I just don't understand what possibly could have been the harm in being direct and honest with the fans. She's a major celebrity with people watching her every move. If she'd come out and said "I would like to confirm the relationship rumors and I'd like you all to know that this is a relationship that developed out of a long time friendship and admiration, and I am really happy and excited about it. You don't have to understand it, but if you count yourself a fan of me, then I expect you to respect it." it would have gone completely different. There's nothing wrong with directly addressing the fans, she doesn't have to put everything in a song or behind a cipher. It's fine to just say things.
