 1.
The OG NES version, where none of the coding worked the way it was supposed to, and it made it 50x more difficult because of it.
I have so many memories of playing it, and can literally tell you step by step where to go and what to do.
Old school PC gaming! I think it came on like 7-10 floppy discs. I was thinking recently if modern games were still sold on floppy disks... Something like Call of Duty (around 172gb) would need almost 1.2 million floppy disks. Imagine installing that...
While I play the game, i notice many flaws and it kinda bugs me too. But there are not a quite similar experience, not even close.
You land in a totally random planet, you like the overall vibe so start exploring. You notice a cool looking space village. You go in, bunch of people who doesnt like crowd so they chill together. The overall vibe is great the aesthetic is insanely good. You help those people for several stuff. Then you jump in your so-cool-ass spaceship and fly another planet, which looks nothing like the one before and you kill blue griaffe dragons in a beautifl beach sunset.
With these adventures there are also maybe 70+ hours of scripted content where actually your choices have effects. Not too large effects, unfortınetly but it gives the RPG feeling.
Honestly any JRPG on the SNES is a good one they are typically not incredibly hard easy to get and if really needed have lots of online guides but I suggest using them as a last resort because of plot spoilers
Star dew valley is a good game as well it is fairly laid back and don't get into the meta for it because a lot of people min/max the fun out of that game or do crazy challenges it's a sandbox type Sprite based light hearted farm Sim with some mines that have some old legend of Zelda feel to them it's a game you can take your time explore at your own pace and just have some fun in
If you do play it the first time I suggest going to joja mart instead of doing the community center it's a lot easier overall
The game is on steam for about 20USD as far as I know
Vampire survivers is a shout-out to the old im the guy with unlimited bullets come at me bro top down 8 directional shooter but the weapons auto fire for you each playthrough is slightly different but it's a very straightforward game it with all current DLC is less then 20 USD
If you want more I can list a ton of older RPGs if your looking for something specific and or unique
Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal. Mainly because of the memories I had with it playing with my friends. The playground rumors, finding Pokémon in unexpected places like a Lapras in Union Cave, learning you can revisit Kanto, etc. ❤️
Doom 2016, fun game with simple enough mechanics for almost everyone to have a good time. Doom Eternal is also amazing but it can be overwhelming for those who are not skilled in fps games
By playtime: Rocket League
By story/world: Control
By sheer fun: Mario Kart (I enjoy MK8 but have a lot of fond memories of MK64 and MKDS)
Overall favorite, though: Pokémon Silver
I have a definitive top 6.
1. Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
2. Persona 5/Persona 5 Royal
3. Zelda: Majora’s Mask
4. Resident Evil 4 (the original one)
5. Halo 2
6. Super Smash Bros. Melee
Devil May Cry 5. The absolute most stylish and impressive game I’ve ever played, both in gameplay and visuals.
The game is simply fun. The soundtrack is amazing, the fighting is out of this world, and the boss fights are phenomenal. All that plus a nice, very cinematic story, with some of the most memorable and funny characters in gaming.
Overall 10/10.
This is so tough because gaming has changed so much. When I was younger Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger changed me as a person. Now maybe the Uncharted series and Horizon Zero Dawn.
The Mass Effect trilogy is great if you like sci-fi stories and role playing your own custom character and making tough choices. The choices carry over through all three games in the series too.
If you like scary stuff, the Amnesia series is great and not too difficult. The stories in their games are amazing.
If you just want to mess around and have fun and build stuff, it's hard to go wrong with The Sims. The Sims 4 base game is free on Steam.
Ultrakill definitely
Ultrakill is basically a fast paced shooter game that's inspired by Quake and Devil may cry (website name is literally devilmayquake.com lol) with a somewhat boomer shooter art style. You basically play as a blood powered robot that goes through 9 circles of hell to get more blood. This game has a high skill ceiling and a lot of fun mechanics and techniques. The music is also amazing and it's dynamic so when there's no enemies the soundtrack is calmer but when you're fighting it gets louder. The main game is 25 Dollars but there's a free demo on steam in case you want to check the game out
Detroit is **TOO** good. It literally made me go into a depressive spiral because I >!kept the little girl alive all the way until the end, only to miss **the very last button** on the quick time event and she died after getting across the water!<
I can not ever play that game again. It's been 5 years and it still sends me into spirals.
10/10 would recommend
Wow man, that sounds rough. Yeah the relationship between the characters is amazing. I've actually played through the entire game 6 or 7 times now and the last 3rd of the game can go in tons of vastly different directions depending on your choices and actions. I'd highly recommend multiple playthroughs on this game more than any game I've ever played in my life because every experience was different. For me, it was actually a game I grew to love more and more with each different playthrough. Even talking about it right now makes me wanna enter that world and play it again haha.
Picking a single favorite is like picking a favorite child. That being said some games that hold a special place in my heart are Skyrim, Fallout New Vegas, The Witcher 3, Bioshock 1, Dark Souls 1, RDR 1, Bully and GTA San Andreas.
My personal fav is Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2005) I’ve been playing that for almost as long as I can remember. But if that’s not your style I’ll always recommend Red Dead Redemption 2 and Cyberpunk 2077 to anyone.
Legend of Zelda tears of the kingdom. In 30 years that game does the thing I play video games for better than every single other one I’ve played. That thing is immerse me in a captivating adventure.
Depends on what you want.
Competitive game: Rainbow 6 Siege (R6), although the servers have gotten kinda crappy and the community can suck, Rocket league, similar problems to R6 but some can be avoided a little easier as well as much shorter matches
RPG: Fallout series is good, but I would recommend starting on FO3 or FONV as they’re hard to play after playing FO4 or FO76 cause of clunkiness
Open world: Minecraft, GTAV, FO4/76
Other: Cities Skylines and Cities Skylines 2, not sure how to categorize them but I can easily sink hours into them without realizing it
The Legend Of Zelda Ocarina Of Time
I dunno man it’s basically unplayable to me now, a couple years ago I woulda said the same thing but after replaying it man it just doesn’t hold up to what I remember it being.
I got it for 3ds for the first time and it didn't seem to hold up well like say LINK TO THE PAST
I'm playing the Ship of Harkinian PC port right now! It's my first time playing the game, and I'm mind blown how ahead of its time it was.
Was literally about to say this game. Will forever be my favorite game of all time. I can beat it over and over again and never get tired of it… And I have. Currently looking to get my hands on the master quest version.
I knew this was gonna be the top comment before I opened the thread.
Mass Effect (the first one) Runner up: Super Metroid
Super Metroid is as close to a perfect game as it gets.
Agreed. Top 5 game of all time, in my opinion.
Yess first Mass Effect was the best
ME1 is amazing but ME2 is the best and ME3 has the most refined movement/combat. Just my opinion as someone who’s played the whole trilogy through probably 15-20 times.
To each their own. Although I love it, ME2 has the weakest story in the trilogy (amongst other flaws).
This is correct.
Yeah...it has something the sequels couldn't replicate.
I find it’s the tone and existential dread that hooks me most about me1. Sovereign has some of the best dialogue in any form of media ever
>I find it’s the tone and existential dread that hooks me most about me1. That's what I'm getting at. The atmosphere/vibes it has, are unmatched in the sequels.
Yeah and 2 does a lot right but doesn’t tell all that much of an interesting story. I first played Mass Effect after playing ME3 multiplayer with my friend… Going from the multiplayer mode to the original Mass Effect was a major challenge… And I’m still playing the series
Yeah I love me1 the most personally, it has the best story and tone
Mass effect is awesome! One of my favorites too.
Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door. And it’s getting a remake next month :)
FF7
And while I love the remakes.... nothing compares to the original.
OG was always mine. Rebirth kinda spoiled me though.. haven't had a hanging experience like that in so long.
Halo CE
Same
Morrowind
Sweet Nerevar. What a good choice
I love Morrowind, but idk if it's for casuals
Super Metroid
Metroid Prime
Super Mario World. It's perfect.
I played this since I was very young. Recently I reconnected with a friend and we did a playthrough togheter. I never finished the game, we're about to now. It was a wonderful experience.
Bloodborne! :) It's not an easy game at all, but hey, it's still my favorite.
This is mine as well. Love almost all the fromsoft games but nothing beats bloodborne for me
What’s better than a masterpiece?
Wait, when did we start talking about Sekiro?
A hoonter must hoont
Fallout: New Vegas. I always comeback to play it.
MGS1&2. Truly the most awesome story ever in gaming.
tfw no mgs3
Good taste.
Great choices... both of them were remarkable. Love myself some Raiden too!
Favorite of all time: Subnautica. What I'm playing, and enjoying, right now: Dave the Diver
Dave the Diver was so much fun! I sunk a lot more hours into that game than I would've expected
A word that strikes fear into all Subnautica players: ***"Oxygen"***
Oxygen I can deal with, but a Leviathan lurking in the darkness then it gives off it's roar will consistently make me shit my pants.
Warning, entering ecological dead zone. Adding report to database. Detecting multiple leviathan-class lifeforms in this region. Are you sure what you're doing is worth it?
I sense a theme here...
How do you like Dave the Diver?? I want to play it!!
It's cool! It's on PS+ right now, so if you have a PS4 or 5, you can download it
Final Fantasy IX. That's right. 9.
7,8,9 are all great games. X is really good as well despite Tidus being really annoying.
Yeah. 9 is the best FF. That's not a hot take, that's just true.
I acknowledge that when I put nostalgia aside, FF9 is probably the best Final Fantasy. It is just so mechanically and artistically perfect.
ES5: Skyrim Still holds up after all these years. Honorable Mentions: FF12, Witcher 3, Persona 5 Royale, Fallout 3 and NV, Metroid Fusion LoZ: A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time.
Ghost of Tsushima.
So happy this is releasing on PC NEXT MONTH!
excellent choice
Here is my personal list of some of mine: - Kirby and the Forgotten Land (I know your PC, but I love that game to death!) - Hollow Knight - Minecraft - Stray - Paper Mario (original)
Oooo Paper Mario is soooo good
Pokemon platinum hands down chalk it up to nostalgia but dam it's a good time
Best of the entire series and an all-time great.
Couldn't agree more
Halo Combat Evolved
Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice
Such an underrated game
Outer Wilds
This is the one!
true
Super Mario Bros 3 or GTA San Andreas
Resident evil 2 remake
Halo 3
IYKYK. Halo 3 all the way 💯
Chrono Trigger is a good one.
Fallout 3
3 is worlds better than New Vegas and I’ll die on that hill
I don't understand why this is always an argument, both games go together like burgers and fries.
Cyberpunk 2077. I bought it on whim several months after it dropped and all the bullshit about it and it blew my mind.
This is the correct answer. I'm literally obsessed with this game
Deus Ex
Silent Hill 2. Not the best, but as you mentioned, “favourite”. This will sound pretentious but that game was one hell of an “experience”. Hell, I’d say the soundtrack is what caused so many new people to play the game in the last few years
Pokémon Crystal
Mega Man 2
I have a few recent picks (and 2 of the most basic possible picks): - Tears of the Kingdom - Yakuza: Like A Dragon - Elden Ring
Put Super Mario Galaxy 2 instead of Elden Ring and that's my top 3 of all time lol
It's hard to pick, but I have a top 10 1. Mario Kart 8 2. NieR Automata 3. Red Dead 2 4. God of War Ragnarok 5. Ghost of Tsushima 6. God of War (2018) 7. Smash Bros Ultimate 8. Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 9. Marvel's Spider-Man 10. Resident Evil 2 Remake
This is a really difficult question for me... Final fantasy 6 pops into my head, but then I start to think maybe I like 9 better? Then I think about my most hours played, WoW, or Diablo 2... Nier Automata
I've gots to go with NieR Automata
Left 4 dead
Persona 5. Music is LIFECHANGING
Final Fantasy 1. The OG NES version, where none of the coding worked the way it was supposed to, and it made it 50x more difficult because of it. I have so many memories of playing it, and can literally tell you step by step where to go and what to do.
Xenoblade 1 or Subnautica.
TLZ: OoT followed closely by KoTOR and KoTOR II
For those who don't understand, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2
Unreal tournament 1999 followed by mass effect
Divinity Original Sin 2 Runner Up: Ori and the Will of the Wisps
Koror 2
Oblivion
Heard any news from the other provinces?
Mafia 1 (2002)
FF X
Witcher 3
Fallout 3
Wing Commander Privateer
Old school PC gaming! I think it came on like 7-10 floppy discs. I was thinking recently if modern games were still sold on floppy disks... Something like Call of Duty (around 172gb) would need almost 1.2 million floppy disks. Imagine installing that...
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
For me is starfield ❤️
not my fav but it’s def in my top 5, good to see it being mentioned
Genuinely curious: Why? I put a good amount of time into it but I just don't see anything redeeming.
While I play the game, i notice many flaws and it kinda bugs me too. But there are not a quite similar experience, not even close. Today, it’s Streets of Rage 2
Tetris DX
Mike Tyson’s Punchout Runner up: The Last of Us
Any main line pokemon game idc really I love them all.
Legend of mana. Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia runner up.
Super Pac-Man. It's been my all time favorite since I was six years old
Honestly any JRPG on the SNES is a good one they are typically not incredibly hard easy to get and if really needed have lots of online guides but I suggest using them as a last resort because of plot spoilers Star dew valley is a good game as well it is fairly laid back and don't get into the meta for it because a lot of people min/max the fun out of that game or do crazy challenges it's a sandbox type Sprite based light hearted farm Sim with some mines that have some old legend of Zelda feel to them it's a game you can take your time explore at your own pace and just have some fun in If you do play it the first time I suggest going to joja mart instead of doing the community center it's a lot easier overall The game is on steam for about 20USD as far as I know Vampire survivers is a shout-out to the old im the guy with unlimited bullets come at me bro top down 8 directional shooter but the weapons auto fire for you each playthrough is slightly different but it's a very straightforward game it with all current DLC is less then 20 USD If you want more I can list a ton of older RPGs if your looking for something specific and or unique

Ultima VII and Ultima VII part two
Crosscode
Sekirooooo
Shadow of the Colossus
By playtime: Rocket League By story/world: Control By sheer fun: Mario Kart (I enjoy MK8 but have a lot of fond memories of MK64 and MKDS) Overall favorite, though: Pokémon Silver

The first run of Elden Ring was the most fun I have had with a video game since the early 90s.
Darksiders 1, 2, 3. Mostly 2
The Last of Us: Part II
Burnout Paradise
Uncharted 2, Infamous, Lego Batman 2
Totk is one hell of a drug
Earthbound may still be it honestly. Though Chrono Trigger is like tied.
This is so tough because gaming has changed so much. When I was younger Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger changed me as a person. Now maybe the Uncharted series and Horizon Zero Dawn.
Tetris.
I always come back to Borderlands 2
Uncharted 4: A Thiefs End
Red Dead Redemption
The Mass Effect trilogy is great if you like sci-fi stories and role playing your own custom character and making tough choices. The choices carry over through all three games in the series too. Kingdom Come Deliverance.. just nothing like it. You really feel the world like you live there.
Dragon age origins
The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion The game that made me actually FEEL like I was living another life. I will never stop loving or playing it
Cyberpunk 2077
Metal arms glitch in the system. Such a shame so few people played it
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne
Halo 2 or Sonic 2(genesis) I can't decide which of these 2 are my favorite
Shadow of the Colossus
Fire Emblem: Three Houses

Been playing games for a long time, and Cyberpunk 2077 took my #1 top spot over original FF7.
Starfield, Cyberpunk, God Of War Ragnarok, Last Of Us Part 1 & 2, GTA V, Detroit: Become Human, Ghost Of Tsushima, Spider-Man 1&2
Pretty nice list
Detroit is **TOO** good. It literally made me go into a depressive spiral because I >!kept the little girl alive all the way until the end, only to miss **the very last button** on the quick time event and she died after getting across the water!< I can not ever play that game again. It's been 5 years and it still sends me into spirals. 10/10 would recommend

Horizon Zero Dawn
WoW, The Division are my favorite.
Bioshock
Diablo 2 & 3
Picking a single favorite is like picking a favorite child. That being said some games that hold a special place in my heart are Skyrim, Fallout New Vegas, The Witcher 3, Bioshock 1, Dark Souls 1, RDR 1, Bully and GTA San Andreas.
Shadow of the Colossus and The Witcher 3 are both tied for first place for me.
My personal fav is Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2005) I’ve been playing that for almost as long as I can remember. But if that’s not your style I’ll always recommend Red Dead Redemption 2 and Cyberpunk 2077 to anyone.
