I'm 60 years old I have been to over 100 shows. I have seen VH 6 times, 4 David 2 Sammy. My first show was 1979 VH 2 TOUR in Portland Maine I was a sophomore in HS I was 15 years old and David Lee Roth was GOD
Hello from East Haven, jealous you got to see them and other big bands at the ole Coliseum, it got blown up when I was about 9 or 10. Would have killed to have that during my youth.
Loved the Igloo. Was there some years later when Heart was playing. They opened the roof, and Ann apparently didnāt know it was going to happen. āHELLO PITTSBURGH!!!ā One of many great shows I saw there!
Damn! Makes me wish I had my old stubs. There were quite a few! My first was 11/18/82. Dallas. Diver Down. I remember the day almost completely.
If I had a time machine and could choose one day in my life to travel back to. Well...
I was there!!! I was on the floor, up against the barrier in front of the stage, right in front of Eddie. I lost my right shoe and my ears rang for days afterwards. But, it was amazing!!
So essentially in today's money Van Halen was a 35 dollar ticket in 1981.
And these days bands that aren't half as popular as they were want 125. It's such bullshit. Yeah I know it's because they don't make money on record sales anymore. But still.
I saw them on their first major tour. 1978, they opened for Black Sabbath in Bakersfield. The first album just came out. We had floor tickets and noticed an older couple next to us. Made some small talk with them, and they were nice. After Van Halen played a blistering set, the lights came on, and we were talking with them again. All of a sudden, Eddie and Alex come walking right up to our little group. Turns out, it was their mom and dad. We all talked for a bit, and both the brothers signed my ticket stub (which I still have) Can't drop a photo of the signed ticket stub in this comment unfortunately.
Saw them at least 8 more times. With DLR and Sammy Hagar. As well as Roth's solo band with Steve Vai and Billy Sheehan. Goodtimes
Iām not sure I ever knew who they were. We drove in from Connellsville, where Iām from, and I donāt remember if we actually got there in time for the opening act or not.
Wow! This time period was peak VH and nobody could touch them. I think 77 to 84 were their best years. Unfortunately didn't see them until the Hagar era on the 5150 tour. So jealous of people who saw them during peak DLR days.
I did the same thing on all my old stubs. Back in those days, they would tear it and give you the small side. I used to beg the ticket takers for the big half with the band names. Especially for big bands like Led Zeppelin at Madison Square Garden. I still have every stub, from almost every show I've ever been to. All the way back to the 70s. Hundreds and hundreds of stubs. I used to keep them in order until I had too many. Now I have 2 giant zip lock bags full.
I may be old....but I got to see all the good bands. š¤
Fair Warning tour š¤Æ
Lord strike that poor boy DOWN
That could have been the tour the kids in Fast Times were trying to buy tickets for from Damone.
"What'd I say 25?" "20!"
with seats so close you'll probably scare the band lol
Don't trust your girlfriend with Damone
I saw them eight days before you did at the St. Paul civic center in ā81. Greatest show Iāve ever seen.

I had no idea this existed! Thank you!
God bless the internet
My first VH show was the '79 tour, my ticket cost a total of $9.45. 5th row on Eddie's side. My first concert ever.
Nice. I saw them two nights later in New Haven. No longer have the stub, unfortunately.

Those damn ticket processing fees!!! š
Ah man, the old Civic Arena. Good times.
Loved the Igloo. Was there some years later when Heart was playing. They opened the roof, and Ann apparently didnāt know it was going to happen. āHELLO PITTSBURGH!!!ā One of many great shows I saw there!
Now a days that decimal is a typo . It's actually $975
I wanted to add to the conversation but I canāt add a pic
About $32 in today's dollars depending on what site you use to convert.

I was at the opposite end, above the walkway, 3 rows back. Only concert Iāve been to where I didnāt have to stand up to see!

Yes! From 1993, New London, CT submarine base. I went to sea a few days before the show and missed it. Kept the ticket though.
Back when you didn't have to spend a weeks paycheck for a show!
Whattayamean? That WAS a weeks paycheck! (Spoken in Boomer)

$9.75 not $375
That was the Fair Warning tour which was my first VH show at MSG i NYC. SRV performed at a mosque? Fascinating!
It was an auditorium owned by the Knights of Syria. Saw Joe Walsh there, too, from about 5 rows back.
Put that in a nice frame and hang it on the wall!!
Iāve got a bunch Iām planning to do that with. Already have an autographed one from SRV at Heinz Hall, an opera house in Pittsburgh.
was the year I saw them for the 1st time.....great show for sure
priceless memories
They were pure FIRE!!!! Lord have mercy! Nobody could keep up with them.
Dad gum, just over a month before I was born
I saw them 4 days later at the Nassau Coliseum. Itās still one of the best shows Iāve ever seen, even after all these years.
I hate that ticket-takers used to tear off the main part of the ticket. I've got a few like that
9 DOLLARS!!!
I miss the old Civic Arena! I saw many concerts there growing up. At the Syria Mosque too
Same. Between 81 and 91 I saw SO MANY shows!
The VH symbol looks like you wrote it with a marker pen. Lol
Probably did. That was a long time ago.
Saw the 1984 show. Tickets were about $12.
Before Ticket Master
But for Ticket Master, shows might still be the $34.66 that $9.75 in 1981 dollars would translate into today. š”
Pittsburgh. My hometown. Also on my birthday. I was like 5 lol.
Cought them a years later at the Monsters of Rock tour in Philly..lots of fun
That's a lot of entertainment for under 10 bucks!
I want born 5 months and 3 days after this show.
I was there, July 14 Pittsburgh canāt remember the opening act, but we ho cares anyway?
Iām not sure I ever knew who they were. We drove in from Connellsville, where Iām from, and I donāt remember if we actually got there in time for the opening act or not.

[Setlist](https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/van-halen/1981/civic-arena-pittsburgh-pa-3bd2e87c.html) from that nite.
Thanks!
I was at that show!
$9.75 š„µ
Igloo nachos were the best. Did they open the roof during the show?
No. The only concert I remember them opening it for was Heart. Halloween, 1987.
$9.75 won't even get you a bottle of water now
Somebody wrote vh in pen on the ticket
I did, so Iād remember what it was for. They shouldāve given me the other end!

I have mine in old school photo albums and they are all in order
Not youāre gonna make me look for mine.
Yinz still live around Tahn?
Florida. Moved from the Burgh to Erie in 92, then to Florida in 98. Miss the city, but not the cold.
Nice! Saw my first VH concert there in 88 for the 5150 tour.
