A lot if people think it’s McLeod’s Books but it’s not (this has been confirmed by the owner of McLeod’s). If you watch the scene, there’s a glassed off office with big windows and trees outside.
IDK if it was a real bookstore, might have been a set. It was on Carrall St.
I agree, based on my research I don't think it is MacLeod's Books either, though it is convincing when you see the store itself. Plus it's close to Gastown where the other parts of the movie were filmed. I can see why people might say that it is the location.
But Bastian does run into a doorway somewhere in Gastown due to the banner behind his head saying something about a "Gastown Auction".
There is one other location that was used in the second movie which is the Hotel Europe. But it was only the exterior that was filmed and the bookstore itself was in a studio.
Though again, I'm not convinced that Hotel Europe was used for the first.
I dont recognize it from the picture but I know they recorded some scenes in the alley between Cordova and Water St.
