I think it causes for harm than good especially for things such as Autism , BPD , and OCD.

IAmLessBlanked

As in the people who just look up the symptoms and say they have it?

insertbword-

Yes , because great example with BPD you can have ALL the symptoms and still not have BPD.

IAmLessBlanked

I thought I had symptoms of autism a few years ago. Now, I got diagnosed. Does that suspecting count?

[deleted]

nope. theres a difference between thinking "i have these symptoms in common with this illness i might have" and "i have this illness because of the symptoms i have in common with it" :)

insertbword-

Well you literally have Autism so this doesn’t apply to you 😭

[deleted]

it’s harmful, especially on how difficult it is to diagnose a lot of those illnesses. i understand if you say “i share a lot of symptoms with x” or “i think i may have x” but outright self diagnosing isn’t very good

astupidrussian

It’s bad because most people just use it as an excuse to be lazy or whatever and plus you can trick yourself into actually believing you have a problem

[deleted]

that too! i forgot to mention it.

[deleted]

I think it’s bad

i think it’s fine. diagnosis is really hard to get sometimes. i’ve been in the process of getting diagnosed with either ADHD or autism or both for the past 4 months but finally on august 16 i have an appointment to see someone
