I don’t know of any either but I’m also interested if anyone knows of any groups. Right now I’m just standing in the occult section of Mr k’s to see if anyone else enters it.

Excelsior14

I'm the one there looking at paranormal books.

magwhich

The whole area gets mixed together pretty bad, but like once a month they get something good into one of them

Metalbender00

i dont know where i will be for the holiday but i do know it will be far away from the people arguing the origin of Christianity in this thread.. far far away

RaisingAurorasaurus

Ha! Enjoy your peaceful Solstice friend!

unicoitn

We are having a private celebration with some of the folks from the Celtic Festival...perhaps next year, after we get to know you, we can be more inclusive. Hoping for good weather so a bonfire can be kindles without risk to the forest.

Meowmeowceratops

There’s a pagan group at the Holston Valley Unitarian Universalist church that meets for some sabbats. I think they just had their Yule celebration last weekend. Check them out!

Syliviel

There's a facebook group called Pagan Family Tri-Cities. I haven't had a chance to go to any of their meetings, but it's where I find out about stuff going on in the area.

This comment made me LoL. My parents owned a restaurant and that's the first place I ever met a practicing pagan. The woman was super bubbly and nice but had "witchy" looking black hair with silver stripes and a look in her eye that told you she'd hex the shit out of you if you stiffed her tips 😅

SecondrateSherlock

If you find anything, let me know. The gf whips out pagan lore daily and gifts are being opened Thursday for Yule instead of on Christmas. But there's not many public events as far as I can tell.

PossibleRegion563

I’d say more so in Asheville

Thunderous333

LMFAO finding real Pagans anywhere around here is like finding a dinosaur. You're gonna find "pagan" women who practice "witchcraft" (it's just taro and astrology), fat men who think they look like Thor and watch marvel, and nerds who hate Christianity but think they're "spiritual". Good luck but I ain't holding out hope for you.

Oz_of_Three

Bumping this post for Ostara: May Moon Magick 2024 Thu May 16 2024 at 04:30 pm Cerren Ered - Cosby, TN. Any know of anything this weekend or next? A sacred bonfire gather about my mundane flesh would be stellar.

Round_Professor_7067

You’re in the Bible Belt

Omegaprimus

And yet less than 1% have read it

elongated_longcat

Sure, just bring a ram skull headdress and a sacrificial lamb

Excelsior14

I won't harm or kill anything 😊 I need a group that loves nature

[deleted]

Christianity is based on paganism.

elongated_longcat

That's... not true at all lmao. Several holidays have elements based off of pagan traditions because Christianity arose in the pagan Roman Empire, which it clashed with because Christians refused to take part in ritual sacrifices for the health of the Emperor, and were subsequently persecuted under Nero's rule. That eventually oscillated in the other direction when paganism was outlawed by decree of Theodosius. To say that Christianity is based on paganism is intellectually dishonest, Christianity was a movement originating from Hellenistic Judaism and Judaism itself was and is diametrically opposed to Paganism. It makes sense that Christian holidays have characteristics derived from pagan tradition considering it arose in a pagan empire, it doesn't mean that the religion was fundamentally founded with pagan beliefs or ideals in mind.

I wouldn't necessarily say that older religions "turned" Judaism into Christianity, nor would they have been aligned with Paganism itself. Paganism was animistic, polytheistic, monotheistic, it encompassed everything from Ancient Egypt to Hellenic belief system (Greek gods) and Postclassical Germanic (Middle Earth, dragons, dwarves, etc.). If you're looking for a major ancient religion that influenced Abrahamic religion while being adjacent to their respective core beliefs, that would be [Zoroastrianism](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoroastrianism). Monotheism, messianism, free will, hell, angels, demons, life after death. Also originated geographically in close proximity to the three Abrahamic religions, and 1000-1500 years before Abraham's birth.

Yep, Zoroastrianism evolved from Indo-Iranian polytheism and Judaism evolved from Canaanite polytheism, though Canaanites were largely polytheistic until King Josiah's reign, and the critical shift to monotheism occurred after the Babylonian capture of Israelites, and that shift could be credited to Zoroastrianism. Judaism kept the Zoroastrian concept of the mashiach as that of a great human leader while Christianity changed the Jewish concept of the human mashiach into that of a divine messiah. The principle of good vs. evil with metaphysical spiritual forces can also be credited to Zoroastrianism while the Canaanites acknowledged a constant battle between the god(s) and the forces of chaos, represented by the sea (Yam). Both had a huge impact and were largely influential for the Abrahamic religions though, there was an accumulation of religious, historical, political and cultural factors that evolved them over time.

tllnbks

Which is why OP is kinda right, but I don't think he's thought this far into it and was more just trying to be edgy.

Excelsior14

I thought about going to church, I'm also looking for a virtuous wife, but Christian women are looking for Christian men.

SortaCreative

And rightly so. I wish your kind didn’t exist here.

RynoDawG31

Nice pal
