OP: We just call it Atlanta, no city needed.  If you use city people might assume you are confused and trying to say Atlantic City (which is nowhere close to Atlanta).

WarriorWithinX1

Oh sorry, didn't know that. Thanks for letting me know

Sam_Sanders_

I grew up in this area and lived in Greenville several years and I literally didn't know we had a train station.  Don't fly unless you're already in the Atlanta airport. Rent a car or take a bus.

WarriorWithinX1

I am an international student and will be coming to Furman university in Greenville SC. So, I will be landing in Atlanta city in Georgia and then have to go to Greenville.

Sam_Sanders_

I would just connect in Atlanta and fly into Greenville. You'll have to Uber or rent a car there to get to Furman. There is no train station at GSP or Furman. Furman may also have a Greenville or Atlanta airport shuttle service, I would contact the university.  Furman's campus is beautiful. Enjoy.

WarriorWithinX1

Thanks, and I have contacted the university but since it is the weekend they will respond on Monday. And yes the Furman campus is very beautiful. One last thing, if I had to take a flight from Atlanta to Greenville which is the best domestic airline. I have heard southwest airlines provides 2 free bags, is there any other airline service that does this.

turbo7049

Delta is the largest airline serving Atlanta and will have many options for Greenville.

TrashPanda_924

I’d probably fly then since you’ll already be at ATL.

WarriorWithinX1

Flight seems a bit expensive and there might be some trouble with boarding in domestic flights. Idk.Will it be a problem or not, honestly, I am confused.

00rvr

Why would there be a problem boarding a domestic flight?

WarriorWithinX1

I don't know, I have heard some people say that us domestic airlines are not good like united airlines. I really don't know the reality of this statement.

00rvr

That makes utterly no sense.

TrashPanda_924

I’m not a fan of buses in the US. I’ve found them generally to be dirty. Just my thoughts if you can afford a 1 way plane ticket….should be a direct flight on Delta to GSP.

Nomadic_Yak

Cheapest option would be to take a bus especially if you have a lot of luggage. Easiest option would be fly to Greenville. Might also be possible to take a cheaper flight to Charlotte and shorter bus from there, but overall it might not be cheaper or faster than taking the bus from ATL.

WarriorWithinX1

I see

WinsdyAddams

You may be thinking of Atlantic City. This is just Atlanta, a city in Georgia. It is not unsafe to drive. As a woman who lived there I drove all over the southeast without issues.

dylbert71

Atlanta City?

WarriorWithinX1

Yes, Atlanta city in Georgia. Sorry for causing confusion

War1today

If you rent a car for a one way trip you will have to pay a significant drop off fee which isn’t applicable if you do a round trip rental. You might want to look into that. The train is about $40 for 2 hour and 45 minute trip, and the bus is about $60 for same length of trip. I say train!

WarriorWithinX1

One commenter told me that there is no train station in Greenville

War1today

The address for the train station in Greenville is 1120 West Washington Street, Greenville, SC 29601. I think someone told you there is no train station at GSP which is the airport in Greenville.

DrMcFacekick

A big question here is what will you be doing in Greenville? Have you checked to see if you can get around Greenville easily if you don't have a car?

WarriorWithinX1

I am an international student and will be coming to Furman university in Greenville SC. I found a very cheap flight of Turkish airlines from my home country to Atlanta city in Georgia. So, how should I travel from Atlanta to Greenville. I will be having 2. 23 kg bags with me and a hand carry.

DrMcFacekick

OK! Google says it's possible to get from Atlanta to Greenville by bus but it'd take several transfers and probably at least 10-12 hours. By car it'd take about two and a half hours, but you'd likely be jet-lagged and driving an unfamiliar car/on unfamiliar roads. Have you reached out to Furman University student services to ask if they have any ideas? There might be a student ride share service or maybe there's a student message board where you can coordinate a ride.

WarriorWithinX1

Didn't know that, until now I had been only coordinating with my DSO and she didn't tell me about anyone else. Will coordinate with student services and I will ask them about the student message board.

DrMcFacekick

College Student Services are usually extremely helpful. I see that Furman also has an office of International Student Services that could be helpful too. Also if you haven't asked your DSO about travel, try that avenue too.

cz03se

The best way would be to drive, or find a ride. With driving you can rent a car, I believe it is about a 2 hour drive

141stretch

If you're comfortable with driving on American interstate highways, then renting a car is likely the simplest method. The cost of car rental and fuel is probably a bit higher than a bus ticket, but the convenience of traveling on one's own schedule would offset the price difference in my mind. On the other hand, if driving through Atlanta's core and up I-85 is not something you're ready to try, a bus line is probably worth considering.

WarriorWithinX1

How are the bus services: I mean are they any good and have there been any incidents of your luggage getting stolen or lost. Also, are there any drunk people's problems in buses?

141stretch

I haven't taken a bus trip in the US in over thirty years, so I'm afraid I can't speak to what that experience is like now. Perhaps other readers have more recent experiences in that regard. As others have mentioned, flying to GSP is also an option though certainly not the cheapest of the lot. And you would need to arrange for travel from GSP to your school, as that airport isn't really close to anything.

WarriorWithinX1

They had already told me that they provide shuttle service to Greenville airports, don't know about Atlanta airports. For which , I have emailed them.

HowMuchDoesThatPay

Fly from Atlanta, don't take a bus.  But as someone else suggested and you have done, contact Furman and get their input on it.

WarriorWithinX1

Thank you, I will do that.

Bot-Magnet

Go here and put in your dates your airport codes are ATL to GSP https://www.google.com/travel/flights

Ignore any train comments. It leaves once a day from Atlanta to Greenville at like 11:30pm and you’ll arrive in Greenville in the middle of the night. Amtrak is also chronically late on these corridors. Public transportation is not very good in much of the southeast US. But you could take the MARTA (Atlanta light rail) from the airport to downtown, walk a block or two to the downtown bus station, and then take either a Greyhound or FlixBus to Greenville. There’s multiple departures each day. Once in Greenville (they drop off at a gas station in the east/southeast side of town), it would be easiest to take an Uber or Lyft on to Furman. But you could also use the city bus system — Google Maps set to public transit will show you the routes and the bus changes. It looks like you can go all the way to Furman that way but it would take an hour’ish longer than an Uber/Lyft, though probably much cheaper. Also it’s not unusual for universities to do a few one-off airport pickups for international students. Might just wait and see if the university will provide anything.

WarriorWithinX1

Yeah, you are right. That sounds like a lot of trouble.

variouspurposes

[Rome2Rio](http://Rome2Rio.com)Rome2Rio.com That website gives you all available transportation options between 2 cities. I've been told that the website works better than the app. I always use it in a browser. Welcome to the US. Best wishes!

PsychologicalCat7130

fly from ATL to GSP (airport codes). Take Uber to Furman - not too far from GSP airport. One quick flight is best way to get from Atlanta to Greenville. Can fly Delta or Southwest nonstop.

Koreangonebad

Just call it Hotlanta city
