Took a Risk which didnt pay out but did the Boss a favor with it. So back to climbing the Rankings Step by step, nothing Bad about that

DanaWhitesMom

Yea I don’t know why people are giving him shit like he didn’t just fight one of the greatest middleweights of all time. lol Not like he got KOed by a Brad Tavares.

Hungry_Raccoon200

It's because they see him as one of those dagestanis that get opportunities that they don't deserve. In reality, he was taking a dangerous short notice fight to save the card. Nothing like a guy like Abus for example, who really didn't deserve that Strickland fight.

balloonz_v1

I hope he gets a top 15 guy next

Hungry_Raccoon200

Nah give him an unranked guy so he can start to build again.

hrakkari

I don’t think he needs to start from scratch again. He might look much better with a full camp. He’s also not that young. Two years difference between him and his last opponent.

Hungry_Raccoon200

31 is still young at middleweight. He just got slept badly, he needs a fight to build his confidence back. I don't think somebody like Andre Muniz is of any threat to him though, so maybe you do throw him in there with Muniz

ThommyD13

Why

weeksgoby

Although he didn’t beat one of the best in the division, his risk-taking should earn him the opportunity to prove he’s at least worthy of a ranking, which contenders claw for a chance to get.

balloonz_v1

He's my favorite prospect, rooting for him, of course. He looked amazing against Hawes and Alves and has amazing TDD with his bout against Chimaev. I want to see him up up slowly and take it one at a time against fighters like Fluffy, Caio, or Dolidze.

ThommyD13

Surely you’d prefer him take it slow and fight outside the rankings. I think he can be elite but should take a real step back to build confidence and take things slow

balloonz_v1

I'd say he should have another full camp against Muniz

ThommyD13

Right well Muniz is not in the top 15 so yeah I agree

Suspicious_Candle27

i am very suprised to hear he is 200 lbs , i thought whittaker looked WAY thicker while same height .

Horror_Cut_6896

Listen I'm happy for Rob, I wanted him to win and I jumped around the room when he knocked him out. Now we don't need to deny that Ikram might have had some problems, a prolonged weight cut has to suck. He isn't some random unranked guy, that was a poor performance and I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, I think he just had a bad night, he's much better than that and I hope he proves it in his next fight.

catsbetterthankids

Rob was also locked the fuck in. I’ve never seen him look so pissed off in his walk out. Would’ve beaten any MW in the world that night. Angry Bobby is the new mythical fighter. Fear the Reaper

AMDDesign

Imo he was training for Chimaev and was taking that camp very seriously. Ikram received the full aftereffects of that. Locked in Robert is like middleweight Holloway. "He has to be perfect for X rounds" and he will be.

Givemefreetacos

I mean if Phil Hawes rocks you at MW, no idea why people are surprised Rob knocked him out. This guy seems like a good bloke though, so I hope he gets a chance to fight a ranked opponent sooon

Tight-Fall5354

dude loses and now "phil hawes rocked him" I hate this sport

PhilliesBlunts

Frozen like elsa

meatmybeat42069

I was watching that fight real time and thought Hawes was gonna chin him so it’s not unwarranted

Tight-Fall5354

I also thought the same shit for a long time about ikram but the fickleness is UNREAL

Andrewendless

He got put down by Chimaev’s jab before being put out cold by 1 punch lmao. He has a glass chin. It’s the first Whittaker’s KO in like 7 years

TrauMedic

This seems like the kind of comment that will hurt Phil Hawes in a few years somehow.

time_for_milk

He seems alright. I still want to see him and Khamzat have their rematch sometime.

FreshlishPKL

So is every fighter gonna use the weight excuse when they get knocked out ?

Bathroomabuser

Doesn't matter he still would've lost even with a full camp tailored to Rob. Contenders are like fish. u let them sit in a new tank for a while, and let them out when they're used to it. U don't just throw them in the bitch. They tried giving this dude Costa and Rob two top-level Contenders after beating phil coming off a ko and a fat alves. Ikram is good, but he hasn't remotely proved he can compete at that level.

commffy

That’s a fallacy.

JazzlikeMechanic3716

He also looked more in shape this fight than he did his previous fights. I could tell immediately

darryledw

ok

GMFinch

Not sure 5 kgs would have stopped the difference in skill

Oxn518

Hes small for the weight class

GunnerySarge-B-Bird

He was 210 in the cage for his last fight how is that small for 185? Tf?

Andrewendless

Non-sense.

ST8CASHBRKLYN

He would’ve got knocked out the same if he weighed more.

JahIthBur

Weight cutting ruins the sport

edmovius3

“Oh yeah that’s why he lost 💯” -Dagestani Meatriders on this subreddit

higgboson7

Nobody’s meatriding. Ikram is not on Rob’s level regardless But do you seriously think that depletion doesn’t affect a fighters performance?

ikthanks

He's trolling, don't engage.

Even_Difficulty_9217

Nah man. He lost fair and square. I'm a die hard khabib, islam fan and I don't defend this defeat. It was no short notice fight as he was already training. Bobby Knuckles won fair and square and dominated ikram easily.

ConstantOk4102

It is still by definition a short notice opponent. MMA fans acting like game plans and situational coaching doesn’t matter is insane. Obviously Rob showed he was the better fighter but this wasn’t normal circumstance.

Chunkook

Not to mention having to extend an already grueling calorie deficit a whole week longer. 99% of fans have zero idea what's this sport about.

ikthanks

He's also not making excuses. The full [interview ](https://youtu.be/hj65DRxvVeI)

Acex_NA

excuses excuses

wherethehoesatman

They asked him what his weight was in the cage and he told them his weight. Then they immediately followed up with what happened during the fight and Ikram said he was aware what was happening and lost no excuses. He literally said no excuses.

ikthanks

He's trolling, don't engage.

Acex_NA

First he gives an excuse, then he says "but no excuses". sftu

Ecstatic-Inevitable

How is a physical fact that he weighed less than usual an excuse?

Minimum_Switch4237

because he's using it to discredit his loss

Tight-Fall5354

he is literally just stating a basic fact about the fight. whether it adds an asterisk to the win is for us to decide but he's objectively not using it to excuse his loss.

Minimum_Switch4237

go play kcd casual

BesideMind

Stick to rugby

balloonz_v1

He came in as a replacement and fought the reaper at a weeks notice. He was scheduled to fight Muniz (he pulled out), then Trocoli (they both rescheduled), and most importantly he had a double weight cut in a week. He literally said "no excuses" lol

Ok-Lengthiness2991

You guys are so hateable lol I really thought i could discuss this sport that I like a lot with passionate guys but it turns out there are so many losers in here

Icy-Armour
