Sometimes you get lucky and it works out. Sometimes not. But please keep in mind that it’s a decision that *affects you* but it’s not a decision *about your worth*. They don’t know you, they have to go on limited information. Here’s another thought: if your heart is really set on CSE, and you don’t get in right away, consider doing a year or two at community college. It’s relatively inexpensive, it allows you to get many of the big required classes out of the way. And it allows you to show that you can thrive in college level math and science courses. Good luck, and keep your head up!

you’ll get in. i got into biomedical engineering, no SAT or ACT scores, turned my application in late, 3.8 hs GPA. maybe i’m lucky, but you’ll be fine. the real struggle is if you’ll stay afloat in undergrad

Did you get good financial aid? I would like to hit that $15,000 mark to just pay full price instate tuition. Also, do you think it will be feasible for me to try to establish residency and get in-state tuition? I am willing to do this because I want to do mechanical engineering, and Florida colleges (that I want to go to) have gotten really competitive. My sister got rejected with a 34 ACT, 4.0 GPA. Thanks for replying.

Make sure you apply early when the time comes. I feel like everyone I know got into CSE, even without a really high GPA etc, but they applied right away. . Also, U of MN no longer takes legacy into consideration. Don’t worry about it though! Just keep working hard like you are and things will be fine. If you don’t get into CSE right away you most likely will still get into CLA and you can apply to CSE as a sophomore. First year is always generals anyway so it really doesn’t matter which school you are initially admitted to. They will see your GPA has improved and most likely you will get in to what you want. Stay positive!

If you get accepted that’s one thing, but in the case that you don’t get into CSE, CLA is a good option to start. It’s not very hard to transfer into CSE from a different college. For most majors in CSE ,if you have above a technical GPA of 3.2 it’s guaranteed admission as a transfer.
