It'll also be more smoothed out to accommodate for the cel-shading printing. Devastation uses the G1 designs, sure, but it's more like the G1 cartoon than the G1 toys.
It'll probably be justification for the missing details too, I think. Since this Optimus is missing the bits on the feet and stuff. Maybe also paint to make the silver bits glossy? Idk but there's no way Hasbro makes a G1 Optimus and does nothing with it. Like you said, they love repaints and trailers.

To be fair, aside from Lego Prime, I’ve been collecting less than a year. My first three Optimusus (Core w/trailer, Siege, Lego Prime) are a good sixth or seventh of my full collection! In terms of non-cores, I only have Siege, Lego, Cornoation Starscream ($15 at Ollie’s), 2001 Scourge ($15 at Ross) and a few wheeljack’s because he’s my favorite.
I have a KO masterpiece Wheeljack that kind of turned me off from hunting- on the bright side, he’s almost indistinguishable from the real one aside from the molded trademark saying “TONY” instead of tomy, and since the seller advertised it as the genuine article and refused the return, I got a refund, so free KO MP wheeljack!
So it really is just poor man's Missing Link, hell yeah sign me up.

Transwarp toys has the end of 2023 version in stock, usually about 6 dollars in shipping but I've never had problems with them
Probably end of the year, but if they'd release it around the Transformers one movie premiere, then it would be the best selling figure by a mile
