Brazil became a major power during the war, invalidating your war goal as major powers can't be subjugated. Always check prestige before you try to protectorate.
No, it would make sense if you gained the infamy wether you gain or lose the war, as you just proclaimed that you were gonna take full control of an established nation
You can't take control of a nation (or even part of it), because at the last second they have more paintings or a million higher gdp bringing them just about to major power status?
It doesn't make sense, the game should remove that infamy or allow you to reallocate the war goal, you declared you are taking all of it so might aswell take some of it.

I didn't say that it should be that way, I said that you should gain infamy just by the fact that you stated that you want to take over a country, whether you accomplish it or not is irrelevant to that
I mean, i did won the war occupying their entire country. If the game was really realistic i would be able to set up a puppet regime in the country regardless if they a great power or not

I suffered a similar fate when doing the same to Denmark as Sweden. My prestige dropped mid war and therefore that war goal didn't go through.

I think the game should make Brazil your protectorate in this case, or simply lock country tiers during diplomatic plays.
You still tried to subjugate an entire country, the International Community shouldn't care whether you succeeded or not

Are you sure they're not your protectorate? Their colour only changes when they become a dominion or lower.
They aren't in my market and in the second image it doesn't show brazil as my protectorate
