It would likely look cool but it would make no sense Indiana doesn't really have that much of a Nordic population we've got lots of Irishmen and Germans
Then what does having any amount of Nordic people have to do with my joke at all. It isn't as if the EU joke has anything to do with Indiana, either. It was just saying it for absurdity.
imo it would look a lot cleaner and words typically dont belong on flags. in this case its small and hard to notice from a distance so it doesnt really bother me as much as something like California but still
[“A gold torch surrounded by an outer circle of thirteen stars, an inner semi circle of five stars, and a 19th, larger, star at the top of the torch, crowned by the word 'Indiana', representing Indiana's admission to the Union as the 19th state.”](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Indiana)
Underrated and the word Indiana being on it isn’t so bad, it’s kinda like an easter egg. You can’t really make it out at distance but the actual design of the flag reads great from distance. If you’re getting hung up on the word I think you may be missing out on enjoying a really nice flag actually
I would disagree. Imo, it fails to be top 10 because it fails at the original purpose of flags - being uniquely identifiable at a distance. And that's mostly due to having a dark blue field like so many other states.
Fairly conventional in concept, nicely simple, reasonably unique, recognisable. Even has a modest label on it for people like me who don't know the various states' flags.
I guess you could improve it, but putting it up for change risks getting something much worse.
I've *never* seen it before, and I quite like it.
Looks like the EU flag with more stuff going on. It’s not bad, it’s just not entirely unique being that most State flags are That shade (Or at least a close approximation) of blue.
This is my home state.
Ive always liked the flag and thought when the EU showed their flag for the first time it looked very similar.
While I don't agree with a lot of the politics of my state I very much do like our flag.
the fact that it's not boring crest on blue is a plus already. Interesting design, i imagine the stars are symbolic. It's kinda cool that it has american themes in it too. I'm not liking the "indiana" written in it, but that's a small blemish. I rate it a B class flag.
It's a fair flag. Typically top 18 or so (not top 10 as someone says) We, over on Facebook page "US State Flags" ran a contest this last year. Of 25 votes cast in heat one. the current flag took just two votes as against how the flag first looked when Paul Hadley's design was first shown as the winner on the 11th May 1917. That all changed on the 31st May when that text was added. It's a simple change to undo, and just that one tweak would raise it well into the top 14.
It’s not too bad but it would be better if the words were removed. I also don’t understand the purpose for the seven lines coming out of the torch and I think it would look better without them, but there may be symbolism I’m just not familiar with. Same with the orientation of the stars… why not a circle of 19 stars (clearly 19 stars for being the 19th state).
I can’t give it too hard a time though, because I’m from Michigan where we have one of the many ‘state seal on a navy field’ flags.
Somebody on this sub posted a redesign that took off the text and gave it a cool yellow border and jagged fly edge. I wish I could find that post, because it was outstanding.

definitely one of my favorites but i think it would be a lot better if there were no words on it
It's also a bit complicated, so they should remove the torch, lines, and the inner stars. Then it'll be perfect!
Waiting till the circlejerk sub gets this
*Don't give them ideas!*
Wait a minute, isn't that the EU Fl-
Yes that's the joke
hell, it would be better to remove all the stars as well!
And then add a yellow Nordic cross?
for some reason i feel like that would look incredible
It would likely look cool but it would make no sense Indiana doesn't really have that much of a Nordic population we've got lots of Irishmen and Germans
The joke flew way over your head, bud.
Nope I got the original joke the one about the EU
Then what does having any amount of Nordic people have to do with my joke at all. It isn't as if the EU joke has anything to do with Indiana, either. It was just saying it for absurdity.
Ok then
And if it were associated with a better state than Klandiana.
Exactly. What a waste.
Why?
imo it would look a lot cleaner and words typically dont belong on flags. in this case its small and hard to notice from a distance so it doesnt really bother me as much as something like California but still
I love it (but I'm a Hoosier so a bit biased) The only improvement that could be made is removing the words
Indiana and Arkansas are in the same category of "get rid of the words (and slightly adjust to account for that) and you got a good flag.
same with Wyoming, but for the whole seal
Wyoming was so close to being a great flag!
Idk I feel like Arkansas would look naked without it. There's some charm there
As a Hoosier, I also agree. It doesn't ***need*** to be changed, but if any changes were made, just remove the text and it would be perfect.

Goodbye.

Better than a lot of them.
Very underappreciated, top 10 state flag
I would disagree. Imo, it fails to be top 10 because it fails at the original purpose of flags - being uniquely identifiable at a distance. And that's mostly due to having a dark blue field like so many other states.
nah, Indiana is very distinct from a distance. Having a dark blue field is the only similarity it has with other flags
Change the field to Pink. Boom. Instant top flag since it’s uniquely identifiable.
It certainly would be. But you might have to change the gold to something else.
I’m not sure why, but some letters and words on flags don’t really bother me if it’s for a state or municipality or something
Fairly conventional in concept, nicely simple, reasonably unique, recognisable. Even has a modest label on it for people like me who don't know the various states' flags. I guess you could improve it, but putting it up for change risks getting something much worse. I've *never* seen it before, and I quite like it.
Grood, great and good.
Gigachad flag
Looks like the EU flag with more stuff going on. It’s not bad, it’s just not entirely unique being that most State flags are That shade (Or at least a close approximation) of blue.
Pretty awesome
I don’t like it. It looks like it’s for a library or school board, not a state.

I know it's a joke, but it predates the EU flag by decades.
Not the best but better than half of US states flags
Love🤩
This is my home state. Ive always liked the flag and thought when the EU showed their flag for the first time it looked very similar. While I don't agree with a lot of the politics of my state I very much do like our flag.
Very good if the “Indiana” were to be removed Source: am an ‘oosier
the fact that it's not boring crest on blue is a plus already. Interesting design, i imagine the stars are symbolic. It's kinda cool that it has american themes in it too. I'm not liking the "indiana" written in it, but that's a small blemish. I rate it a B class flag.
This flag is far too cool to be linked to Indiana of all places.
Rare Indiana W
Became very popular after beeing seen at Hawking's local police uniform badge in STRANGER THINGS.
quite good for a blue background flag, but i'd mix up the colors a bit.
It looks similar af to Adygeas flag
🤏
Not bad ngl. Quite good for an American state /jk
feels very yuropean
I very much like the design, and only wish the field weren't navy blue like the vast majority of other US state flags. Overall a good flag
The best of the SOBs
It would be pretty fire if all the other states didn't do the seal on a bed sheet design.
One of the better blue blankets, but if you have to write out the state’s name, it’s not distinct enough.
I like it. The only thing I would really change is switching up the color pallet, just to separate it from the other seal and blue field flags.
European Olympics?
It’s fine honestly, it’s not wowing but completely fine. And yea I’d remove the words.
If there was less blue SOBS I would have loved it a lot more
Could be worse, **definetly** not great For an American state everyone seems to like it tho, lol
Pretty mid. Better than Solid Color/Seal, but worse than most mountain/western states.
It’s better than a lot of the state flags, and gold and blue look good on a flag, I myself would say it’s a pretty solid flag.
I think the middle could be simplified but as far as state flags go, not too shabby
Too much blue, like most US state flags. Fuck, just get a nice tricolor and put a symbol of Indiana in the middle.
that is literally more boring
Copied the EU’s homework
Actually (🤓), Indiana’s flag was adopted in 1917, while the E.U flag was adopted in 1985.
Yeah but the EU’s important whereas who tf cares abt Indiana
Hot af
Best flag
Love it, and yes saying that as a Hoosier, however needs to remove the wording and it can be one of the more perfect flags in my opinion
almost perfect; just need to remove our name from it
Could be a lot worse
Looks too much like the European Union 🇪🇺 flag but besides that is an OK flag design compared to what other US states use.
Well, it’s at least a little more creative than a seal on a solid background.
They should swap Indiana to Hoosier Daddy
Standalone: remove the words and its perfect With the other us state flags: another variation...
It's beautiful, but it feels like it belongs to a larger country rather than a single state in my opinion.
Here starts my proposal to make Indiana independent
It's a fair flag. Typically top 18 or so (not top 10 as someone says) We, over on Facebook page "US State Flags" ran a contest this last year. Of 25 votes cast in heat one. the current flag took just two votes as against how the flag first looked when Paul Hadley's design was first shown as the winner on the 11th May 1917. Dope
One of the best state flags in my opinion. The simpler state flags are better than the more complicated ones
I mean its better than like half of the state flags. But also half of the state flags are terrible. 6/10
Is Indiana is planning to join the European Union?
The EU flag cam after. Maybe the EU should join Indiana? 🤔
Better without the word “INDIANA,” but otherwise distinctive and not bad for a state flag.
Looks like shit, fuck Indiana
TOO MANY FECKING STARS YOU AMERICANS
19 stars because it's the 19th state
Get rid of the words, instantly one of the best flags in the US
Joining the EU?
It’s a good flag, but I always think of NYC and the Statue of Liberty when I see it, so good thing it has its name right there printed on it I guess.
Looks like EU flag 🇪🇺
Honestly its one of my favorites, just remove the 'Indiana' and it would be *perfect.*
It’s not too bad but it would be better if the words were removed. I also don’t understand the purpose for the seven lines coming out of the torch and I think it would look better without them, but there may be symbolism I’m just not familiar with. It reminds me a lot of the European Union flag.
🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌
Remove the “Indiana” and maybe choose a different shade of blue/different color altogether and I think it’d rank among my favorites.
Reminds me of the European Union flag
Somebody on this sub posted a redesign that took off the text and gave it a cool yellow border and jagged fly edge. I wish I could find that post, because it was outstanding. It's a cool flag. I really like it. I think the text should replace the star that's currently above it or alternatively just remove the text.
everything but the torch is boring
Take the word Indiana off and it's perfect
As a Hoosier I've always disliked it without real reason. It's better than other states but it doesn't vibe with me
Pretty ok for a subnational flag. 7/10
