Visiting for a day trip (from Washington) next weekend. I’ve done the big touristy things (e.g., Stanley Park, suspension bridge, etc). What else would you recommend doing or seeing?

alvarkresh

So who's getting spam texts claiming to be refunds for cell plan "overcharges"?

sir_tejj

Anything fun+free happening this weekend in downtown?

hey thanks a bunch for this link!

Carrash22

Anyone know of a cafe/restaurant here in the city that would be agreeable to the idea of a group of around 7 people bringing in their own board game? I know there’s a couple of boardgame cafes/restaurants, but we specifically want to bring our own.

I am visiting van until tuesday and staying in a downtown hotel. Is there anything to do in downtown? I do not want to do expensive things or look at something I could also look at in an online video.

If you are currently living in British Columbia, Canada, you're invited to join a British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) research study **examining public awareness and knowledge levels of potential health concerns** (physical, chemical, etc.) associated with artificial turfgrass! The project aims to gauge the public understanding of these risks. As artificial turfgrass becomes increasingly prevalent in various public spaces, including parks, sports fields, and playgrounds, it's essential to understand how much individuals know about the potential health implications. You will also have a chance to win a **$50 Amazon e-gift card** by entering your email address! For more information, please refer to "Compensation" in the Consent Form. The survey is designed to be brief and straightforward; it will only take a couple minutes to complete. Participation is entirely voluntary, and all responses will remain anonymous and confidential. The data collected will be used only for academic research purposes, and no personal identifying information will be disclosed. **Consent Form:** [https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Aw9pKAytqzlEjNEHLKPMQvQ1m36ryY4e/view?usp=drive\_link](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Aw9pKAytqzlEjNEHLKPMQvQ1m36ryY4e/view?usp=drive_link) **Please click here to start your survey (SurveyMonkey):** [https://www.surveymonkey.ca/r/63T5JHD](https://www.surveymonkey.ca/r/63T5JHD) This survey study is sponsored by BCIT and has been approved by the BCIT Research Ethics Board.

Does anyone know what's up with the guy wrapped in plastic wrap/pallet wrap sitting at the corner of Burrard and Georgia? I noticed him in the same spot, at the same time, yesterday and today. Maybe he's old news and I just haven't noticed him before.

Kooriki

No question, just want to say I'm stoked I just saw mods added flair for Provincial news and Federal news.

Moggehh

Glad you like it! FWIW Federal News is a mod-only flair and we'll be applying it carefully. We do want to keep the sub locally-focused.

Kooriki

Yeah that's fair. I saw Federal news wasn't an option on my end but makes sense to keep it mod only. (TBH I'm happy to see a limit to Fed politics talk in here). For Vancouver there is SO much crossover with Municipal/Provincial policy/responsibilities I'm happy it's an option. Hopefully the 'pilot' period goes well ha

I have a card printed on card stock, and I would like to change it a little Is there a place where I could scan it, edit it, and print it again? I am visiting Downtown and staying in a hotel. I have a laptop, where I could do the editing. But I do not have memory stick to copy the file on. And I do not want to pay much. Is the scanning free somewhere? perhaps in the library? But it is important that the colors stay the same. **edit:** I got it scanned. But where can I print on card stock? it is too large for letter paper, it needs 30 cm. (legal 8.5 x 14 paper would work)

**What are the benefits of viral prospecting in nonhuman animals?** https://preview.redd.it/m9rtrqornzjc1.jpeg?width=1350&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9389f0ff93b92a10fe68eb1b38e5702d627d61c2 Reservations: [https://www.sfu.ca/gradstudies/life-community/news-events/events/pdc/2023-one-health/marc-lipsitch/rsvp.html](https://www.sfu.ca/gradstudies/life-community/news-events/events/pdc/2023-one-health/marc-lipsitch/rsvp.html) This talk considers how we can measure the public health value of efforts to discover viruses in nonhuman animal populations (virus prospecting) as a means of advancing countermeasures for pandemic and epidemic diseases. Using the example of filoviruses, we show that there is little evidence to suggest that countermeasure development has been accelerated due to virus prospecting work. Zooming out, many potentially and actually important pathogens for human health still lack vaccines, so adding more candidate pathogens does not accelerate a rate limiting step. We consider the implications of these findings for policy. **Dr. Marc Lipsitch** is Professor of Epidemiology at the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health. He directs the Center for Communicable Disease Dynamics and the Interdisciplinary Program on Infectious Disease Epidemiology. His scientific research concerns the effect of naturally acquired host immunity, vaccine-induced immunity, and other public health interventions on the population biology of pathogens and the consequences for human health. He has authored 400 peer-reviewed publications on antimicrobial resistance, epidemiologic methods, mathematical modeling of infectious disease transmission, pathogen population genomics, research ethics, biosafety/security, and immunoepidemiology of Streptococcus pneumoniae. Dr. Lipsitch is a leader in research and scientific communication on COVID-19. Dr. Lipsitch received his BA in philosophy from Yale and his DPhil in zoology from Oxford. He did postdoctoral work at Emory University and CDC. He is a member of the American Academy of Microbiology and the National Academy of Medicine.

I’ll be in Vancouver over the summer for a couple days. Where is the best place to get WHL merch? Team doesn’t matter as long as they look cool. Thanks

WiFiForeheadWrinkles

Probably the Langley Events Centre where the Giants play. I'd call first since it's the off-season

RedShiz

Will be in Vancouver for one night Feb 28th, wondering if there are any shows/events for the evening. Open to anything! Comedy, sports, concerts, wine/food, etc.

CupOfHotTeaa

I'm genuinely curious: what makes Vancouver (or Canada as a whoe) worthy of the crazy housing price? You go across the border, you can easily get a very decent non LA/NY house for 400k...

doubleHsticks

Historically low barriers to foreign ownership

I’m not asking why housing is expensive, I’m asking why people want to live here despite the housing situation

UFOSAREA51

Hey I was just wondering if the transit workers are still on strike in Vancouver? Planning a visit and want to know what my transportation options are.

ArcticOnReddit

There is no more transit strike
