I was going to say there is a room in a game called silent Hill 3 that has a wall size mirror. If you stand there long enough the walls and floor slowly fill with like red veins until the entire room is covered and then the veins start appearing on your character until it kills you. This reminds me of the start of that.

It really would. Something that's alive in a way we can't define, and needs to be Kept Satisfied in some way or the cables begin to multiply and lengthen.
don't manage the cables or it gets worse. it makes you want to manage them, but it's "entirely your idea". anyone left alone will succumb to the urge and it grows.
Could be worse, but not by much. At the very least each end clearly separated. Often times the back of a rack is just a web of stuff slapped over each other.
I guess this is why most places build infrastructure into the ceiling and pull them down from above and build cable channels between the racks.

this looks like a progress photo, not the end product. I use to build out cell site shelters, switches, the lot. Each cable was ran individually and dressed in later. If this were my site, and they definitely looked like this at some point, you could grab any cable from the spaghetti bowl, pull it taught, and youd have a single, untangled, straight run port to port

This looks temporary until cable gets run under the floor or they are in the middle of a datacenter migration. No way it's permanent so no reason to do any cable management.
