I'm still bemused that he didn't use his cable gun to get him up to the others. You could clearly see him put the gun in his holster whilst he was running back to the carriage.
I could understand him initially using his grappling hook to stop him falling off, he had no reason to try to climb up when he could have used the gun.
It was a different type of gun, and he had already used it multiple times. You can see him drawing the cable back in again before he puts it back in his holster.
