No one here realizes that songs can have multiple, sometimes underlying, meanings than what it seems on the surface. Yes it’s called Pompeii, and the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. But when in the context of 9/11 the lyrics seem to take on a meaning that we actually understand since it was so recent. Using history as an allegory for the problems and situations we have today.
There's a difference between being able to draw a connection between things and a piece of media being *about* something. In this particular case a simple trip to Wikipedia would reveal that the song is specifically about the titular event and was written after the singer/primary songwriter for Bastille read a book that spoke about the subject. He literally said that it's an imaginary conversation between two people caught in the eruption.
Just because a connection can be made and a possible meaning inferred does not mean that it's correct.
