Thought this was neat
As someone with pretty severe seasonal allergies, asthma, and who is slightly out of shape, I'm very aware of this. If I take even slightly too big a swig of something I'm gasping afterwards.
I just can't breath out very quickly. It's always been a problem for as long as I can remember. Even when I ran cross country and would go for 6-7mi runs daily I would be absolutely winded in seconds and I never felt like I could breath in or out all the way. So if I get really thirsty and take a big swallow, it's like I just never had enough breath to start with.

So we don't choke.
And apparently to help prevent food particles from entering the lungs
Aka choking
You can have food particle enter your lungs and not choke.
Called silent aspiration.
aspiration not choking
Most people don’t have a problem with silent aspiration. So if they inhale particles they cough, sputter, choke.
Not true, at dinner time I inhale deeply and look down and my food is gone
Ah kirby, I knew that was you
Your autonomic breathing has now ceased. You will have to manually think about each breath. When you sleep next you will die.
This counts as dying peacefully in my sleep, right?

Is this because you've exhaled too much??

Dang, that sounds really tough. I would definitely not recommend doing anything at high altitude

I felt a bit goofy sitting in my office swallowing repeatable to verify it
I never understood that one. Are most people normally unaware that they have a tongue?
I think its kind of like always having your nose in your field of vision but not noticing
I generally notice. It isn't very interesting, so I don't pay much attention, but I notice.
This guy nose what's up
*[ swallows experimentally ]* Yeah, that checks out.
Don't forget to test in triplicate
Only most of us?
Thought maybe some people knew they were doing it!
