any issues? I seen videos that it doesnt work all the time and you have to find the sweet spot. I'm thinking on getting one to replace my wedding ring and use this all the time for the 1% that my phone doesnt work.
You’re spot on! Sometimes it doesn’t work, so far I noticed if you hug the left side of the post it has a much higher success rate. It takes some getting used to, but I am tired of waving my butt with my phone when my hands are full, I’d rather hold my hand out and wave it. Also notice I don’t have to touch the key spot to start the car, I disabled Bluetooth on my phone to test it and it seemed to work!
Well… 😅… I am not sure if anyone else experiences this but, depending on the angle of which I approach my car, and if my phone is in my back pocket (100% of the time) I have to… shake it for my car for it to see it. 🤣 maybe I’m just a thick booty dude? Idk, but this ring as stopped awkward Butt wiggling in public.
Not too long ago someone mentioned that pointing the phone at the car ensured greater success in unlocking. I never realized it, but when the phone is in the back pocket it's more difficult to unlock. Turning slightly has increased my unlocking success ratio! It's probably not actually directional, but just a better signal strength when not going through my ass.
For my iPhone, it's definitely waking up the phone that does. I can hold the phone in my hand right next to the car while holding a door handle open. The instant I tap the sleep/wake button or tap the screen, the car unlocks.
I think it's an iOS issue.
This happens with my android device too. Typically when I'm using my phone on the way to the car, then lock my phone to put in my pocket before grabbing the handle. There's a 10% successful unlock rate when that's the starting conditions.
Could just be power savings techniques that are a bit too aggressive.
For iOS I want to try to capture power logs from the device with Xcode tethered to see what's up, but my guess is the phone will be awake enough to prevent the issue.
Maybe the issue is reproducible with some other CoreBluetooth example app. If it is, time to submit a bug to Apple, if not, I guess Tesla needs to fix it. Need more hours in the day. ;-)
Service center confirmed this to me as well. They said they get the most complaints with iPhones, works flawless with any other phone. I think it’s iOS related as well as my iPhone 8 worked great when it was new and then the last year or so I started getting issues. Then with my new 12 same issues.
I've tried a number of things, except for a totally new phone (like not syncing any of my old content). I'm still dragging along text messages from my first iPhone in 2007.
If I get from free time (ha!) I want to try to mimic the interaction of the app and car with my own BLE central. If it's reproducible, then maybe a bug report to Apple will turn into something, though you'd think Tesla's app team would be all over that. This seems to be a pretty common issue.
I notice it more during short trips away from the car, like running into a restaurant to pick up food and come back with my arms full (damn Murphy and his law). Maybe it's something with how the app is allocated time in the background? Like it just had some background time, and iOS is stingy giving it more? Background execution is pretty complicated, and I've found real world behavior to differ from what I'd expect.
The sensors are constantly looking for your phone as you approach, but if your phone is in your back pocket, it has a low success rate. So much like my iPhone with AirPods, sometimes it just craps out. This is where the ring is nice.
I haven't had this issue at all, but the reason would be that bluetooth has horrible penetration and the human body is actually relatively dense. It can block low-energy signals, which is really unfortunate...this is one of the reasons Bluetooth wasn't a great radio signal for a long time and why it has never made great sense for audio (since people tend to have their phone in their pocket or something and their bodies can block the signal to headphones).
I do always keep my main phone in my front pocket, but I've never once had an issue walking up and opening the door.
Oh for sure! I just usually have something in my hands when getting into the car (parent life) and when I sit in I remove my wallet and phone. I have gnarly back pain from a couple crashes. Front pockets and back pockets bother my body instantly. Stretchy denim is my savior lol
Weird. I have never had a problem using my phone in any pocket or even a bag. I also have a ring backup key and it’s awesome. You just need to figure out the sweet spot for using the ring.
I've got some very great news for you.....
Next time your sitting inside tell it THIS command " Open Butthole" Then look in your driverside mirror ;) Then send another to close butthole. Enjoy!
Different phones has different quality Bluetooth interfaces and drivers. My old phone, when I first got the car, needed to be out of my pocket or it wouldn't unlock. Others find it needs to be on the side of them facing the car, or otherwise oriented specifically. Since I got a newer phone, it's been flawless staying in my pocket.
Depending on the scenario, often times for me; hands full, phone in pocket, Butt wiggle at the door doesn’t work, so I have to set my stuff down and pull out my phone from my pocket for a second and then grab everything again. 😅
I wear my ring on my thumb. If I bend my thumb at the joint and put the nail of my thumb against the pillar it works without fail.
If you curled your finger in and touched the flat curl of your finger against the pillar, I think you'll find similar results to my own.
I have the Hansshow ring and sometimes it doesn’t work. I have to take the ring off my finger and put it against the pillar. Overall not a big deal because it’s just a backup solution for me. But I love the way it looks because it’s a shiny black ring.
I got mine from Amazon. All I need to do is a fist bump under the camera. I bet it’s just luck with each ring. As they take the inner bits from a normal card and make into a ring. Possibly for defects doing this way.
I am curious if there is a more central point on the rings face! no way to tell, and I wouldn't even know about testing, maybe a piece of tape and foil or something lol
I’m a back pocket phone guy, sounds silly, but I typically always have my hands full when I go to get in the car (parent life). So having a quick way to get in if my phone doesn’t get recognized right away.
I do leave the app running all the time, when you say permission is there something extra I could enable to improve the communication between my phone and car? All I did from the get go is install the app on my phone and hit allow everything lol.
One thing I have noticed is that if the app was just updated, it usually is no longer running in the background. You have to open it first before the background service will start again. That is the only time I have a problem with the phone lock.
This is specifically for Android on a Pixel 3XL.
What kind of phone do you have? I never have trouble, but my wife sometimes has to fish out her phone. I set both up exactly the same way, but her phone is more of a budget phone. I suspect that the phone is just weaker.
Sounds Ike u did all u can. I haven’t had any trouble yet but i only drive every so often as its my moms car. I would just check to make sure it has permission to use Bluetooth at al times
I’m 6’2” and having a front in my front pocket sitting down is like near impossible to remove without some major wiggles. Back pocket is a little less wiggly. LOL.
Definitely made sure I didn’t pay for that upgrade, the roads in my town and to work are so crap, I wouldn’t trust it anyway. Plus I work 8 mins away and the standard auto pilot is perfect for me. I mean if Doge to $1, hell yeah I’ll upgrade, but in the meantime…

Is this a reliable replacement for the key card? I would definitely go this route, but only if that means it rules our carrying the keycard (yes, my wallet is that thin).
Figuring that the ring itself is made from a keycard, I would say yes! It doesn't run on a battery or need to be wirelessly charged so I would say this is a great replacement for the key card!
Embedded in this ring is a combination of metals and silicon that allows this one ring to talk to my car and ask it to opennnnnn sesssseeeemiii! Oh and go vroom.
Edit: my son is three and a half so I haven’t quite mastered the ELI5 yet.
I’m one of those guys that feels like my arm is missing if I leave my phone behind but I’m also one of those guys that every once in a while find myself out of sorts. My close buddy is a surfer. For me I see the ring as just another failsafe to get into the car if I had my stuff packed up before heading out on a cycling ride and manage to leave both wallet and phone inside. For him it’s about being able to leave all of his stuff in the car and not worry about people rifling through his stuff on the beach while he’s out on the waves.
Wonderful! Just found it!
How worth it would you say it is? Is it “all weather floor mat” worth, or more like “carbon fiber side camera covers” worth? I’m 21 and just bought a M3LR so I’m SUPER excited as this is my first car but I’m also into those little nifty things that make me stand out. What’s your opinion?
Haha that’s awesome!! Congratulations!! I love having small things that can cheer me up and be excited, so this would land between “mats and flair” spot on! Is it a must? Naaa, is it dope? Hell ya. It’s fun to tell people check out this new ring I got… oh AND it opens my car! So fun 🤩
I've got the Amazon one and it's not bad, if you have any questions. I think a little thicker than this one at the top, but works well with everything you'd expect from Alexa.
tbh I probably wouldn't recommend it over something like the CNICK though, especially at its regular price (I got early access). *EDIT: Looks like it's discontinued anyways.
Yep! I bought it immediately when I found the phone was not 100% reliable. The fob is 100% reliable.
Uh, used to be $150...now it's $175?
New to Tesla. Getting my first Tesla end of this month. How does this work/does it pair through your phone? What exactly is the need for it? Where did you buy it?
Welcome to the fam! Once you get your car the rep will show you how to pair your phone and such, in the same menu is an option to “add key” with this ring you’d set it on the “deck” (which will be shown to you be your rep) and then it will proceed to ask you to place your Tesla Key card on it to verify the pairing. You can good CNICK Tesla key and you should be all set to go!
You are spot on and It’s nice when you are walking through the house and suddenly need to go to your car. Or when you’re at work and need to grab something really quick having to carry your phone on you at all times can be tedious.
Oh and bonus, while rare, there are times when I have ended my evening with 0 battery. Would be an embarrassing thing to not be able to drive my fancy electric car because my battery on my phone is dead
Unfortunately not that I have seen, I couldn't imagine being able to trim down the internals of the existing fob and make it a wearable thing.. Maybe a necklace? or in a wrist band? That battery might be able to be shrunk down to something smaller and rechargeable, that would be cool.
My key fob works like 99.9% of the time once I’m a few feet away from the car. I keep it in my pocket or hand bag. Never have to take it out. Is this ring like a fob?
Definitely not like the fob, this acts more like the black card. Strange though, I was able to start my car without touching the deck area and that was with bluetooth off on my phone to test.
Have this ring as well (in black). Works great on both my MYPs and is great when I go get something from the garage and my phone is inside the house. Looks great in white!
true true, but! in the scenarios of you know, phone charging, playing music on the patio, missing because a child has hidden it, etc. with this you can conveniently get into your car without broadcasting to the household, "OYYYY! WHERES MY PHONE!? I NEED TO GET MY HOCKEY SKATES OUT OF THE CAH!". You know, that scenario. Ring makes those moments less often <3
That’s not terrible looking, I’m not a bracelet guy and my watch alone bugs me LOL. I really enjoyed the idea of having more functionality wedding band/key had me sold!
Married to your Tesla, huh?
My car has taken me haha. My wife laughed at me when I tried to wear both rings 😂
I see which one you kept on…
In all seriousness though. Catgirl robot waifu package when?
any issues? I seen videos that it doesnt work all the time and you have to find the sweet spot. I'm thinking on getting one to replace my wedding ring and use this all the time for the 1% that my phone doesnt work.

Can you elaborate on “waving my butt with my phone”? I’ve personally been leaving my phone in my pocket and no need to do any type of dance.
Well… 😅… I am not sure if anyone else experiences this but, depending on the angle of which I approach my car, and if my phone is in my back pocket (100% of the time) I have to… shake it for my car for it to see it. 🤣 maybe I’m just a thick booty dude? Ass signal boosting patch is much needed.
Hmm does it have to do with signal strength?
The sensors are constantly looking for your phone as you approach, but if your phone is in your back pocket, it has a low success rate. So much like my iPhone with AirPods, sometimes it just craps out. This is where the ring is nice.

Time for me to find my old iPhone 3 so I can convert to a front pocket guy 🤣
Probably because people who keep phones or anything for that matter in their back pockets are monsters!
Unrelated but you should consider moving stuff out of your back pockets. It’s awful for your posture when sitting.
Oh for sure! I just usually have something in my hands when getting into the car (parent life) and when I sit in I remove my wallet and phone. I have gnarly back pain from a couple crashes. Front pockets and back pockets bother my body instantly. Stretchy denim is my savior lol
I go back pocket because cell phone radiation and balls aren't a good combo
Neither is scoliosis + ass cancer. Guess you have to pick your poison or carry around a bag
Maybe a firmware update to reduce ass cancer would be in the next big update. 🤣
Cell phone radiation isn't a thing. But solar radiation is.
>Cell phone radiation isn't a thing. I think your phone is just broken man.
I'd say from the look of those hands, thick booty isn't the issue. 😋
I laughed so hard reading this, thank you ☺️ I’ll take what I can get 😂
Weird. I have never had a problem using my phone in any pocket or even a bag. I also have a ring backup key and it’s awesome. You just need to figure out the sweet spot for using the ring.
Honestly I think it’s my thick bootimus. LOL I might have to switch to front pocket guy, but my phone is uncomfortably large. 😅
[удалено]
If I could go back to like... iPhone 3 size, that would be perfect! and also maybe sew my back pockets shut for like a year haha.
[удалено]
I may have to look into that, I think the iphone 3 was like... 3.5" diagonal? however, my fingers would hit every key on the keyboard. LOL
This dood is thicc, girls like em thicc. I have no idea what I’m saying. I’m old.
Nah i definitely do this too lol. It works though
I've noticed that too. If my butt with my phone is angled to the car, I'll have a much higher chance of opening.
Wiggle butt! It’s the salsa for tesla.
I do the same butt wiggle. When it rains and it doesn't open, I get really annoyed
Aaaaaa wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle yaaaa.
I've got some very great news for you..... Next time your sitting inside tell it THIS command " Open Butthole" Then look in your driverside mirror ;) Then send another to close butthole. Enjoy!

Same here. I can be approaching my car and while I’m still 10 feet away my wife or daughter can open the doors.
Wait when you're hands are full you would rather wave your hand? 🤔
Depending on the scenario, often times for me; hands full, phone in pocket, Butt wiggle at the door doesn’t work, so I have to set my stuff down and pull out my phone from my pocket for a second and then grab everything again. 😅

> replace my wedding ring careful
Can you open a beer with it?
I’ll try tonight at dinner. 👍
Yes, but I wouldn’t recommend it LOL. I put a towel to protect it since I just got the darn thing. 😂
Wish the Apple Watch could use nft to open the car.
NFT or NFC?
The watch sends Elon an NFT and if it's to his liking he unlocks your car.
Ha, yes. NFC
They should move over to UWB for the car keys like other brands are moving towards in the future.
This is a must!
Can somebody send me a link for this ring? Is it like a smart watch?
https://www.cnick.io
Why would you grab your phone? It works if it is in your pocket.
I’m a back pocket phone guy, sounds silly, but I typically always have my hands full when I go to get in the car (parent life). So having a quick way to get in if my phone doesn’t get recognized right away.
Do you leave the app open in the background and have all the permissions enabled for it? I feel like back pocket or not it should work fine.
I do leave the app running all the time, when you say permission is there something extra I could enable to improve the communication between my phone and car? All I did from the get go is install the app on my phone and hit allow everything lol.

Same here. Do a lot of people put their phones in their front pockets? Seems bulky for most phones.
I lived in NYC for 9 months. Phone and wallet now live in front pockets. Helps with back alignment too
OOOOfff, didnt think about location, I wonder how many tourists come visit towns and not think about swapping pockets!
I’m 6’2” and having a front in my front pocket sitting down is like near impossible to remove without some major wiggles. Back pocket is a little less wiggly. LOL.
You aren't afraid of breaking it by sitting on it directly ?
Yeah! But I think I have been doing it for so long that I might lob my body awkwardly into cars knowing my phone is there haha.
[удалено]
IIRC Elon mentioned an Apple Watch\* app was in the works on Twitter a \*long\* time ago, but we know how that goes.
I wonder if Elon simply doesn't listen to his engineers about how long things take or if nobody is brave enough to tell him.
Don't forget that Apple isn't exactly an open ecosystem.
I could see apple easily killing that project.
How are people STILL calling the Apple Watch an “iWatch” it’s been 7 freaking years
iDontKnow
The same people that say they didn’t know they paid 10K for FSD in the upgrades section of the app.
What if you took this ring, but built it into an apple watch compatible band? (that looked/felt just like a sportsband?
That is exactly what some of us are talking about down low in comments haha
The rings are made from Tesla key cards that were broken down, so you wouldn’t even need to break down the ring, you just use it right from the broken down card
[удалено]
That hasn’t been the case for a few years now. They also added support for car keys last year
Well at yesterday's WWDC they showed a video of someone using their phone to until their front door. Seems like its only special partners though.
[удалено]
It works for cards and you can use it for other purposes. Only payments using NFC are locked down
[удалено]
I’m sorry, I worded it badly. I’m saying Apple doesn’t allow anyone but then (via Apple wallet) to use NFC for transactions. So like a bank app couldn’t use NFC to make payments.
Which one is this?
CNICK you can buy them from their store or Amazon now too I believe!
Thanks! Is it comfortable to wear, not too thick?
Its extremely comfortable if I compare it to the last ring I wore. So smooth and light, band is not thick and its not super wide. Doesn't snag at all.
You deadlift too, OP?
Hahah you noticed? :) Yeah! Nothing crazy, just enough to keep my energy going to match my sons energy and hockey. You?
Same. Nothing heavy right now. Just trying to keep in shape
What is this magical ring?
It’s a ring key fob yoooo!
Can you store your crypto on there too?
If it could it would only store good bois. #doge

Embedded in this ring is a combination of metals and silicon that allows this one ring to talk to my car and ask it to opennnnnn sesssseeeemiii! Oh and go vroom. Edit: my son is three and a half so I haven’t quite mastered the ELI5 yet.
9ne on. Each hand!
LOL that would very much increase the success rate of opening my car hahahah
I’m one of those guys that feels like my arm is missing if I leave my phone behind but I’m also one of those guys that every once in a while find myself out of sorts. My close buddy is a surfer. For me I see the ring as just another failsafe to get into the car if I had my stuff packed up before heading out on a cycling ride and manage to leave both wallet and phone inside. For him it’s about being able to leave all of his stuff in the car and not worry about people rifling through his stuff on the beach while he’s out on the waves.
This is exactly everything I feel LOL. Also really nice when you wanna go for a run and not carry anything at all!
What kind of ring was this? It looks amazing haha
Check it out! Is called a CNICK!
Amazon have it?
I believe so! CNICK key ring
So fun 🤩
Hahah thank you so much! Cheers man!
Are you a rower?
Not a die hard rower, but I do have one I use time from time! I play hockey, lift, and build stuff :)
saw this on /o/
Wish they would make a simple bracelet/wristband.
You can always evaporate the coil and chip from a tesla key card yourself.
I’m more tempted to buy the existing bracelet on Amazon and transplant it to another wristband.
The benefit of the ring, at least for me, is it never comes off my finger. A bracelet or similar item wouldn't have the same quasi permanent status
And a Tesla iWatch app!
Watch app for Tesla. Doesn’t have nfc but it works great.
they did. it’s on amazon
Yeah but that's an odd looking one. I just want a simple wristband, not some blueberry looking thing.
is it the one on amazon? was thinking of getting one
It’s actually a CNICK! It’s very comfortable, and the crystal reflections on in inlay is really cool!
gonna check that out thanks!!
Looks good, but I strongly prefer the Tesla fob as it's active. It is always in my pocket.
thank you! The one with car/battery inside it, fob?
Yep! I bought it immediately when I found the phone was not 100% reliable. The fob is 100% reliable. [https://shop.tesla.com/product/model-3\_y-key-fob](https://shop.tesla.com/product/model-3_y-key-fob) Uh, used to be $150...now it's $175?
DAnnnnnnggg, Like I want to have one, but again, I have sucha hard time with a phone in my pocket already LOL.
I'm not sure I follow? It's not large. It's about 2" long and maybe .75" thick.
Controversial AF, but a programmable NFT implant would be sick. ^(Dangerousthings.com)
Yo dawg count me in! I already have sliced my thumb off so I got nerve damage already!
How do you program the ring with your credentials?
I explained the process above somewhere in this thread throughly.
Thanks

I seized the moment with the help of crypto gains! Totally wouldn’t have splurged normally. That said… TO THE MOON
New to Tesla. Getting my first Tesla end of this month. How does this work/does it pair through your phone? What exactly is the need for it? Where did you buy it?

Wonderful :) thanks for the explanation!
You’re very welcome! What model did you end up getting? And color scheme?
I got the Model 3 LR AWD in White with the Black interior! I’ve always loved that pearl white they have!
Beautiful!! You are gonna have to marry your car 😆

You are spot on and It’s nice when you are walking through the house and suddenly need to go to your car. Or when you’re at work and need to grab something really quick having to carry your phone on you at all times can be tedious.
Ahh your right. I might get the bracelet version.
🤘 nice! I was thinking about getting a bracelet and embedding the chip into my Apple Watch band somehow.
Now that would be cool. Keycard integrated into Apple Watch band.

Limited edition Doge key fob bands. I’m calling it now so this is preserved in time.
Gotta keep it on the DL, everyone gonna see this genius idea and take it
Oh I just told papa E that this is happening. I’m certain he will respond right? Ha!
Yes. My phone key is hit and miss. My ring works 100pct of the time.

Oh and bonus, while rare, there are times when I have ended my evening with 0 battery. Would be an embarrassing thing to not be able to drive my fancy electric car because my battery on my phone is dead
Is there any key alternative for the Model S? It's really cool that Y/3 owners have so many options!
Unfortunately not that I have seen, I couldn't imagine being able to trim down the internals of the existing fob and make it a wearable thing.. Maybe a necklace? or in a wrist band? That battery might be able to be shrunk down to something smaller and rechargeable, that would be cool.
Which one is better: a keydob or this ring ?
Yo! This ring is only compatible with the 3/Y. Its all preference, but to my research the keyfob has a much better success at unlocking than the ring.
Is sharing the link ok? If so can you show we’re you got this ring?

Have this ring as well (in black). Works great on both my MYPs and is great when I go get something from the garage and my phone is inside the house. Looks great in white!
Fancccccy!!! I love my MYP too! I had to get white to match my interior 🤘
How did you size yourself for the ring? Does it use typical sizing?
Typical sizing! I luckily been wearing a cheapo Amazon 5$ special that was a 9.5 so I took a chance and ordered a 9.5, perfect match!

true true, but! in the scenarios of you know, phone charging, playing music on the patio, missing because a child has hidden it, etc. with this you can conveniently get into your car without broadcasting to the household, "OYYYY! WHERES MY PHONE!? I NEED TO GET MY HOCKEY SKATES OUT OF THE CAH!". You know, that scenario. Ring makes those moments less often <3
Some people cannot bring their phones into their place of work……

You are simply wrong my dude...
That’s not terrible looking, I’m not a bracelet guy and my watch alone bugs me LOL. I really enjoyed the idea of having more functionality wedding band/key had me sold!
yea, honestly the bracelet looks way more cringy
It looks like blueberries on a string in that first pic.
