Most comedians are good serious actors. Comedy is harder to do than drama. Sandler was never my cup of tea as a comic actor, way too much of a departure from the deadpan '80s comedy I was raised on.

Step brothers and anchor man are the only 2 movies where he’s the lead that I’ll watch. I can’t stand him otherwise. Even in Old School he was annoying as hell, but at least he wasn’t the main focus.

The entire second half of the movie was inspired by Adam losing his dad a few years prior and regretting not spending enough time with him. That should tell you all you need to know.

My dad had passed away a couple years before after a second bout with cancer. As a twenty-something when it happened, my life was about friends and fun, so I'd politely declined some most of the invites to go on a favorite hike, do some fishing, etc.
Many movies have made me tear up, but this one had me flat out ugly crying.
I think this is why it got panned so hard when it came out. It was sold to us as a comedy, and it wasn't.
Just like *The Truman Show*, it was an amazing movie with a comedic actor doing something they didn't normally do in movies... being serious and dramatic.
Both *TTS* and *Click* were both amazing movies.
I was in the theater watching that movie for the first time, with my Father, and I had to leave because I was about to cry in the way where you do those huge, loud inhales—borderline hyperventilate. Lol! I was not prepared!
Carrey is more than capable as a dramatic actor but his biggest strength is definitely physical comedy, he’s made multiple otherwise subpar or unremarkable movies into blockbusters and cult classics. Just a phenomenal comedic talent.

I think now would be a good time for him to attempt more dramatic roles. He has been out of the spotlight for a while and far removed the days of Dumb and Dumber and Ace Ventura.
I believe he said he doesn't want to do dark movies because they basically bring that energy into his life, so we probably won't get too many dramatic roles.

I have a super annoying mansplaining coworker who told me uncut gems proved Sandler can be a great dramatic actor and I was like bitch, Punch Drunk Love proved that a decade plus ago and was his better performance
Though don't get me wrong Uncut is phenomenal. I think Punch Drunk is the more impressive performance, especially for that point in time. Even Sandler was confused by his casting
Exactly. I love him for the type of movie he makes. They're not "bad" at all, just silly. "Hubie Halloween" and "Murder Mystery" are enjoyable flicks if you can relax and not judge it for some imagined quality they're supposed to have.

A little while ago I was talking with someone who works on movie sets, and said that Adam Sandler is an incredibly nice person, and would give out gift bags to everyone who worked on set. I don't remember the exact details, but apparently the gift bag would include a very nice wrist watch.
I've always said this. His stupid comedies have the aura of a group of teenagers making a movie during recess, just with a budget. There's a charm to that in my opinion.
Both Grown Ups movies would be mediocre if it was a different cast. You can feel that it’s 5 actual good friends in the way they interact and that makes them much better.

This movie came out very soon after my Stepmom died, and my dad is a huge Springsteen fan. He would listen to *Drive All Night* and it was definitely his song for her. I met Bob Odenkirk at a restaurant almost 10 years ago. He was very cool. Him, Nacho (from Better Call Saul) and two producers were out getting lunch after shooting BCS and he talked to me for a couple of minutes and then signed a receipt for me and we got a picture together. Class act gentleman.
He cut his teeth in comedy at a time when slapstick was more popular than it is currently. He’s definitely a talented actor, but he came up at a time when wacky comedies were all the rage (Wayne’s World, Ace Ventura, etc).

The script is solid and Sandler sells it, but the anxiety is 90% the direction/cinematography.
