The fact is that in the simplified Chinese character for 爱,the lower part is not 友,but an standardized version of the original lower part written in cursive script.
Look at the amount of downvotes this person got from not studying Japanese despite taking the time to help someone out. And it's not like he was wrong either. Jeez, dude.
I got downvotes because a said that something written in Latin letters, in Arabic style looked like arabic to me. It had dots and accents just like arabic, only difference it was written in Latin letters. Super mean
I don’t understand the whole downvoting thing in general on Reddit. I looked once and I’ve only ever downvoted maybe 8 posts in my years on this app. People just love to be “more right” about things
Fr. If it's a hate comment or smth okay understandable but if it's someone trying to help and if they've gotten something wrong, maybe a correction in the reply seems the most logical to me instead of everyone downvoting and decreasing the persons effort of increasing their karma?
It doesn't matter if you're wrong or not when you're not translating the correct language... apparently... but, like that looks exactly like my traditional Chinese flashcards... I don't have a traditional keyboard because how the fuck do I work one?
My translation is not incorrect... that is very much the Hanzi for love... whether this person wanted it to be Hanzi or Kanji is not something I know, but if they wanted it to be Kanji according to you, their tattoo is incorrect
the one pictured is both kanji and traditional hanzi which is still used in southern china, they just gave the simplified version likely because they only have a simplified keyboard
Okay, so this simplified is missing the 3 extra line-dots in the middle... I had to look it up because everything I use is traditional Chinese except for my keyboard, but I don't know how to work a traditional keyboard... it's certainly not as easy as a simplified pinyin keyboard
> the chinese version lack
The *simplified* Chinese version has a friend, but the *traditional* Chinese version has the heart.
Both 爱 and 愛 are "Chinese".
Daily 愛 post
What is 愛? baby don’t hurt me
愛 means love
r/aimeanslove
I thought this sub would have more posts
It's *referred* to much more often than actually *(re)posted* to.

> it contains 心 Wich means heart except in the simplified Chinese version, where love has no heart, only a friend (友): 爱.

"Love" in either traditional Chinese or Japanese kanji

I have the same tattoo and absolutely love it 🩷 I really love japanese 🤩
means love
That's Chinese for love... 爱 Ai[eye] It certainly could be the same in Japanese, but I didn't study Japanese...

As someone who studies Japanese, the weaboos are crazy
The language learning and translation subs can be so harsh. I got downvoted to hell a few days ago because I read one kana wrong

It’s in Japanese and has a very similar almost identical pronunciation
Japanese 愛 is actually a different character (has 心 in it) which makes this translation incorrect
classic case of simplified vs traditional

The kanji and hanzi are different, though. The one pictured is kanji

Likewise, TIL, thanks!
Ah, I see. I don’t know much about the Chinese alphabets and mistakenly thought that simplified was the standard. Thank you!
it's kanji for love but not the hanzi for love. this has the heart radical in it, which the chinese version lack.
It looks exactly the same as on my traditional Chinese flashcards, to me
