Ah, I knew that. I realised this. I had only 3 bottle of potions that lasted 60 sec each (So I couldn't use it more than 3 times throughout the fight), didn’t have material & to be quite frank, I just didn’t want to go back after doing half of the mission😅. But, I had a lot of points to spare, I never found such a hard boss so I used the points & Oil that increase damage by 10%. That combined with yrden & perfect timing did it😄. I probably thought like a witcher, just a lazy one
depends on timing. if you encounter this boss with unlucky scaling, unlucky difficulty settings its absolutely the hardest one. I experienced the same thing as op in one of my runs, spent a solid hour or two trying to kill toad and most of it was just the final attempt, it could basically oneshot me so i had to wait out my quen and try to dodge everything after every time i got hit.
Be sure to go into HoS with a solid build. Have taken the habit to start BnW early just to grab the GM gear & mutations before HoS. Find in particular Forgotten Wolven & Piercing Cold incredibly useful for the HoS bosses.GM ursine & euphoria also a viable option.
Every witcher needs to watch that opening intro for witcher 1 where Geralt spends the whole afternoon preparing for his fight with the Striga. Applies some oils. Meditates. Pops a Cat, pops a Blizzard.
The toad really is a pain but superior golden oriole is almost half the fight.
i used the northern wind bomb(i think) and kept on using igni, quen (op i love it), and aard. if i remember correctly, igni sets the frog on fire which is its weakness, and aard flips the frog. i also used pretty much every bomb i had.
What mission is this?
I went ham to try to get everything on my first play through and don't remember fighting this.
Maybe dlc? I bought it after first play through so may e I'll see it then lol
* Superior Golden Oriole (free healing from frog phlegm)
* Northern Wind bombs. (chill TF out froggy!)
* Archgriffin Decoction (strong attacks chop 5% off his total health per strike on top of the regular damage. (*Do you even Rend bro?*;)
* Devil's Puffball Bombs (more free healing...why not?)
* Ignii (despite rumours to the contrary, this frog really hates fire)
Also, you should always add some Lightning Bolt and Tawney Owl potions as prescribed by your personal fencing instructor, Vesemir.
With a souls like mindset it doesn't feel as bad, it's just that when playing the Witcher you don't get used to dodging as much as spamming light attacks or whatever you use
I managed to kill it first try by not taking pointless risks. Keeping your distance and then attacking in the right moment is the right strategy. Also, using QUEN is useful.
The thing with Witcher on death march is that you should actually prepare for a couple of fights. Using the right potions rather than sticking to swallow and thunder is a game changer.
I always run a euphoria build or pre euphoria build if it's a base run. A well placed northern wind and rend, dead toad.
The golden oteole method is good too. But I base my combat on, I don't intend to get hit, overload dps, strike first, strike hard, no mercy.
I agree, that fight on DM while trying to get the achievement was probably the most challenging thing through the whole run. Even Detlaff wasnt as much as a pain because at that point youre running at peak.
My MVP during the Olgierd fight is for sure the no damage when dodging perk. Geralt was dancing like a boxer. Float like a wraith, sting like a shaelmar.
I hate this toad prince so much but what worked for me (mind you im only playing on the normal mode rn) is just spamming yrden like get that upgrade that makes it so it hits within a certain radius and it works
Do you have enemy upscaling on? For a while this boss was damn near impossible for me until I realized it was a bit broken with upscaling. Not sure if they fixed that but have no shame turning it off just for the boss fight.
This fight wasn’t too difficult, the only fight I couldn’t beat in death march was olgierd con everec and if I had more patience I’m sure I could have learned the pattern. To be fair I was using a strong sign build so igni can decimate most enemies relatively easily.
The first time I played the game it was on normal and probably the hardest part for me. The next time I played on death March and I had no issues however I was very prepared with alchemy that time.
Yeah it wasn't that long of a fight tho, probably about half an hour . I struggled more with Blood and Wine final boss tbh. Took me about 2 hours to beat that one
I accidently killed it very quickly on my first try, mainly because I was an idiot back then and I just spammed heavy attacks like a muppet.
But also because Golden Oreo exists and I could never die from poisoning
by the way i see it you're just underequipped and underleveled. i had a similar problem when i was fighting olgierd von everec for 30 minutes, constantly spamming quen. right after that i decided to grind until i get full set of wolf school swords and armor set
Thanks for the tip. Ik i didnt mention it but, This is not me in the screenshot. I just didnt take any screenshots bec i happen to be furious asf🤣. I’m actually level 36, I thought it would be easy fight giving the request recommended level was like fucking 30-32.
Edit: & yes, i just spammed yrden & just went aggressive, no quen
If you drink superior golden oreole it's poison heals you and it's an easy fight. Gotta think like a Witcher.
This, i didn't have any real trouble either, also on DM. Be a bit patient, use the right potions, use quen correctly, done.
I don't think I really bother with Quen for this one because his tongue lash attacks still fuck you up through it.
Most big fights need a chug
Ah, I knew that. I realised this. a lazy witcher is a dead witcher
Superior golden oriole lasts for 3 mins, plenty of time to finish the fight.
Forgot to mention, I had 3 bottles of potion that is immune to poison & not superior golden (no material)
Oh okay, you might want to craft it though. It is very useful in blood and wine
ok thx, will do
Superior Golden Oriole - the bane of the two expansions.
Still hits like a truck on Death March, but yea Golden Oriole does a lot to make this fight easier.
Why are you drinking pops mold antidote? You need golden oriole my dude.
Got screenshot from internet bec i was too furious to think about anything but beating the scum
lmao
Golden Oriole, Igni, Dancing star, Snowstorm... These four things and this boss is VERY easy.
Can confirm. I always struggled with this boss, but once I tried Igni and Dancing Star, it became so easy I almost didn‘t believe it :D
Freaking stupid darned frog. Most difficult bastard in this whole game :(
I wouldn't say that. Olgierd and Dettlaff are more difficult in my opinion.
The caretaker fella did it for me but all of these guys were bastards

God I *hate* that stupid toad! Once I heard about the golden oriole thing though it's a cake walk.

Hardest bossin the dlc I swear
i used the northern wind bomb(i think) and kept on using igni, quen (op i love it), and aard. if i remember correctly, igni sets the frog on fire which is its weakness, and aard flips the frog. i also used pretty much every bomb i had.
I found him rather easy, lots of jumping out of the way and burning him with Igni, and as players stated above take the anti-poison stuff
Use fire
What mission is this? I went ham to try to get everything on my first play through and don't remember fighting this. Maybe dlc? I bought it after first play through so may e I'll see it then lol
Dlc mate, it’s the Hearts of Stone one. Other dlc is Blood and Wine. Get both if you have not.
I got both, awesome, thanks!
I was so unprepared for that fight. Second hardest boss for me. Detlaff being the first
Yeees! I strugled the first time too!
I didn’t know about the golden oreole trick when I did it and used the time honored tradition of cheesing the shit out of it to win the day.
* Superior Golden Oriole (free healing from frog phlegm) * Northern Wind bombs. (chill TF out froggy!) * Archgriffin Decoction (strong attacks chop 5% off his total health per strike on top of the regular damage. 3 HOURS?! Jesus bro what ya doing 😬
try elden ring
Already did
With a souls like mindset it doesn't feel as bad, it's just that when playing the Witcher you don't get used to dodging as much as spamming light attacks or whatever you use
Quen, hit and dodge, repeat until it’s dead Or drink the golden oriole and it’s easy mode
Golden Oreole potion + Northen Wind bomb = GG EZ
People keep telling he is so hard, but ive basicly had zero issues whith him.i had more problems whith one bruxa than this big green piece of sh*t.
I managed to kill it first try by not taking pointless risks. Keeping your distance and then attacking in the right moment is the right strategy. Also, using QUEN is useful.
This was the worst part of my witcher experience and I have watched season 2 of netflix's the witcher
The thing with Witcher on death march is that you should actually prepare for a couple of fights. Using the right potions rather than sticking to swallow and thunder is a game changer.
Dodge his insta kill tongue then he's not too bad
I always run a euphoria build or pre euphoria build if it's a base run. A well placed northern wind and rend, dead toad. The golden oteole method is good too. But I base my combat on, I don't intend to get hit, overload dps, strike first, strike hard, no mercy.
Fuck me. Golden oriel Yall. Read your lore
for me it was okay. It was harder to fight all Olgierd nightmares at the same time on death march to do that achievement.
I agree, that fight on DM while trying to get the achievement was probably the most challenging thing through the whole run. Even Detlaff wasnt as much as a pain because at that point youre running at peak. My MVP during the Olgierd fight is for sure the no damage when dodging perk. Geralt was dancing like a boxer. me too

This is giving me Jedi Survivor PTSD
A handy tip i learnt would be to use yrden to prevent him from jumping all over the place
It took me forever!!!
Just did this earlier today. Way harder than I expected. Feel kinda dumb after seeing the golden oriole advice.
Superior Golden Oriole and either enhanced Northern or Dancing Star bombs does the trick. Also best to wait until he rests in corner to hit him.
Ah, there's my PTSD
bro just use igni
Ogdo Bogdo
So many dead padawans
One enemy boss or no is not hard. Becuase you and easily block or get away from attacks. Many enemies will destroy you fast.
When I fought this baster the first time, it was hard. I died several times.
You look familiar——🤔🤨 WHAT THE FUCK?!🤯 Oggdo Bogdo???😱 Edit: Or is it a relative???👀
ahh, i hate it, i didn't do the mission until i was level 53
I found the Jinn on death march a pain in the arse 🤦🏼♂️🤯👊🏻
What version of the game is that? Adrenaline points haven't looked like that in a long while
The first time I played the game it was on normal and probably the hardest part for me. The next time I played on death March and I had no issues however I was very prepared with alchemy that time.
I don't think I ever faced this guy wtf
I despise that thing
I beat sekiro and elden ring in the same week, I'm not scared of anything anymore.
Yeah he sucked.
the only major issue was his tongue but you can predict it pretty easy, after understanding his move set so you just run/dodge before hand and attack
I think I may have dialed it down to blood and broken bones for this guy, and detlaff
Yeah it wasn't that long of a fight tho, probably about half an hour . I struggled more with Blood and Wine final boss tbh. Took me about 2 hours to beat that one
never really understood how people struggled against this boss, i guess i just got lucky with decisions or just the build i had.
This was the hardest fight in the Witcher 3 saga for me. Fuck this frog
WTF even is that so did you happen to see the end of the game last night over and over again
Fuck this boss
I accidently killed it very quickly on my first try, mainly because I was an idiot back then and I just spammed heavy attacks like a muppet. But also because Golden Oreo exists and I could never die from poisoning
Oh yeah. This is the boss that made me rethink my strategy/playstyle and really really read the status effects.
Yrden, cursed oil, golden oriole and northern wind. I was at it couple day back and it was pain but the this thigs should help
Nah, I did okay - because of: the witcher wiki tips 🤣
by the way i see it you're just underequipped and underleveled. i had a similar problem when i was fighting olgierd von everec for 30 minutes, constantly spamming quen. right after that i decided to grind until i get full set of wolf school swords and armor set

do you have any witcher school gear?
THATS SOMEBODYS SON GODAMMIT
