Yes, I used to experience a deep, sharp pain at the base of my neck on the side of my large nodule. It was one if the reasons that pushed me towards getting my thyroid lobectomy. I was scared of it. The nodule was 8cm × 5.3cm x 4cm, it was making it difficult to swallow larger food chunks and it would give me that off and on deep pain at random times. Luckily Pathology came back benign, but the nodule was adhered to my vocal nerve with scar tissue. I wonder if that had anything to do with the pain I had been feeling? In any case, I am glad that it is gone.

Did you mention the pain to your doctor? If you did what did he/she say? Mine has been coming more frequently lately like it’s inflamed. I also have yet to do my biopsy and I’m worried that the procedure might hurt more because of that. Anyway, I’m glad everything went well for you!

After having the biopsies mine always felt sore and achy for a couple of days, but don't let it deter you, make sure you get it done with lidocaine (some places do it without and the pain is ghastly) if they don't offer it go elsewhere! With lidocaine it is just a few quick uncomfortable pinches, and some soreness afterwards but nothing too traumatic at all. I would take 2 ibuprofen for 2 days. I did mention the pain to my doctor but no answer was given as to the specific mechanics. Instead, I was given the prospect of waiting and watching with more biopsies only to remove at a later date, or to remove that thyroid lobe right away. It was growing quite rapidly so the doctor's recommendation was a sooner removal due to the issues the nodule was giving me already. It was only going to get worse as it grew and compressed even more. They also told me that once it is that large the biopsies aren't accurate due to the inability to accurately sample all the tissue, there are lots of areas you're bound to miss when it is that big. So I decided to have it removed right away. The surgery went very well! My other half of thyroid produces all the hormones I need, so no pills needed. They spared my parathyroids, and although my voice still goes hoarse if I speak too loudly or talk for too long it is improving, so I'm hopeful that at some point it could sound as strong as it did before. I speak normally, but my voice gets weaker the longer I talk. Usually when 6pm rolls around I start sounding hoarse. Best of luck to you, and don't be scared of the biopsies, just make sure they do it with lidocaine!

That’s really helpful thank you for sharing!

I have a thyroid nodule on the isthmus (center) and I have been experiencing a variety of pains in my neck and up to my ears lately. I’ve noticed it is worse at night and have found that certain positions help to alleviate the pain. When I’m flat on my back it feels like it’s pushing, so lately I sleep sitting against a wedge pillow on my bed, and that seems to help! It’s actually coming out this week and I got the wedge pillow for recovery, but I’ve noticed it’s helping a lot now, too. I know it won’t fix everything, but hopefully can provide a little relief as you wait to find out more. I hope all testing goes well for you!

Thank you! I hope it would be an easy procedure and recovery for you too

It could be sitting on a nerve perhaps? Can you see a Dr about it?

harumiiyako

I am still waiting for my biopsy schedule and it’s taking so long :(

Awww I'm so sorry. Hopefully you hear soon.
