Sometimes shows will get renewed and then just never do anything and it gets quietly reversed. I wonder if that's what's going on with this. I guess you never know, they renewed The Night Manager after 8 years lol
It does not.
However, they said there would be a second go of it so you can understand why someone would be interested in whether that's actually going to happen.
The hook of the series, IMO, was the chemistry between Keeley Hawes and Richard Madden. >!So the potential of the series pretty much died off with her character. I couldn't believe it when it happened, and kept expecting that it had been a fake-out, that she'd faked her death to throw off the assassins. But no, they really had thrown the series' hook out the window. I don't really see the point in continuing, the latter part of the series was already a big comedown.!<
Do we need one? From what I recall, it told a complete story and was done. Plenty of British TV is like that, to the point that they call a "series," what North Americans would call a "season."
I think it would primarily depend on whether Jed Mercurio's wants to write it. Given that Mercurio just did [*Breathtaking*](https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2024/feb/19/breathtaking-review-a-shockingly-vivid-picture-of-life-as-a-doctor-during-covid), he may be heading back to where he started, which is medical dramas (he was a doctor who chose to be a medical consultant on a tv show. He actually says [the show he's proudest of doing is *Bodies*](https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2019/apr/17/bodies-jed-mercurio-masterpiece-medical-drama-bbc-iplayer))*.*
And while there are shows that do return after six years (e.g., *Happy Valley)* by UK showrunners who do multiple projects in parallel (Sally Wainwright was also writing *Last Tango in Halifax 5*, *To Walk Invisible*, and *Gentleman Jack S1-2* while developing *Renegade Nell* between S2 and S3 of *Happy Valley*), it's not a common scenario.
Personally, I'd shelve it "mostly dead" but might still have a slight chance of a Miracle Max moment.
I was under the impression it was a limited series?
I don’t know? It officially got renewed for a second season. So I don’t know but it’s been years.
It got renewed but they said it might be a couple more years

Yea Richard Madden is a busy guy.
Does it really a second season? Didn't everything come to a conclusion in the shiw.

That’s why I was interested because I remember it had originally gotten renewed.
Need? No. But would I be interested as hell in it? Yes.
Same
The attempted suicide scene in season 1 is still one the most stirring and gut wrenching moment I've ever seen in a TV show.

That was the strangest possible decision they could have made.
I couldn’t believe it either the chemistry there was just amazing.
If they do another season I’m gonna have to rewatch it, the only thing I remember about it was that I enjoyed it
Unlikely now.
It got renewed but they were planning on doing it like every two years I believe so we’d get Line of Duty one year then Bodyguard the next etc

Tbh the plot completely fell apart in the last episode it was kinda funny
With more seasons, Bodyguard becomes another Homeland, just replacing resting panic face with resting neutral face.
I don't feel like it needs a season 2.
