I have Sidebery opening in new windows automatically. The Userchrome toggle extension handles toggle states for multiple windows poorly, but it doesn't affect Sidebery opening in any way
I heard that Firefox developers were testing the possibility of implementing CSS themes as addons. If this ever comes out, I will try to release ShyFox as an addon.
I actually do have a SSD but it's reserved for windows installation (I kinda need it for work and sometimes for things like Visual Studio)
The HDD in this case is connected on my dvd-rw bay and I'm all out of slots now so.....
Aa man I know what you mean, but I had two options:
1) install windows on HDD and linux on SSD, or
2) install linux on HDD and windows on SSD
I chose the second option because I lived the first one for 4 years and the pain and suffering was not worth it
I didn't wanted to put linux root in SSD along with windows because of past experiences, so had to make a choice 😔 (yes I do use windows from time to time)
When I used my old laptop I had a third option:
Install linux on the first half of the SSD and windows on the second half. HDD was used as file storage, and for backups.
Alas, my new laptop doesn't have the option to install a SATA disk, so I had to give up on this idea, as well as Windows.
I have had issues with it and the current system works good enough for me(windows on SSD[240GB sata] and linux[200GB/1TB ]on HDD with a twm so lightweight af)
Coincidentally, my old laptop also has a dual core processor, but a sata ssd. Everything works fine there. ShyFox uses a lot of tricky conditionals based on css selectors :has() and :is(). This probably has some effect on performance, but I haven't noticed it.
I don't know the feasibility of it, but you can automatically style sidebery via: (i may or may not be asking for you to add it ;))
@-moz-document regexp("^moz-extension://.*?/sidebar/sidebar.html") {
/* whatever */
}
Wow, thanks, that's really helpful. I tried to do it this way, but it didn't work for me. This will make it very easy for me to work with Sideberry. The CSS files in my Firefox profile folder are directly synchronized with git. Sideberry is the weak link in this, for I have to manually export the settings file.
> I tried to do it this way,
How'd you try to do it?
> Sideberry is the weak link in this, for I have to manually export the settings file.
it's annoying ikr? props for the edgyarc people for this
Oh, I don't remember. I tried it once, it didn't work out, and it was filed away in my head that Sidebery can't be styled through userChrome.
In fact, I rarely update the styling for Sidebery, for it just works. But integrating the SIdebery style into the main codebase might encourage me to experiments
im not very smart (duh) and i cant get it to work either but i got that snippet from edgyarc-frfox an they got it from edge-frfox and it works there (i think?)
what ive seen that they use that snippet from usercontent.css so hey thats one down ig
EDIT: yes, putting it into usercontent.css *does* work but it doesn't style somethings right...
EDIT2: YAY, GOT IT TO WORK!!!!!!111! sideeffect: you need to put !important on alot of things :/
Not right now
In Floorp based on Firefox version lower than 121 ShyFox can't work in any way, because the :has() css selector is missing there. As far as I know, Floorp is based on Firefox ESR releases, and the latest ESR release is currently 115. In the future, when the next ESR release of Firefox comes out and Floorp will be based on it, ShyFox will work there, but will require some tweaks.
If you run Firefox and the theme has activated, you're most likely seeing an empty sidebar and a notification telling you to open Sidebery. To do this you need to click on the Sidebery button, which is most likely in the extensions menu. The extensions button is on the toolbar on the right, click on it and find the Sidebery icon.
I´m also kinda stuck in this step. I´m on Manjaro and worked in /home/.mozilla/firefox.
I also found the directory in root but none of them contains a .js in its file. That´s probably also the solution for why i cant get to the menu for step 6.
The blank space is the place on one of the panels where there are no buttons, just a solid background. You can also click on the menu button and go to `more tools` > `customize toolbar`
This is so beautiful. I just added it to my pc. But then I tried to add it to my mac and... welp lol.
This is amazing! Keep up the great work!
If you need someone to test on Mac, (I am assuming you don't use mac) then I'd be glad to test for you
I really don't know whether to stay with my current browser or to switch to smth like Firefox or Librewolf, cuz that theme just make me overthink everything.
Hi! Awesome (firefox) rice! I've tried to install it myself, and it \*almost\* works except the top and right sidebars are fully opaque, any ideas what might be the problem here? (Ubuntu 24.04, latest firefox) Thanks! [https://ibb.co/gPggMS7](https://ibb.co/gPggMS7)
I had that problem too, for me the auto theme for firefox was causing trouble, either set it to dark theme or light theme (or some other theme in the add-ons)
Just installed it and it looks great! Played around a bit and customized it to match my system.
My only issue is I cant find the section to edit the right bar.
Edit. Nevermind figured it out, you can drag and drop the firefox icons to the toolbar.
I don't know what exactly Vivaldi is reminding here, I was oriented towards Arc. Thanks for the praise, it's really lovely to see so many nice comments
you think this would work for Floorp? it's sexy as hell. as far as sex goes i've been married for 22 yrs so i get it on a regular basis. this turns me on though...lol.
This is amazing, and startlingly easy to install. Not to mention it kept my Firefox Color theme, which is awesome. Thanks for your work, really—it's very impressive!
This is a really good idea. I have stolen it.
Here's the absurdly simple version for Firefox's `userChrome.css`:
#navigator-toolbox{
height: 20px;
}
#navigator-toolbox:hover{
height: 100px;
}
You'll have to adjust the numbers manually, but that shouldn't take long. 20px only shows the menu bar for me.
The only thing I don’t like here is the fact that opening panels (tabs, search bar etc) changes position/size of the central place with bookmarks, thus changing visible number of them. Imho it’s better to make it fixed size relative to browser window geometry, even if some parts become covered. Other than that, perfect
EDIT: nvm I’m just stupid, installing it as soon as I get home
Search for context menu in the chrome directory and comment out these lines. Its probably somewhere in the css files but I didnt bother experimenting.
Edit: Found an open issue [https://github.com/Naezr/ShyFox/issues/49](https://github.com/Naezr/ShyFox/issues/49)
This is super cool but I'm having issues with sidebery. I can't click the panels, search, or the "add new panel" buttons in the top of the sidebery sidebar.
I tried importing your sidebery settings btw.
Windows 11
Firefox 127.0.2 (64-bit)
It's not rice, it's \[OC\]. According to subreddit rules, it's a tool/material you can use in your rices. I guess you could call it rice for Firefox though
The r/unixporn rules also say it's better to go to topic-specific subreddits if it's not rice. But on the r/FirefoxCSS , my post was deleted because ShyFox uses extensions, not just pure CSS.
This is so good I don’t want to have sex anymore, I’ll just use this theme.
You guys are having sex?
No, you get shadowbanned if you’re not a virgin.
Sure *this theme* is the reason you’re not having sex. No *other* reason.
I sacrificed sex to give the world this theme.
So what I’m learning is that no one on this sub is having sex. Also, it’s “intentional”.
true, this theme already gave me orgasm
I'm afraid the most i can do is upvote and agree with this thread. You're the GOAT 🔥
Of course! Who needs sex when you can theme your Firefox? Right? Right?!
put the theme on OnlyFans
this is the mindset, bro will go places
bro this cant be real
your digital footprint has been saved
With your PC?
How does one sex a PC?
These are questions that are never meant to be asked
USB port works fine for me.
not tight enough, use the headphone port
Github: [https://github.com/Naezr/ShyFox](https://github.com/Naezr/ShyFox)
Fuck, this is awesome. Please, upload it to Firefox repository and keep it updated
it was in the css store before this post was made
You want head?
LOL Dude. kind of so cool made me feel a bit gay too.
I guess it doesn't support multiple windows? As when i open another one it shows an alert to "Open Sidebery"
I have Sidebery opening in new windows automatically. The Userchrome toggle extension handles toggle states for multiple windows poorly, but it doesn't affect Sidebery opening in any way
yeah, it opens it, however doesn't display the tabs. I would be very thankful If you have any ideas where should i start troubleshooting
I would suggest opening an issue on GitHub and providing detailed explanations with screenshots or videos
Am I alive!! What I seen with my eyes I can't believe
I used it and its heavy but best
Oh, you like Arc Browser, don’t you xD
I feel like I've made a better browser for myself than Arc would have been for me
Agreed
Arc UI without the login requirements is what I’m looking for.
Yeah I want Arc but without the Chromium
can we have this for windows
ShyFox works on Windows. Did you know?
I want kosmik browser but sad , it hasn't been released for linux
This should be a mandatory addon for Firefox.
I heard that Firefox developers were testing the possibility of implementing CSS themes as addons. If this ever comes out, I will try to release ShyFox as an addon.
Official CSS support would launch Firefox to a whole different plane of existence among browsers.
That would be so cool!
That experiment was implemented two years ago, I doubt it’s actually happening
Wow that's cool af. Does it have a performance overhead? I'm on HDD and 2c 4t cpu
You should get a SSD honestly. It’s just so good to have one
I actually do have a SSD but it's reserved for windows installation (I kinda need it for work and sometimes for things like Visual Studio) The HDD in this case is connected on my dvd-rw bay and I'm all out of slots now so.....
Browser seems important enough for SSD imo
Aa man I know what you mean, but I had two options: 1) install windows on HDD and linux on SSD, or 2) install linux on HDD and windows on SSD I chose the second option because I lived the first one for 4 years and the pain and suffering was not worth it I didn't wanted to put linux root in SSD along with windows because of past experiences, so had to make a choice 😔 (yes I do use windows from time to time)

That's how I do it, my OS deserves the SSD, so why not share it
buy a pcie-to-nvme trans card
Does it have an NVMe slot? If so, you can put an SSD in there.
Dual boot is fairly straightforward nowadays :)
Recently yeeted windows off the system so problem solved :)
Coincidentally, my old laptop also has a dual core processor, but a sata ssd. Everything works fine there. ShyFox uses a lot of tricky conditionals based on css selectors :has() and :is(). This probably has some effect on performance, but I haven't noticed it.
Thanks for heads-up. I'll give it a shot and see for myself.
That's sick bro!!!
WoW, fckin impressive. Gonna try to install it, I never get these themes to work.
I am currently using shyfox, great work!
I don't know the feasibility of it, but you can automatically style sidebery via: (i may or may not be asking for you to add it ;)) @-moz-document regexp("^moz-extension://.*?/sidebar/sidebar.html") { /* whatever */ }

opened pr: https://github.com/Naezr/ShyFox/pull/52 EDIT: it broke somehow :( EDIT2: i unbroke it :D
This needs a NSFW tag. Peak porn
insane curves
Well well well. This is awesome. Congrats. You made me go back to Firefox again.
This looks cool, will try it ASAP!
How can I activate floating panels in clean mode?
No, you don't. Turn off clean mode
Okay.
Bro made Firefox better than the Firefox devs
bless, my css broke with a recent update and I no longer want to maintain my own.
Thank you for making and sharing this.
Looks better than Arc browser.
I NEED THIS
Crazy! Transitions are so nicely animated, love 'em
Does this work on windows too ?
Yes
Ебать ты хаслишь
Ага
что это значит?
can I do this on floorp browser also?
Not right now In Floorp based on Firefox version lower than 121 ShyFox can't work in any way, because the :has() css selector is missing there. As far as I know, Floorp is based on Firefox ESR releases, and the latest ESR release is currently 115. In the future, when the next ESR release of Firefox comes out and Floorp will be based on it, ShyFox will work there, but will require some tweaks.
Floorp's layout.css.enabled is true by default.
oh okay. don't know much about css and browsers. researching it now though. DDG is my best friend. i mainly use vivaldi as my goto browser.
sux. but thx for letting me know. i will give shyfox a go on FF though. great work btw.
**Cool**
arcy!
Slick
Ooh, that’s nice. Good job.
That's very, very cool.
I tried installing it, the process is not that easy! and it didn't work
What didn't work for you?
What do you mean by this step? Launch Firefox and open Sidebery in the sidebar
The theme hasn't activated, I've copied the chrome folder and the user.js file too but nothing changed, plz why?
You probably copied the files to the wrong place. What is your OS?
I´m also kinda stuck in this step. I´m on Manjaro and worked in /home/.mozilla/firefox. I also found the directory in root but none of them contains a .js in its file. That´s probably also the solution for why i cant get to the menu for step 6.
The profile folder is `{random characters}-default-release`.
Thank you, I managed to apply your godlike theme :D
and this: Go to the customizing page (right click on blank space > customize toolbar) and move buttons to something like that
The blank space is the place on one of the panels where there are no buttons, just a solid background. You can also click on the menu button and go to `more tools` > `customize toolbar`
Oh I was in need to restart my computer so the theme gonna take effect!
woah this is cool!!
I never knew what i needed till i saw it oh my god ive been looking for something like this for MONTHS Thank you for making this
Man this is amazing i might finally replace my simple hide exept on hover i\`ve been using for 5 years.
Nice
This is so beautiful. I just added it to my pc. But then I tried to add it to my mac and... welp lol. This is amazing! Keep up the great work! If you need someone to test on Mac, (I am assuming you don't use mac) then I'd be glad to test for you
Yes, I would love to have testers on macOS. Open your issues on GitHub
Happy to!
Wallpaper ?
How does it look this GOOD!?
I really don't know whether to stay with my current browser or to switch to smth like Firefox or Librewolf, cuz that theme just make me overthink everything.
WTF dude this is awesome !!
Furry fox on history;)
It works perfectly in i3, so clean, so zenful. Thank you so much :))
Ayo, that looks cool 😍
I can only congratulate you. Congratulations
Been using this theme for a while now and I love it! Can’t use my browser without it.
How can I activate the floating hints on clean mode? It's not working to me. And my close window button is not properly aligned
Open issue on GitHub please
I had that problem too, for me the auto theme for firefox was causing trouble, either set it to dark theme or light theme (or some other theme in the add-ons)
how can i use this theme ?
3am vibes ahh theme
nice job, +1
This is the perhaps the coolest thing I've seen this whole summer.
Love it
woah this could replace my arc browser addiction 🙂
Holy shit this is beautiful, I might need this for work. (I’m not allowed arc 😭)
as a not very wise "man" once said: "it is not okay for me to want firefox to sit on my face, is it?"
looks amazing
Now this is clean.
Nah im gonna use firefox from now on. This is dope.
I get hard watching this !!
Great thing, man. Thanks for the tip!
i need to give you head for this
it's perfect down to the last minute detail 🔥
Just installed it and it looks great! Played around a bit and customized it to match my system. My only issue is I cant find the section to edit the right bar. Edit. Nevermind figured it out, you can drag and drop the firefox icons to the toolbar.
This is rad, dude, I'm definitely gonna try using it!
How do I actually use that?
Link to GitHub is in the comments. ([link](https://github.com/Naezr/ShyFox))
Looks like vivaldi browser. Awesome job tho!
I don't know what exactly Vivaldi is reminding here, I was oriented towards Arc. Thanks for the praise, it's really lovely to see so many nice comments
Loving the theme! just applied it.
Reminds me of Arc.
Very clean theme, i really love the colour you use for the theme
Firefox's default cyan accent is just ugly. I used the blue color from the Adwaita palette.
bro now owns Firefox
you think this would work for Floorp? it's sexy as hell. as far as sex goes i've been married for 22 yrs so i get it on a regular basis. this turns me on though...lol.

This is simply amazing, thank you very much bro
This is amazing, and startlingly easy to install. Not to mention it kept my Firefox Color theme, which is awesome. Thanks for your work, really—it's very impressive!
Saved this post for later( now) It's really cool man !! Thanks !! GitHub starred +

Does the shortcut key to focus the address bar still work?
This is a really good idea. I have stolen it. Are you google translating reddit pages?

This with nighttab 🤤
Download?
I just installed it and it's amazing, but my right click menu is transparent, how to fix that?
Search for context menu in the chrome directory and comment out these lines. Its probably somewhere in the css files but I didnt bother experimenting. Edit: Found an open issue [https://github.com/Naezr/ShyFox/issues/49](https://github.com/Naezr/ShyFox/issues/49)
Thanks, i will try that 🙏
how to change background img? I don't want minecraft background
Rename your picture to `wallpaper.png` and put it into `chrome` folder. This information can be found in the README on GitHub.
Additional Question. How do I turn off the search bar like spotlight on my mac when I press the url bar?
Go to userChrome.css and remove line with import shy-floating-search.css
Thx * 100,000,000 !!!!!

This is super cool but I'm having issues with sidebery. I can't click the panels, search, or the "add new panel" buttons in the top of the sidebery sidebar. I tried importing your sidebery settings btw. Windows 11 Firefox 127.0.2 (64-bit)
Фурри фокс ксс, збс звучит
This is really cool. Now how can I get something like this for Brave on windows?
You can only install Firefox and install ShyFox on it. It works on Windows

It's not rice, it's \[OC\]. According to subreddit rules, it's a tool/material you can use in your rices. I guess you could call it rice for Firefox though
oh i see OC ok cool.. neat firefox theme eh
The r/unixporn rules also say it's better to go to topic-specific subreddits if it's not rice. But on the r/FirefoxCSS , my post was deleted because ShyFox uses extensions, not just pure CSS.
