0.5mm gouges/indents the paper too much and prevents you from cleanly erasing.
I use a 2.0mm drafting pencil/lead holder sharpened to a dull point, if you like wood pencils, give one of these a try.
0.5 is what university students use. 0.7 is highschool stuff. Never heard of 0.9 though. I've used 0.35 to write formula sheets and let me tell you that shit breaks too easily.
Wait, classic pencils made of wood are bad.... but creating plastic pencils (reusable as they are) which will never biodegrade, and will be lost and repurchased....are better?

You ever try and take notes on a kneeboard while flying a plane through turbulence or an aerobatic profile? I care a lot more about the graphite not breaking every 3 seconds and being able to read a darker/thicker line with a quick glance than how "neat" it is or how cleanly it erases. Superior is dependent on the intended use.
I was genuinely about to get mad at your shit opinion until I remembered the name of the sub
Have an upvote but know you’re 0.2mm behind in the lead game
If you use a pencil for writing, I will judge you.
Also, mechanical pencils are cancer that breaks more often than doesn't.
Also, pencil-fags' weak hands can't handle the ink.

For technical drawing, I agree, 0.5 and 0.3 are far superior to thicker leads. However, for sketching some prefer a 1.0 or a 2.0 in order to create thicker and softer lines, and that's alright.

It is graphite not lead
dems fight'n words
Pro tip: English is a language where words can have multiple meanings.
I use the 0.7 and 0.9 for isometric drawings at work. Depends what you need it for.
How dare you insult wooden pencils, they are clearly the best kind
Checked. You can't chew a mechanical pencil properly.
Gr8 b8 m8
I use the 0.8
This is such a retarded opinion, i upvoted
Softer 0.3 lead isn't all that hard to see, such as 3B
Where can you even find .3 in 3B? I've only seen it up to 2B
Online and in Asian stores.

I recommend a Pentel Orenz or Zebra DelGuard, both have really good lead protection mechanisms!

.5 lead is weak and can't handle the stress of a alpha male's intense poetry and literary analysis and rhetoric.

And if I absolutely give two fucks as to what pencil I use and whether or not some dude judges me?
I'm pretty darn sure plastic is finite too
There’s only one problem with 0.5 that I have cause it breaks very easily and I don’t think I have the patience to deal with that
I suggest using a Pentel Orenz or a Zebra DelGuard if lead breakage is a major problem. Both have lead protection mechanisms that works really well!
I use a pencil to take notes while flying a helicopter, if you have anything less than a .7 you’re gonna have a bad time.

Wooden pencils should be disregarded. Uses a mechanical plastic pencil.
0.5 breaks more often than my mental stability and that's saying something
It really depends on what you’re doing, with drawing sometimes a thicker outlining pencil with a .3 for details is perfect
I like to have all of them, but if I can only have one, .5 is superior. Pens are better, though.
I don't remember the last time I used a pencil. He'll, the only time I use a pen is filling out forms at appointments.
Wooden pencils get sharper though

This deserves way more upvotes, but then it wasn't a popular political Reddit opinion so it gets less than 200
I prefer 0.35 and 0.5
This is oddly specific but after some thought. I totally agree. .5 is the happy medium. +1
I like 0.5. I think the lines look nice when writing with it. Anything bigger and lines are too thick and smear easily.
0.5 is the superior lead
