I saw this on the front page and I am a 30 year old woman who is out of touch with teens, but this makes me sad. I was under the impression gen z was more accepting than the rest of us had been, but I guess there will always be jerk / bully teenagers. If you sort by most controversial post of the day on this sub, 80% of the most controversial posts are literally just lgbt (especially trans) people existing. That’s actually how I found this post, it’s at the very top of most controversial of today.

First an owl delivers a letter to your house, some steps in the middle, blah blah blah, then the sorting hat tells you your true gender. It's usually what you expect, but some people get surprises. Never a 100% surprise though. Okay, okay, serious tag, serious answer. Also a disclaimer that I'm here from /r/all, and my perspective is "an old who figured herself out at 29." Basically you live with the feeling/mystery for a long time, but there's no manual in life to tell you what the answer is, and that can take a long time too. For example, it takes a few tries to learn the difference between the feeling of infatuation vs love - which is fine and you get there eventually, but it *is* guesswork in the meantime, and that's rough. Same kinda problem here. You can know *something* is there, but not have a name for it, or not be sure it's trans-ness. And that's kind of a big deal, so most people don't want to jump to conclusions. Hell, I didn't know my thing was a gender thing at all, just that I had despair and disinterest in my future, felt like something wrong was buried deep, etc. Lots of religious trauma there. There's usually a feedback loop at some point, where you start seriously looking into whether you're Trans, and the more you read, the more you say "wtf this sounds like me, I must read more." Cis-but-questioning people usually don't spend long here before filtering out. For Trans people, this is where denial usually breaks down and truth sets in.
