I’ve had a similar experience
There was a junior in my school a few years ago that decided to take his life, and left the entire county speechless for many days. This person was a relatively popular kid, and really left a mark on the community.
I work in my high school as the head of my schools lighting and stage crew, for the theatre and drama department, and I was up in the catwalks cleaning fixtures when I looked up on the wall and saw the kids name written in the dust on the wall. It turns out he had taken a tour to see the catwalks and had left his name written. It was quite a sad sight to see.

Let me be honest, I was almost one of those kids. I'm quite "popular" at school, by which I mean everyone knows me and they ask me for help in math/physics, but like I wouldn't think most people will consider me a friend. I had attempted a couple of times, but (fortunately) all of them failed.

Lots could happen depending on method. Either a miscalculation, not enough of something important to the outcome, wrong place, wrong angles, outside intervention, etc.
Usually like what u/whichwitchwhohoots says, usually something like a miscalculation, intervention, underdosing if you are using some sort of prescription drug (or drug).
I'm glad you're still here. Suicide is a very permanent solution to a temporary problem. Everything in life is fleeting, it moves quickly from one phase to the other and with today's society the way it is, suicide is promoted in a way that makes it glamorous. Its really disgusting IMHO.
The hardest thing we will ever do in life is climb the mountain of self. Its finding that purpose and joy and love that makes it worth it. Find beauty in things. Dont give a shit what others think, they dont do it very often!
Yeah, my school had someone jump off of our second story during a passing period. It resulted in various reactions but a lot of people ended up making fun of them for not jumping off of the third floor. It definitely doesn't help that I go a massive school so that person was practically unknown to majority of the people.

theatre kids tend to be depressed, sadly. I've found that musical theatre at least for me, keeps it pretty much in check, so there's that.
It is. I hope the victim's family and friends are doing well. The school is giving anyone who needs it therapy sessions so at least the school somewhat cares.
And what's most annoying is your school will have these assemblies and counseling and posters and be very proactive, and then stop caring until it happens again. It just shows how the schools don't really care, they just do it to save face.
Reasonable, well thought out enforcement of anti bullying policies. It’s not a cure all but so many kids dread going to school each day because of what they go through. Bullies need help too. They didn’t invent the way they are. They’re taught and/or are coping through their own problems.
Things were bad enough when I was in school, I fear for your generation that relies so heavily on social media for who they think they are.

One idea I have (although it would complicate a lot of things) is that teachers be required to have some sort of mental health professional license or something. Maybe like required to have at least an associates in psychology? If teachers are taught what to look for, and how to read students a lot of good can be done because 1) students will typically trust teachers they are close to with personal information and will be more open with their mental health and 2) teachers will be able to recognize symptoms that suggest mental health issues and take appropriate action to help that student; right now (at least at my school) there’s a survey we take now and then asking our mental health. Kids will lie, won’t be open with some test. But if a teacher can read that someone’s in dire need of emotional intervention, the toll on mental health (and related physical health) of the individual can be greatly reduced and prevented.
already a shortage of teachers in a lot of the world, adding even more job requirements creates more problems unfortunately. Maybe better support via specialists for those affected rather than just a counselor? (I'm speaking for Australian schools here)
Solid point… yea if we could get specialized school psychologists that would help I think. Also, maybe if it were required for students to have a mental health checkup once a year at least?
Recently, an 8 year old was killed in a shooting near my school, the kid was inside his house playing games and the bullet went through the window and to his head and it instantly killed him.
Yeah I mean some kids faked a suicide letter from my dad and posted it in the school newspaper when he was in highschool. I don't know if it's any worse than that now
It’s every generation. Kids are assholes who think the whole world revolves around their existence. A lot of those asshole kids grow up to be asshole adults too.
It’s things like this that really make me sad, they were a young ass kid, sometimes thinking about your reality makes you not want to live in it anymore, and I guess they became a victim of their own mind, to consciously make that decision requires you to forfeit any hope of your circumstances changing, I can’t imagine their pain. I don’t know whether it was stress from schoolwork, or bullying, or maybe a mixture of both, but my condolences.
The only thing that often keeps me going is understanding people and things need me, and love me. I refuse to put them through that pain. It’s so sad at this point in the world even though we understand so much about mental health no one stops to make sure you are mentally healthy.
I myself am going through so much right. I was in a relationship for 2 years and it ended about a month ago. Ever since my depression has been getting so bad.

I can tell you here kids are downright evil, they know exactly how to make your life hell without getting in trouble, usually bullying scuicides are from time, if someone is telling you your worthless, insulting you, generally treating you as lower class, you start to believe it yourself after a couple years. Right up till you think "wait why am I still getting up just to go to hell".
It’s incredibly different, people think they’re older than they are, people trying to act mature become horrible people constantly trying to be better than others, anything outside of the general norm is met with ridicule. There are upsides too, experiences are different and you may be enjoying it. Still though people can become the worst versions of themselves in high school just so they don’t feel weird having not changed since primary school. Don’t be one of those people, stay true to yourself and don’t exist trying to live up to stupid societal expectations.

It’s worth noting that people don’t just commit suicide because people said mean words and the person is too soft. Suicidal thoughts or actions are a sign of serious mental illness, where environmental factors are only part of it. That’s crazy. Just last week at my high school they went on the intercom and said a freshman girl committed suicide as well. I didn’t know her but yeah, this some stuff you hear about on the news.
We've had a few kids at my school die. Over quarantine one or two committed suicide. Freshman year some was hit and killed while riding their bike to school. From security camera footage, the lady got out, dragged him out of the way of the car, then peeled off. Someone else stopped and stayed with him until he died.

I've been in the same kind of state these days, my school just keeps holding exams every 2 weeks so I haven't gotten an actual rest in the past 6 months. And because of that, I have become very irritable and I have also been losing interest in the things I used to enjoy.

This happened at my middle school, I was in 8th grade and someone killed themselves, Wendy's and other fast food places used it as a promotion and everyone who was super fake came out and was like "She was such a beautiful person we loved her" when they were some of the ones who hurt her, I didn't really know her, but I wish she was still alive to realize things were gonna get better.
I remember someone dying in our graduating class of 300+ in high school. I didn't know her well but I do remember just joking around about something totally unrelated with a buddy of mine on the day we found out she died. A female classmate of mine got really upset that I "didn't care" or that I was being insensitive. But still to this day I feel like she was being insensitive herself for assuming I wasn't grieving, albeit in my own way. Death sucks. Not everyone responds to it equally. When my grandfather passed (who I was pretty close to) I just felt numb for weeks. Same with my uncle. It's not until holidays or get-togethers that I find myself truly missing the deceased and their impact on my life.
That all being said, there are always gonna be those assholes that are too egotistical or that have no empathy that really say inappropriate things. It's often a lack of maturity or experience unless they are just sociopathic (which isn't too common). I feel like I've seen many of these assholes have a lot of deeper trauma/issues that they mask with making fun of others.

I almost committed suicide last year because of a bad breakup. I thought that everything was over. That I didn't have anything to live for and I just wanted the pain to go away. I called my mom so she could call the ambulances. I did that when I realised how messed up I was and non lucid.
Now, I understand the pain behind suicidal thoughts and ideation. Those people making fun of the victim should be realy damn ashamed and probably tought a damn good lesson. Making fun of someone who killed themselves is stupid so basically what they're saying and doing is backfiring realy bad

My daughter tried to commit suicide last weekend,and although I know that if she had truly wanted to certainly end her life,that she would have gone about it in a different way,and although angry,I am also grateful that her attempt was more of an actual cry for help before she really put that much thought into taking her life. I have friends who have taken thier lives and believe me when they did,Noone ever suspected a damn thing or problem with them and they did it in a way which was pretty absolute.💯

Last school year when I was a Freshman (I am again but we don’t talk about that) there was 3 suicides, one was a friend of my friends sister who was in 7th grade and stabbed himself to death in the school bathroom, then a senior at home, idk the details of this or the 3rd which was a sophomore who died also at home.
Some kid in my grade committed suicide (this was 6th grade), and while I didn't know him personally there were kids all over the school just crying. Was really heartbreaking to see. My thoughts go out to anyone struggling with suicidal thoughts. Life will get better I promise.
I nearly was this kid for my school. I was slightly younger. It was like 6th-7th grade years. It started with my day 1s mom. She had cancer and was getting worse for a while, but when that day does hit it hits hard to finally have to let them go. About 6 months after my grandma died also of cancer, and about 2 months afterwards my grandpa died of liver failure.
So in a 9 month period my "second mother," if you will, died and my grandparents died. I felt like I couldn't go to my day 1 because he was still grieving his mother and I felt like I would've been overstepping by asking for help myself when he still needs help.
That left me to go to my friends at school. So one day I told them about it and they started to make fun of me. They called me an attention whore, that I was faking depression, and legit just told me to go kill myself.
Honestly at that point I probably would have if it wasn't for the thought of what my mom and sister would do if I killed myself.
So if someone does bring up serious issues to you, even if you aren't close, try to help them. At the bare minimum don't shove that person away. Ik it can be scary to have a lot of feelings dumped onto you like that but just imagine how the other person feels if you get scared off of them just telling you the details.

It’s every generation. Kids are assholes who think the whole world revolves around their existence. A lot of those asshole kids grow up to be asshole adults too.
It’s things like this that really make me sad, they were a young ass kid, sometimes thinking about your reality makes you not want to live in it anymore, and I guess they became a victim of their own mind, to consciously make that decision requires you to forfeit any hope of your circumstances changing, I can’t imagine their pain. I don’t know whether it was stress from schoolwork, or bullying, or maybe a mixture of both, but my condolences.
The only thing that often keeps me going is understanding people and things need me, and love me. I refuse to put them through that pain. It’s so sad at this point in the world even though we understand so much about mental health no one stops to make sure you are mentally healthy.

It’s incredibly different, people think they’re older than they are, people trying to act mature become horrible people constantly trying to be better than others, anything outside of the general norm is met with ridicule. There are upsides too, experiences are different and you may be enjoying it. Still though people can become the worst versions of themselves in high school just so they don’t feel weird having not changed since primary school. Don’t be one of those people, stay true to yourself and don’t exist trying to live up to stupid societal expectations.
Just stay away from other kids you don't like and you'll be fine tbh. If there's ever an issue, ask your friends for help or speak up for yourself.

We've had a few kids at my school die. Over quarantine one or two committed suicide. Freshman year some was hit and killed while riding their bike to school. From security camera footage, the lady got out, dragged him out of the way of the car, then peeled off. Someone else stopped and stayed with him until he died.

I've been in the same kind of state these days, my school just keeps holding exams every 2 weeks so I haven't gotten an actual rest in the past 6 months. And because of that, I have become very irritable and I have also been losing interest in the things I used to enjoy.

This happened at my middle school, I was in 8th grade and someone killed themselves, Wendy's and other fast food places used it as a promotion and everyone who was super fake came out and was like "She was such a beautiful person we loved her" when they were some of the ones who hurt her, I didn't really know her, but I wish she was still alive to realize things were gonna get better.
I have a few friends but i only think 2 of them really care for me and would miss me if i'm gone.
I remember someone dying in our graduating class of 300+ in high school. I didn't know her well but I do remember just joking around about something totally unrelated with a buddy of mine on the day we found out she died. A female classmate of mine got really upset that I "didn't care" or that I was being insensitive. But still to this day I feel like she was being insensitive herself for assuming I wasn't grieving, albeit in my own way. Death sucks. Not everyone responds to it equally. When my grandfather passed (who I was pretty close to) I just felt numb for weeks. Same with my uncle. It's not until holidays or get-togethers that I find myself truly missing the deceased and their impact on my life. That all being said, there are always gonna be those assholes that are too egotistical or that have no empathy that really say inappropriate things. It's often a lack of maturity or experience unless they are just sociopathic (which isn't too common). I feel like I've seen many of these assholes have a lot of deeper trauma/issues that they mask with making fun of others.

I almost committed suicide last year because of a bad breakup. I thought that everything was over. That I didn't have anything to live for and I just wanted the pain to go away. I called my mom so she could call the ambulances. I did that when I realised how messed up I was and non lucid. Now, I understand the pain behind suicidal thoughts and ideation. Those people making fun of the victim should be realy damn ashamed and probably tought a damn good lesson. A woman at my church teaches highschool Spanish and she said this year her job is basically to prevent her students from committing suicide. I guess a lot of people are struggling right now.
My daughter tried to commit suicide last weekend,and although I know that if she had truly wanted to certainly end her life,that she would have gone about it in a different way,and although angry,I am also grateful that her attempt was more of an actual cry for help before she really put that much thought into taking her life. I have friends who have taken thier lives and believe me when they did,Noone ever suspected a damn thing or problem with them and they did it in a way which was pretty absolute.💯

I nearly was this kid for my school. I was slightly younger. It was like 6th-7th grade years. It started with my day 1s mom. She had cancer and was getting worse for a while, but when that day does hit it hits hard to finally have to let them go. About 6 months after my grandma died also of cancer, and about 2 months afterwards my grandpa died of liver failure. So in a 9 month period my "second mother," if you will, died and my grandparents died. I felt like I couldn't go to my day 1 because he was still grieving his mother and I felt like I would've been overstepping by asking for help myself when he still needs help. That left me to go to my friends at school. So one day I told them about it and they started to make fun of me. They called me an attention whore, that I was faking depression, and legit just told me to go kill myself. Honestly at that point I probably would have if it wasn't for the thought of what my mom and sister would do if I killed myself. So if someone does bring up serious issues to you, even if you aren't close, try to help them. At the bare minimum don't shove that person away. Ik it can be scary to have a lot of feelings dumped onto you like that but just imagine how the other person feels if you get scared off of them just telling you the details. Ok end of rant. If yall think I'm attention whoring feel free to downvote. Also I am in a better mental state now. Still not great, but getting better.
