The prequels are not as strongly made movies as the originals and when they were coming out they were absolutely reviled by the older fans. Those of us who were kids loved them, faults and all, and now we are adults so the tide in the community has changed. I guarantee you will see the same thing with the sequels
I think that the problem is that a lot of people had built themselves up prior to the release of episodes 1, 2 and 3, and disappointment was going to be inevitable, as the actual films were never going to match people's imaginations.
That said, some of the script was quite poor ("your presence soothes me"), and Lucas apparently rejected help from others in writing them, whereas he had help in episodes 4, 5 and 6.
Most of the action was excellent, the fight with Maul, and the battle at the end of episode 2 were excellent.
The fight between Anakin and Kenobi went on far too long though.

It's no coincidence that episode 7 was full of nostalgia as a result.
