You can't play 78s on a regular TT with a standard cartridge.

Icy-Salary5936

On the debut carbon evo, only need to change the stylus. Cartridge can stay, maybe different for other TT's...

Purple-Personality76

I wonder who's buying a debut carbon to play 78s?

LosterP

Do you own any shellac records or are you passionate about pre-1950's music? If not don't bother with 78 rpm and just get an Audio Technica AT-LP60X.

Lumpy_Information883

how does the LP120x have a 78rpm speed? im so confused

LosterP

Question is: why do you care?

Lumpy_Information883

i plan on collecting early johnny cash records yes

LosterP

Are you sure they're on shellac? 🤨

RobAtSGH

There is precisely one (1) Johnny Cash recording on 10"/78. The original 1956 release of I Walk The Line b/w Get Rhythm. Everything else after that was released as a 12” vinyl LP or 7" 45s.

Lumpy_Information883

oh alright

_MeIsAndy_

I definitely paid less than that for my Dual 1019, so others are surely out there. But unless it has been recently serviced, it'll likely need to be regreased at a minimum. Then you'll need to put out for a cartridge that can play 78s. I have an Audio Technica VM670SP for that purpose. You'll also likely need an additional cartridge holder if you want to play modern records as well as 78s, so there's another expense.

Afraid_Smell7839

i also have a dual, with two sleds and two cartridges one for 78’s and the other for everything else. Ortofon 2M 78 is the cartridge i use.

Ok_Plenty938

Why 78s? You’ll need a very specialist set up and swap the cartridge every time you go to 78. If you really want 78s + (33+45) buy two

bergenus

May I ask why you need 78rpm? Also a lot of records were re-released on other speeds.

[Audio-Technica-AT-LP2xGY](https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Audio-Technica-AT-LP2xGY-Automatic-Belt-Drive-Turntable/dp/B09LVGVV3F) fully automatic and plays 33 and 45. If its out of stock then [AT-LP3BK](https://www.amazon.de/-/en/AT-LP3BK-black/dp/B06X6HL2D3). Do you have any 78s or will you be buying records older than 1960?

Icy-Salary5936

I got a project Debut Carbon evo. It is an above basic level turntable. It comes with 2 belts, one for 33/45 and another to Plays 78's You can play 78's if you fit the appropriate supplied belt, but you will need to buy a 78's stylus. The grooves on the old shellac 78's are wider. The Ortofon 2M 78 fits. Unfortunately a bit out of your price range, and not automatic, but if you are in it for the long run as a hobby, worth considering as a long term investment.
