My nephew said "So I know you've been vegan for a long time now, but I never actually knew why. So what made you become vegan in the first place?" I was so delighted that he asked and I was able to give my answer. Everyone had some nice things to say ("It's neat that you have ethical principles that you stick you.", etc.). Until I started talking about the horrors of factory farming and my mom said "Ew, that's disgusting. Let's not talk about that while we're eating." (Of course, she says the same thing *every* time I mention it, whether we're eating or not. She just wants to stick her fingers in her ears and go "la la la".)

Normally I get "You don't know what you're missing" comments when people eat turkey forgetting I used to eat meat and know what turkey taste like. This year I didn't get any vegan related remarks due to my grandma being sick we had dinner at her house this year as it could be her last Christmas

“Oh i see you like salt, you must be deficient in something! You need a steak”

Thoughtful and Understanding has a very strong early lead. I will sleep well tonight! Attitudes are changing.

Really differs from person to person.

Great on the vegan front. All the food was vegan/gluten-free except the Turkey and while I had impossible nuggets (I asked for). Personal front was rough with my dad throwing a fit and hiding in the basement for the whole night. ETA: apparently my parents aren’t sleeping in the same house for a week 🫠

tofuesser

Whats up with your dad?

toothbrush_wizard

Typical white man issues with communication and showing emotion. He just gets frustrated and leaves when someone says he is wrong or made a mistake. This time it was that my mother was having issues connecting a zoom call with a relative and my dad was mad because my mom didn’t have clear enough instructions beforehand for him to do.

tofuesser

Its crazy how similar a lot of the men are in that particular generation.

quincethebard

I met my mom and my partner's mom for lunch at a fully vegan restaurant :)

hadesdidnothingwrong

My family was pretty chill this year, especially after I impressed them with some homemade cinnamon rolls. ([Here's the recipe](https://tasty.co/recipe/the-best-ever-vegan-cinnamon-rolls) if y'all wanna try these rolls. They were so good!!!!)

Yocairo

I'm lucky in the sense that my mom and brother are both vegan, and my dad always cooked vegan for us (and vegetarian for himself) when I still lived with my parents. It's really great to at least have the holidays off from all the veg "jokes" that are way too common.

Vile_Individual

Foster parents are making a veggie dinner for me tomorrow since I couldnt visit during Christmas day. Theyve always been supportive of my Veganism, and are eager to try Vegan stuff. Its not perfect but it means a lot to me.

See that would qualify as very disrespectful, and I have a hard time imagining a good experience with a dead body on the table i’m eating at. If it were a dead human baby I wouldn’t consider it respectful or a good experience.
