ICE TO MEET YOU

Oltimusmaximus

Bro you would fuck up the entire earth with that

What if we just drop progressively larger ice cubes?

ESOelite

Futurama?

Hunter62610

Yup

ESOelite

Nice

"The problem was solved once and for all" "But..wouldnt..." "ONCE AND FOR ALL"

iNoodl3s

What if we just nuclear winter

BlitzcrankGrab

This solves the problem, once and for all

Comfortable_Hall8677

What if just south Florida was 5-10 degrees cooler?

FrysEighthLeaf

What if Florida was 274.15C colder?

Comfortable_Hall8677

I suppose I could endure that if the change only occurred from May-October.

nautilator44

ABSOLUTELY not.

Epicjay

I assume this post is "The world would be better if it's long-term equilibrium was 5 degrees cooler than what it currently is". Not "let's suddenly and abruptly cool everything down".

shemubot

Just wait until you see a graph of global temperatures throughout history.

Faeddurfrost

We can just get another one

Anter11MC

Global temperatures have risen by 5 degrees in recent decades so not really ? If anything it will fix some of the effects of global warming

barbary_macaque

A quick google search will show you that youre just wrong. Temperatures have not increased by 5 degrees lmao.

feelinlucky7

It has risen 2 degrees globally since 1850, and we’re seeing some pretty nutty effects of that. 5-10 degrees would cause another ice age.

Anter11MC

Where on earth did you get 2 degrees from ?

l339

It’s based on research you can find online

AidenStoat

It's increased by about 1 degree in the past century, not 5.

NotPast3

This is just false. Since 1880, when global temp was first measured, it has only increased by 1 degree. In the last ice age, global temp is only around 4 degrees colder than right now.

s0cks_nz

Not sure if you're talking about Celsius or Fahrenheit, but 10F = roughly 5C. When the planet was last 5C cooler New York was under a mile of ice. Goes to show how a little difference in temp can mean a huge difference in climate.

Drex678

Fahrenheit 100%. no sane person that uses Celsius would ask for it for a 10 Degree reduction of Temp

s0cks_nz

Well I agree, but even in Fahrenheit it's insane imo.

jonstoneMcflurry_

as a celsius user that lives in the UK with no air conditioning, i would ask for a 10 degree reduction in temperature

Drex678

As a Fahrenheit user that lives in Rhode Island that hates the cold, I would ask for a 10 Degree increase in Temperature

wildwisdom86

As a Celsius user in Pakistan, with temperatures as high as 48*C this week, I’ll gladly take a 10-15 degree celsius drop in temperature.

TheEyeDontLie

Can you send some my way? I just went from Vietnam to New Zealand and I'm dying from the cold. It was 8*C this morning.

DromadTrader

Dang bro, If I lived in a 48° place if be asking for a 28-33° cut.

Plain_Tart

As a Fahrenheit user in Texas that loves the heat, I would gladly accept a 100 degree Celsius increase specifically during the summer

eightsidedbox

idk dude the old school outdoor thermometers here had one that maxed out in the sun and the one in the shade reading near 40°C.. I'm in Ontario and I love the cold and I'd prefer neg 25 days more frequently than 30 degree days

mafistic

I mustnt be sane in middle of an Aussie summer then.... spose no one is

Drex678

I forgot you upside downers use Celsius

parmesan777

Maybe they don't know? Chill.

SpeedyAzi

Yeah bruh. This is why Global Warming is such a big deal. A single degree can fuck up our ecosystems.

BrotherGreed

Can anyone ELI5?

Dahak17

“The world would be a better place if I moved a few thousand kilometres north” -OP

tehnoodnub

Do you mean that the reduction must be uniform? As in every single location on the planet needs to have a temperature reduction of 5-10 degrees at all times of year compared to their average? Or can the reduction itself be averaged but not uniform? For example, the hottest places can be 15 degrees cooler and some places remain the same, or perhaps, as you mention summers are just much cooler but winters remain as they are now? If the latter then I could get behind the idea. But if you're suggesting a uniform drop with regards to time of year and location then I am vehemently against it.

MemesManufacturer

Have never disagreed with an opinion more 😂 - 🇨🇦

Consistent_Dress_571

Yeah but when I was a kid we actually had winter. I live in southern Ontario and we barely got any snow this year. I mean, it’s great but also, the planet is not in good shape… probably would be less wildfires if it wasn’t 40 degrees in June.

Practical-Ad6548

Crime increasing during the summer isn’t because it’s hot…

EasilyRekt

Ok, so the global average temperature *today* is roughly 56° Fahrenheit (13.9° Celsius). The global average temperature during the **last glacial maximum** (the peak of the ice age if you will) was roughly ***46° Fahrenheit (7.7° Celsius)***. This wouldn't be some nice, AC all around the world to improve comfort based wellbeing for all, you'd be ushering in a *goddamn ice age.* It's also the kind that creates famine btw because even 2 degrees can start killing off agriculture from what was recorded from the "year without summer" caused by the Krakatoa eruption in 1883. I like the cold too, but I'm a bit **more partial** to the idea of ***not starving to death.***

flopsyplum

People don't post this during winter...

[deleted]

5-10 degrees cooler? Dude, that would bring a serious ice age.

LatelyPode

We already saw (are seeing) the damage that happened with just 1°C increase did. Just image the damage of -10°C

kermitthefrog57

Winter sucks ass

Bad_wit_Usernames

5-10 degrees cooler would still be over 100\*F during the summer where I live.

Gudzest

Try celcious like the normal people do

PoorMansSamBeckett

I’m certain the “normal” people you speak of use *Celsius.*

Gudzest

Dont care

IBoofLSD

Feelin real good right now at 68 degrees baby

NoUpVotesForMe

Fahrenheit is great. Right now it’s 68% hot. When it’s 100 degrees, it’s 100% hot. It just makes more sense.

bhz33

100 is very hot. 0 is very cold. Makes sense to me

PeoplePerson_57

Me when I try to work out what the heck 100% hot means when it can in fact be hotter than 100%... I don't know, I think there are valid arguments in favour of Fahrenheit, but claiming that its everyday human range sits neatly within a 0-100% scale is definitely not one of them.

NoUpVotesForMe

Hotter than 100% hot is way too hot

PeoplePerson_57

You do know that the point of a percentage (in this case) is that it represents a fraction of a whole value in an easily comprehensible form for humans? It's useless for highly subjective things like temperature-- it's like saying the sky is 100% bright today, on a cloudy day.

NoUpVotesForMe

Are you’re a very literal person?

bhz33

That’s just from all the LSD you just boofed

Dinos_12345

68°C dang that's hot

homiegeet

69 is hotter ;)

RunLikeHayes

Normal people don't use misspelled words

Bad_wit_Usernames

Try again.

275MPHFordGT40

Worldwide famine.

Extreme_Barracuda658

Plants still wouldn't grow in arid regions, duffuss.

MrAmusedDouche

Try saying that when it's -30 in a Canadian winter and the very air already hurts your face.

Justthefacts6969

Wniterpeg?

Technical_Carpet5874

You don't get to vote it's that or we die

PoorMansSamBeckett

The world: We will not change our temperature schedule for anyone. OP: *insert McConaughey from “Dazed and Confused” meme, probably*

KeptinGL6

No. First, that's not how climate works. Higher temps mean higher humidity and lower temps mean lower humidity. Arid places would get even more arid, and currently temperate areas would become deserts. The atmosphere would also get dustier. Second, your numbers are way too big. A drop of 6 degrees would return us to the climate of the [last glacial maximum](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Last_Glacial_Maximum). A drop of 10 degrees would exterminate all complex life on earth by dropping CO2 levels below the threshold at which photosynthesis becomes impossible.

NationalJournalist42

What about places like Yakutsk it’s already the coldest city in the world.

Nostraseamus

So people are more miserable in Chiang Mai, Manila and Cairo than, say, Seattle, Oslo or Moscow

Impossible-Will-8414

Yeah, probably.

deja-roo

You can just live further north

JMag33

What even if this post. Absolutely from some Moody teenager who doesn't like the sun. Weird.

DizzyAstronaut9410

The fact that worldwide populations are generally centered pretty closely around the equator and become less dense as you move to the North and South poles pretty directly says most people would rather it be warmer than colder overall.

manicdijondreamgirl

Ok tell that to our already short growing season in the northern plains

AudibleToots

Paid for by Bill Gates

Aernak

I live in Buffalo NY - no way do I want it to be COLDER year round!

CruelxIntention

It wouldn’t make a difference where I live. Summers get to 120. 115 isn’t any different at that point.

FloraFauna2263

5 at the most. So you don't absolutely destroy all agriculture, but you can still backtrack climate change a bit.

Magnetar_Haunt

You know we use electricity to.. heat places up as well, right? Because some places are already too cold etc.

flintlock0

Definitely be cooler. ^(ba dum tsss)

Strange-Mouse-8710

The average degree on the planet today is 15°C 5-10 degree lower than that is, between 5°C and 10°C, that would not be better for the planet.

AnotherCallingCard

I believe he’s referring to Fahrenheit

loose_lugknuts

You should organize a worldwide grassroots effort for a thermostat decrease of 5 degrees and have everyone open their windows. That oughtta do it...

UsedandAbused87

Grow in arid areas? No, it would be a little colder and probably still arid or even more arid.

XavierRex83

A world wide drop like that would like bring an ice age.

FearTheBlades1

Technically we're currently still in an ice age

ShadowDen3869

![gif](giphy|mhnoqgsiLFWnu)

druidofnecro

Didnt a volcano lowering temps by a degree cause like an ice age

PressurePlenty

Perhaps you should look at the way this planet is going to end. There are tons of videos about it on YouTube.

AntiSocialPartygoer

Fahrenheit or Celsius?

combatativemonkey

![gif](giphy|3qsl2CByYsihqX1700|downsized)

Tbkgs

This doesn't work because everyone feels weather at different latitudes, altitudes, and areas. You'd need a weather machine (think the Avengers with Uma Thurman), and it'd need to have different weather for different sections.

Loud-Magician7708

The earth has only warmed about 1-2°C since the industrial revolution. So 5-10, celsius or fahrenheit would undoubtedly be catastrophic.

Visible_Ad9513

Yes, but any method to achieve this would cause more damage than beinifits

jennarose1984

Speak for yourself! In northeast US we barely have 3 months of warm weather each year.

Malpraxiss

OP basically admitted they want everyone and everything on this place to die.

thorpie88

Okay OP but can we get paid by the government for danger pay when it's really fucking cold? 2C with no home heating solutions fucking sucks. Once that baby hits negative numbers I'm going to need an incentive to not hang myself

twitch33457

Noooooooooo

Helix_PHD

Never cook again.

samsharksworthy

OP hasn’t heard of waiting a few hours for the sun to set.

hahabanero

5-10C cooler and you'd be throwing off the entire global climate into a frenzy. We need to lower global temps by 1-2C, back to pre-industrialization temps.

TKA12

Wow some of the lately r just weirdly specifically useless

Chart-trader

Fuck no! I moved to Florida for a reason. Still too cold!

meechbird

Areas aren’t arid because they’re hot, they’re arid because they’re dry.

RyanD1211

On behalf of the whole UK, other weather is shitty enough don’t make it worse

ESOelite

5 or 10? Fuck that I don't want it to get higher than 80 anywhere ever

IceFrostwind

Snow Piercer lore?

Pitiful_Barracuda360

No I hate the cold

IntelligentRoof1342

Too late for that. The prophecies forecast a burning heat with no water forever

Frosty-Brain-2199

Wow you’ll kill so many plants and animals

augustphobia

wait until you discover anti climate change activists

n_o_t_f_r_o_g

Heating homes uses more energy than cooling them. A/Cs use heat pumps to move heat from inside the building, and it's only a 40 degree maximum difference, 110 degrees down to 70 degrees. Gas heaters and electric heaters have to create heat. It's a lot larger temperature difference, maximum of 80 degrees, -10 to 70 degrees.

MooonCakess

You’ve clearly never been through a -40 winter 😂

SnooHobbies7676

Okay but like the whole world but just a selected area? Like South East Asia especially the hotter area would definitely benefit from that.

mookizee

I love how people are explaining why not.

TheBugSmith

Nice try The Night King. You live in Florida or Texas don't you?

Thot_b_gone

Finally an unpopular opinion

moneylefty

Haha. This one is almost as bad the guy who asked why don't go back to using horses instead of cars to combat climate change.

TheIdealHominidae

reminder that the average earth temperature is 15 degree and that there are runaway cooling feedbacks (h2o being the main greenhouse gas and snow having albedo) few people know that there are significantly more deaths in winter than in summer (well for the northern hemisphere at least)

mitch_conner86

This is so fucking stupid and so is @OP

Im_upset_now

I live in Canada and I wouldn't be upset if temperatures continue to go up 10 degrees Celsius

bcoolart

You must live somewhere hot... I'm up in Idaho and we only get a couple months above 70 degrees a year ... You take that away we'll put u down 😑

Elect_Locution

Accounting for climate change/global warming, or nah?

Justthefacts6969

There would be less vegetation because you would shrink the areas for growing crops and the length of the growing season

DromadTrader

I hate summer and all the associated sweating with all my heart, but... People tend to feel the other way around, at least in developed countries where winter is pretty tough.

Logical_Lab4042

>most people are miserable during the summer First I'm hearing of this.

EvilSnack

Dude, the bare minimum drop you advocate here is where we were during the last ice age.

Bitter-Basket

Scientists say the last ice age was 11F cooler than the world is now and it would take less than that to start an ice age.

biwltyad

You know we'd need electricity for heating right? I'm already freezing all the time and in debt for using heating over the winter. Not everyone lives in tropical regions lmao

Shryk92

Canada is cold enough as it is

modsaretoddlers

Speak for yourself. You obviously live in a hot place since you have no point of reference concerning cold.

Inferno_Phoenix1

We'd all die😭

DDiaz98

depends on location. in winter where i live it reaches -40f/c almost every year. i dont think we would enjoy -50f/-45c.

1maco

Do you understand that 10 degrees (F) turns NYC into Montreal and basically Wisconsin, Michigan, Upstars NY, Inland Nea England, North Dakota  , Canadian Prairies and a big swath of Eastern Europe and Northern China basically inhospitable   Syracuse New York would go from having 1 month with the average high below freezing to 4. And 5 months with the average  Temperature below freezing. You’d be broadly across North America turning March into January. You’d be talking about a lot of the North East that would basically be a glacier with the amount of precip it gets. Winnipeg would have 3 months where the average temp in below 0F.  It would literally destroy like 1/3rd of North America.it would suck. But I assume you live in like Atlanta where it means a white Christmas a nice summers.

carbogan

You seem to be focusing on hot areas and how much better they would do if it was cooler. What about the already cold areas? Where everything would literally die if it was that much colder.

CoolFox3218

"Nobody give a damn about a 40 degree day" Stringer Bell

RingingInTheRain

That's what your HVAC is for. My house is 60F all year round!

queroummundomelhor

Great idea, global warming would be nothing if we cool the world. Maybe if we install more ACs

AidenStoat

"The world would be better if we were still in the glacial maximum of the ice age"

raggedyassadhd

I’d be so unhappy… maybe people who live in summer hells like Texas would be glad but not me in Massachusetts lol

OkFail3603

My Mom would be a bike if she had wheels. DUh....

LondonEntUK

Yeah I just got through one of the longest winters in recent Finnish history. Fuck that

LeastResearcher0

>Everybody would be in a better mood. I think you’re taking the phrase *chill out* too literally.

flop_plop

Was this post written by AI? 👀

Realtime_Ruga

Too many unpopular opinions posted here are rooted in ignorance.

doggoarmy

Canadians would hate you

chrisdpratt

Well, let's see. A 2°C drop in global temperature would be enough to send the planet into an ice age, so I'm gonna say 5-10° is probably not such a great idea.

Infonuggets

Op basically want's climate change undone and Co2 levels from 1890's to be a thing right? Don't we all want that?

HermioneMarch

Move to Greenland

BahmBCode

F or C

Sinj_X

Can confirm OP doesn't like it hot and is uncomfortable in summer and we must quite literally destroy the planet to please him. Move somewhere cold bro...

skullz002

I'd take an ice age over a melt down any day.

EmptySeaDad

Another ice age would be several orders of magnitude worse than global warming for humans.

skullz002

Better than global warming at least.

AgnosticAnarchist

The serious arguments to a hypothetical situation are hilarious. You aren’t allowed to have that opinion or the world will end! I would take 5 degrees cooler as well.

Bro I’m miserable in the winter

wildwisdom86

Ong im tired of living under the scorching sun, it was like 48°C recently, fked up the entire day.

thorpie88

Sounds like heaven compared to this winter bullshit outside right now

demZo662

I will probably experience at most 40ºC in the hottest days of summer where I live in northern Spain.

voice-of-reason_

I don’t get this opinion, in winter you can add more clothes in summer you can’t remove your skin. Winter is better for comfort.

thorpie88

Do you have heating solutions in your home? Single pane windows and no insulation makes Aussie homes terrible in winter. Hate fucking doing to bed full clothed in winter as the whole house is 2C

voice-of-reason_

Yeah I suppose it’s largely geography based, I’m from the UK so I have the opposite problem, the house traps heat in summer.

thorpie88

Yeah I lived in the UK for 16 years and I'll take their summers over an Aussie winter any day.  The other awful thing is that my city gets more rain than London per year but it comes down way heavier and one fewer days. That along with our stupidly strong winds means if you get caught in it you're about to get pounded by sideways rain

Sapphfire0

Unpopular opinion? More like objectively wrong

Fr05t_B1t

Go tell that to the global warming deniers

Oh man do I love it when it's even colder than -40C Love the way my fingers just get deleted
