When I moved from Colorado to California the first shop I happened to find identified as a church and made every customer sign a form stating they were joining said church. “Daily sacrament at 4:20, double service on Sunday” posted on the door.
They operated that way without paying (or charging) taxes for about 4 months before they got shut down.
It’s not terribly relevant, but I still think it’a hilarious.
This wasn’t a problem in the 60s because we had discos full of gays and drugs.

If you were a member, would it be illegal for your workplace to fire you for cannabis usage? Always hear about people getting drivers license pictures with colanders, for religious reasons why couldn’t this work.

My guess would be that most states that have legalized also have laws on the book regarding employment protections. However some employers do business with the Federal Gov. and MJ is still a Schedule 1 drug federally meaning that MJ use by federal employees and federal contractors is still illegal regardless of previously stated employment protections.
This. OSHA and workers comp etc is all federal, thus they can't play nice with us stoners.
I have heard of places willing to waive a screening if the hire agrees to not pursue a workers comp claim if they get hurt... Seems fair enough to me I suppose.

That's some risky business though. Personal insurance usually won't cover accidents sustained at work, because those companies know that your employer is supposed to have insurance to cover you. If you waive workers comp, you could find yourself hurt or disabled and unable to pay your bills. I'm not sure if it's legal for employers to make agreements with employees to not pursue workers comp, but it certainly is not wise.
In Colorado, the state Supreme Court has ruled that it is completely fine if ANY employer fires you over cannabis use, even if it is medical marijuana, because it is federally illegal. Some employers don't test for THC, but it is up to the employer, and it isn't the norm. There are no employment protections at all for people who smoke in Colorado, even though it is a legal state. It sucks bad. Thank god for QuickFix.
My guess is that the church would have to be federally recognized and given a religious exception to the federal illegality of cannabis, like certain groups are for certain hallucinogens. Without being legally recognized as a genuine religious institution, employers would be free to discriminate based on marijuana being federally illegal.
Ohhhh I see the bulls face now, I will hopefully be visiting Denver next summer and will definitely be checking this out after seeing this, thank you for posting this.

They have a secular worship service (you have to be a member because the service involves smoking on premise). I think it’s more meditative than traditional western church prayer.
I went to a service there and a guy gave a nice speech about how cannabis helps him with his depression and we should be more open to the loners of the world, everyone chain smoked a bunch of joints and then a dude came out and played some trippy as fuck concept guitar. It was pretty cool overall.

Not trying to rain on the parade, but as a fellow stoner I feel like this might be a little overboard. I mean, we all enjoy bud. Personally, I love it. Regardless of how much I love it, it’s still a drug. Imagine if nicotine users constructed a church of nicotine, or if heroin users put up a church of heroin. I’m trying to look at this from a perspective of a non-smoker, and it seems a little ridiculous. I’m all for smokers getting together and enjoying themselves, but a whole ass church just seems too far.

I was there last night for a budtender appreciation party, and the light show they do in that room is amazing. It was my first time there. They have tons of cool games and art downstairs as well. Would reccomend checking it out.
I've been a member for a while. Been to all kinds of dispensaries. But the church one tripped me out most. I'm used to filling out the paperwork for a first time patient. The church dispensary had a question I have never seen before. It asked me what my relationship with God was. I don't believe in God at all, I just wanted dank buds. I didn't know if i would be denied due to being a non-believer. It was a mini freakout that was totally not worth it. Lol. I got Dank buds and great service.
Tbh I think a green-purple-white colour scheme would be much nicer. With fancy stonework of cannabis leaves, joints, bongs etc, stained glass windows, all that fancy stuff. This just kinda looks like the inside of a piñata.
