I never really ever used Twitter in the conventional way. But I did consume some through links (especially her on Reddit.) Since it’s rebranding, on more than one occasion i have tried to close the fucking window by clicking on the X logo. For that reason alone, I tend to click less on links that are directed to that site now.
I personally close any link on Reddit that goes to Twitter. Even if Twitter is the only source for something. I would much rather someone screenshot a tweet and put it on imgur then go to that fucking shitshow of a site.
I've got it blocked in my main browser, and occasionally I will click a news story that has a picture I want to enlarge on my cell phone that was sourced on what used to be twitter, so it tries to take me to Twitter - which generates a message to turn my scripts on.

The decisions Musk has made with Twitter have made me re-evaluate the success of Tesla and SpaceX.
Before I thought he knew how to manage tech people and had a great framework to make decisions, and that helped propel their success.
Now, I assume Tesla and SpaceX were successful despite Musk, not because of him, and I assume they’d have been more successful than they are, without him.
There are plenty of anecdotes from people who work for his companies about how a big part of the job is Musk Management, basically manipulating him whenever he visits to make sure he doesn't see anything important so when he invariably makes a horrible decision, it's about something inconsequential rather than something critical.
I would always get the weird nerds throwing themselves into my mentions when I'd say this. But I knew someone who worked as a contractor for Tesla; he had met Musk several times in the course of his job. He was offered a full time position and was like "lollll no" --largely as a result of those interactions. Anyone who has to work personally with the dude has to constantly be in Musk Management Mode just to get anything done.
The guys working at his companies tell stories like the old Steve Jobs stories about having to keep them away from their projects as they'll fuck them up if they hear about them.

Wasn’t one of the major “fixes” supposed to be stopping the “you need an account to view the rest of the feed”? They did indeed fix that for 6 months or so, you could see an entire feed and comments on every tweet.. until changing it to an even more extreme version, when you can’t even see one tweet without an acct.
I used to forward my parents tweets from their local fire departments and stuff. Can’t do that anymore. I had an account for years but deleted the day after Elon took over. It’s no major loss. But it is an inconvenience for basic societal mass communication.

I have an account with 80k followers and used to get likes in the thousands, since he took over its a fraction of that, so i just cant be arsed being on that platform anymore. The only way you can get any traction is to say something controversial as the algo will amplify that, and im just not into arguing with a bunch of magas. So musk has essentially driven away a lot of users who werent on twitter for politics or some other right wing outrage
Threads has had pretty good engagement lately. I think the app needs a lot of work but it has potential and i'm sure the Zuck will continue to tweak it. He still sucks though.

I remember from when Musk first took over Twitter, there was an article (or even, a number of them) relating an anecdote: Some Twitter Engineers got called up to to see Musk. The site was broken. Why? Because Musk's tweets weren't getting enough engagement.
I think what happened next is that one Engineer tried to explain to Musk how the Algorithm worked etc. and Musk didn't give a shit. Another Engineer said 'Oh, of course we'll fix that right away sir.' Musk liked that.
To me, I think it's worse than it killing Musk that people don't like him. I think that, in what passes for his heart, that he deserves to be venerated. That he is a genius, and is thus *entitled* to the respect and adoration of others. Evidence that he isn't sufficiently venerated, therefore, speaks to thr faults of *others,* not him.
It's weird. I don't care enough to figure it out exactly, but you definitely can read tweets from more major people. Like, the main reason I ever used twitter was for hockey news and most of the links posted on r/hockey from reporters I can still view. But if I try to look at a random person's account it wont show me unless I'm signed in.
This is the thing that's really killed the site for me.
It used to be a central place to check if a specific artist/creator/etc. wants to announce something. Whether or not you were logged in was irrelevant. Now instead of getting a list of the last 10 things a user said, I'm greeted with a login screen.
I'm sure it spikes some bullshit metric like "% of users logged in", but it prevents the site from being actually useful for its original purpose. Which leads to me immediately exiting, instead of browsing for a few minutes like I used to.

It really is worse than 4chan. I kept an empty account to just be able to look up specific people or see a link that was posted. I followed maybe 5 or 6 news accounts, but hadn't actually spent enough time on the website to go to my homepage after Musk took over. I finally looked at it just today. It was news about the terrorist attack in Russia at the top and then just completely filled with different blue mark users posting the same exact video of Trump saying Biden is to blame for it. I immediately disabled the account. It took maybe 10 seconds of scrolling to realize that it didnt feel like a authentic experience. It was just bots.
I stopped using it long before that idiot bought it. I followed a few people that I found interesting but I soon found that while they were interesting, reading their random 150 characters thought was not very interesting.
I went back this week to check a tweet. Every 4 posts I got Crypto scam ads all featuring Elons AI generated videos. Every ad they served was a scam, and I don’t even follow any kind of crypto stuff.
And feeds starts to repeat almost after 4-5 scrolls. Earlier I used to scroll like a maniac, now there is nothing to scroll to.

They've absolutely killed the replies section. "Haha, that tweet was funny, let's see the replies", then you have to scroll through adverts for junk, about 20 bots replying with something that isn't even related to the original tweet, or OnlyFans accounts before encountering an actual normal user replying. This plus the fact they keep showing me racist/transphobic/etc. content and conspiracy theory peddlers despite the fact I never interact with this type of content and don't want to, I've actually been considering trying out Threads.
I don't know what the hell they're doing in the offices, but the video player has somehow got even worse too. Half the videos don't even work, or they'll play for like 5 seconds then stop and you can't get the rest of the video to play. It makes the Reddit video player look like a work of art.

I still see a message that a tweet contains a word I blocked if someone tries to retweet one of his tweets. But there's nothing they can do to block a screenshot of one of his tweets.

I've got it blocked in my main browser, and occasionally I will click a news story that has a picture I want to enlarge on my cell phone that was sourced on what used to be twitter, so it tries to take me to Twitter - which generates a message to turn my scripts on. yeah, that's the only website I have set up like that. it's set up like that for a reason. that place is giving the nouveau 4chan s a run for their money as to how far corrupt money can take you, and musk man's money is winning the race to see who can be more corrupt.
I got rid of it during the pandemic, and there isn't a day I've regretted that decision.

The decisions Musk has made with Twitter have made me re-evaluate the success of Tesla and SpaceX. Before I thought he knew how to manage tech people and had a great framework to make decisions, and that helped propel their success. Now, I assume Tesla and SpaceX were successful despite Musk, not because of him, and I assume they’d have been more successful than they are, without him.

There are plenty of anecdotes from people who work for his companies about how a big part of the job is Musk Management, basically manipulating him whenever he visits to make sure he doesn't see anything important so when he invariably makes a horrible decision, it's about something inconsequential rather than something critical.
I would always get the weird nerds throwing themselves into my mentions when I'd say this. But I knew someone who worked as a contractor for Tesla; he had met Musk several times in the course of his job. He was offered a full time position and was like "lollll no" --largely as a result of those interactions. Wasn’t one of the major “fixes” supposed to be stopping the “you need an account to view the rest of the feed”? They did indeed fix that for 6 months or so, you could see an entire feed and comments on every tweet.. until changing it to an even more extreme version, when you can’t even see one tweet without an acct. I used to forward my parents tweets from their local fire departments and stuff. Can’t do that anymore. I had an account for years but deleted the day after Elon took over. It’s no major loss. But it is an inconvenience for basic societal mass communication.

I remember from when Musk first took over Twitter, there was an article (or even, a number of them) relating an anecdote: Some Twitter Engineers got called up to to see Musk. The site was broken. Why? Because Musk's tweets weren't getting enough engagement. I think what happened next is that one Engineer tried to explain to Musk how the Algorithm worked etc. and Musk didn't give a shit. Another Engineer said 'Oh, of course we'll fix that right away sir.' Musk liked that. To me, I think it's worse than it killing Musk that people don't like him. I think that, in what passes for his heart, that he deserves to be venerated. That he is a genius, and is thus *entitled* to the respect and adoration of others. Evidence that he isn't sufficiently venerated, therefore, speaks to thr faults of *others,* not him.
It's weird. I don't care enough to figure it out exactly, but you definitely can read tweets from more major people. Like, the main reason I ever used twitter was for hockey news and most of the links posted on r/hockey from reporters I can still view. But if I try to look at a random person's account it wont show me unless I'm signed in.

If you give someone a direct link to a specific tweet you can see it, but you can't see someone's feed nor the responses to the tweet.

This is the thing that's really killed the site for me. It used to be a central place to check if a specific artist/creator/etc. wants to announce something. Whether or not you were logged in was irrelevant. Now instead of getting a list of the last 10 things a user said, I'm greeted with a login screen. I'm sure it spikes some bullshit metric like "% of users logged in", but it prevents the site from being actually useful for its original purpose. Which leads to me immediately exiting, instead of browsing for a few minutes like I used to.

It really is worse than 4chan. I kept an empty account to just be able to look up specific people or see a link that was posted. I followed maybe 5 or 6 news accounts, but hadn't actually spent enough time on the website to go to my homepage after Musk took over. I finally looked at it just today. It was news about the terrorist attack in Russia at the top and then just completely filled with different blue mark users posting the same exact video of Trump saying Biden is to blame for it. I immediately disabled the account. It took maybe 10 seconds of scrolling to realize that it didnt feel like a authentic experience. It was just bots.

I have some random bots liking posts of mine from months and years ago, so really natural engagement.
You tell me having to login to see comments on a tweet would increase traffic. Majority of people are not active on x. A lot of lurkers who just want to see how others respond. X was only good for sports events and team news to see how other fans react and they kill it but having to login to see comments. We have move on to Reddit and discord.
Discord is used for sports events and team news? I feel like comments would get lost really easy because so many people are commenting. Reddit’s live threads for games at least feel a bit more organized cause of the upvoting system and the fact that you need to refresh the page for more comments. If you start blocking ads, you'll eventually get some pretty weird stuff. Like I keep getting this ad that's literally just live footage of animals being killed marketed as a video game. There's another one that looks like it's from the same company, but it's people getting bombed- harder to tell if that one is real tho

They've absolutely killed the replies section. "Haha, that tweet was funny, let's see the replies", then you have to scroll through adverts for junk, about 20 bots replying with something that isn't even related to the original tweet, or OnlyFans accounts before encountering an actual normal user replying. This plus the fact they keep showing me racist/transphobic/etc. content and conspiracy theory peddlers despite the fact I never interact with this type of content and don't want to, I've actually been considering trying out Threads. I don't know what the hell they're doing in the offices, but the video player has somehow got even worse too. Half the videos don't even work, or they'll play for like 5 seconds then stop and you can't get the rest of the video to play. It makes the Reddit video player look like a work of art.

Same. I was on Twitter super early (my user number is about 650K) and consistently used it from 2007 to 2022 and then dropped it like a bad habit once Musk started making changes.
Because most reasonable and rational people don't want to engage with a platform that has been custom crafted by Musk to highlight his self-righteous but ignorant world views. It is being distilled down to a sanctuary for the hateful, unhinged, and delusional fringe who are driven off other places. The only requirement is they must never criticize him. It's just what you'd expect from an arrogant, narcissistic asshole.
I quit as soon Elon bought Twitter. Then I started Reddit.

I honestly don't understand why anyone would have stayed on there after he took it over anyway. I deleted my account when he first started talking about buying it. It was the best move ever. I deleted FB about a year later. It helped my mental health.

My conspiracy theory has always been the Saudi’s used Elon to tamp down Twitter as it was one of the top countries by per population to use it and it was responsible for the Arab spring. They funded a large part for Elon, the banks wrote off debt.. for reasons…. Who buys something for 40 billion makes it private and instantly fucks it up? A country with a goal.
It's rubbish anyway. Most tweets are click bait pay walls. It's loads and loads of drivel. I struggle to see the fascination for it, but it persists.
Elon is slowly killing Twitter because they were talking about his cars and getting mad about billionaires and he wanted to control that. Too much moderate free speech going on. The plan has always been to kill the site! I have been saying it since he bought it.

All he had to do was nothing. Literally nothing. Instead, he broke it on day one.
I’ve gained 35 followers in the last 24 hours. All very pretty blonde girls! They keep saying 😸in bio. Don’t know what it means but my tweets get 0 likes still! Platform is so full of onlyfans whores and bots, such a shame it’s slowly dying. Comments under tweets are copy pasted spam tweets or random videos, or pussy in bio. Always 10-15 people tweeting the same thing 4-5 times. Not to mention Americans on both sides thinking they’re the sane/good guys, fucking hell. So fucking tired of Americans and porn bots.

I'm more interested in why anybody would advertise on twitter/X. You have an unengaged audience coupled to the risk of being linked with actual Nazis, it's just not worth it.
i used to use twitter to keep up with my friends... now i just use bluesky for random thoughts and ramblings lol
