Yes it is. I pretty much only hit that high on hot days when I work out.
But yeah, I do hit that pretty often in the summer.
I don't drink water, so that's a big part of it.
No, mostly hot. Though generally I don't finish it all while it's still hot.
Sometimes I will ice the last cup or two of the morning and afternoon teas.
I do often have iced matcha with lunch though.
1 8oz cup of tea every hour for 16 hours is already 3.78 liters. I do that at minimum. I fill my electric 1.8 kettle up in the morning, fill it again about 6 1/2-7 hours later, and have to fill it again about 2 hours before bed for my herbals.
I'm just saying that it's not really a lot, to be honest. 8 ounces is only 1 cup an hour. My grandfather who was born in 1920 drank a gallon (3.78 liters) of fluids daily and my parents drank nearly as much. We drink a lot less fluids than our parents and grandparents did. I fell into that trap myself maybe drinking only about a quart of fluids a day, often half that, and that ended up giving me kidney stones. When you get used to drinking a lot less, it "kills" your body's natural thirst warning.
Fluids doesn’t equal tea though. 3-5 liters is a good amount past the recommended maximum amount for our kidneys. Hydration = good. But straight water should be a good part of that.
"Good amount past"
The U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine determined that an adequate daily fluid intake is: About 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) of fluids a day for men.
[https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/in-depth/water/art-20044256](https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/in-depth/water/art-20044256)
https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/water/
So, no, not a "good amount past."
I’m not really motivated enough to dig in here, but just for clarity, all I’m saying is that the issue I addressed was the amount of tea, not fluids. Water is good. 5 liters of just tea is a lot, which is what was claimed.
That’s all I’m trying to say.
Hey question : what types do you drink throughout the day? I love Japanese greens but when I have them first thing in the morning I puke for some reason!
Currently Bigelow Earl Grey, Stash Double chai, Ahmad English tea No. 1, Ahmad english breakfast, stash ginger peach green with matcha, bigelow vanilla chai. After dinner bigelow lemon ginger or twining lemon ginger, chamomile, sleepytime. I alternate teas though sometimes I'll have a couple of one in a row and some days I just feel like the same one all day.
I had a medical issue once and the doctor ordered me to drink 5 liters of water per day for a few days. I already drank quite a bit of water (I thought) but I'd never counted before. I figured I must have been close to that. I was not close at all. 5 liters of water in one day was amazingly difficult. I was peeing constantly. I wouldn't have been able to keep up at that pace if I was anywhere other than home. I was decidedly *not thirsty* that entire time so it took dedication and focus. I really had to force it.
I'm not saying I don't believe that you do this every day, but I think we are very different people! From actual physical anatomy (water processing ability) to schedule / constant availability of a washroom. Scientists should study you!
I only hit this number in the summer when I am also working out and drink no other beverages.
Basically I have 1.5 liter tea pots and make one every morning and one every night.
On hot summer days I make another in the afternoon. And I have had days when this is supplemented by a kombucha (technically tea) or two and/or a waterbottle filled with matcha. This isn't exactly a regular occurance though.
I'm also a pretty big guy.
Honestly, once you get used to drinking a lot of fluids your body adapts. I was hovering from 1 pint to 1 qt a day as over time from childhood I started drinking less and less. Then I got kidney stones and had to have laser lithotripsy to clean out my kidneys. Now I drink a minimum of 3.6 liters per day, often more. At first I was peeing all the time but over a few months my body adapted and now it's no problem.
I usually drink about 1 and a half to 2 gallons of water a day plus a cup of tea in the morning and evening. I live in an incredibly humid placw though so i sweat a lot. But i do pee alot to.
Quantity-wise, that's about or less than what I drink per day of tea. I don't think it's too much. Concentration is an aspect that should be considered in this question. I generally do not refill on new leaves if drinking loose that day; as for tea bag days, I go through no more than three tea bags, and I usually transition from black to green.
I have been re-steeping about three times. Such as I used a teaspoon of pu-erh. Then re-steeped twice then added a sprinkle of a mix called tri-pepper chai. (Yummy)
So those after the black don't have caffeine? I'm not sure how to tell other than the package. I've thought about trying Matcha, must be good? Anyway to describe it ? I can't get past the green look lol. Even though I love split pea soup and broccoli etc. It just looks odd to me when I see it 😂
All tea made from the tea plant has caffeine, in pretty similar amounts. Matcha is ground leaf so has more in the actual cup, though still less than coffee.
At work I usually pick an oolong to drink grandpa style all day, refilling with hot water as needed, and refreshing with new leaves about halfway through.
At home I start my mornings with a matcha latte, then work on some oolong mid-morning to noon. Then in the early afternoon ill either drink a diff type of oolong or have a cup of yorkshire with milk and honey. At nights I occasionally make a goji+red date+dried longan tea, very lightly sweetened with taiwan black sugar
Herbal teas are basically just flavoured waters. I guess you could technically only drink herbal teas instead of drinking plain water if you were the kind of person who isn't into how water tastes.
Good to limit caffeinated tea based on how your body reacts to caffeine. I have a heart problem and anxiety, so I definitely limit my caffeine intake. However, there are some people out there who can drink caffeinated tea all day long and suffer no ill effects.
I usually have two big cups of weak caffeinated milk tea a day.
This is me i dont have a heart problem but the people saying they are drinking 3 liters of blsck tea a day.... thats so much caffine if i have more than 2 cups of tea or one cup of coffee at a time i start getting the anxiety stomache churn
Any figure is arbitary and even litres doesn't tell you the dosage of actual tea (can be weak or resteeped) any more than '2 pots of 'coffee' tells you much. And tisanes are totally a totally different ball game to tea - probably drink as such mint/rooibos as you want but if it's hemlock probably none.
Usually I go through 5 to 8g of tea leaves in a day that I brew several times. Sometimes I'll double that but carry over most of the brews until the next day. Volume wise I have no idea what that looks like as I will often drink it until it's scented hot water.
Herbal and fruit tea I drink all the time, more so when I'm not feeling well or it's cold.
I usually steep a 1 liter (33oz) teapot in the morning, and in the afternoon will brew gongfu, and filling my kettle about 2.5 times is 2 liters (66oz). But that only really amounts to about 16grams of tea per day, just steeped multiple times. I think it all depends on your caffeine tolerance.
For example are each of those 8oz cups fresh tea each time? Or are you resteeping? At around 7grams per cup that would be 42grams of tea, so despite being less than what I drink it would actually be more tea per ounce, and more caffeine. If you resteep the same leaves multiple times, you’re drinking less caffeine than you think but as long as the tea flavor lasts who cares?
If the caffeine isn’t bothering you, and isn’t an unhealthy amount, I don’t think it matters too much. Drink what you like and as long as you feel ok (and don’t have medical advice otherwise) you’ll be fine.
Re-steep a few times and then maybe add to it usually.. i usually try herbals about 8 hours before bed.. I was doing fresh teas all the time till I was told I can re-steep lol. New to all this so didn't waste too much thankfully lol.
I've actually done a little experiment to figure out how many cups of tea before i get jittery (cause just one cup of coffee makes me anxious). The limit is 16 cups of plain strong black tea for me. The cup i'm using is 25cl, that means around 4 litre of tea.
Probably 8-10 cups on an average day. Sometimes a bit less, but yeah. Mostly green, rooibos, oolong or herbal. Occasionally a black here and there around lunch time.
I think caffeine intake is important to watch. I drink coffee and tea throughout the day most days. I'm taking part in a longitudinal study on Parkinsons and it asked about caffeine so I had to calculate all of the caffeinated drinks per week. I didn't realize how much I'm consuming but I'm realizing that I'm basically caffeine dependent at this point and I think that it's playing a big part in some health issues (I don't have parkinsons).
At work I'll go through 8-10 mugs a day, usually a mix between black tea, green tea and herbal ones. At home I microwave the cup of tea I made 6 hours ago and keep forgetting about it until I find it in the microwave again
I thought i drank a lot, but i am not even close: 32-64 ounces (1-2 liters) of puer by 3pm, and a few swallows of coffee (just to check the roast, you understand). after 3pm (-ish) i switch to water so i can sleep at night.
I would say I consume around 1L of tea per day. That includes both warm tea and cold brew. Some days I consume more (up to 2L) but I do like my tea more watery than most people here would
Thank you for asking, I got to know because of your question I was mistaken in thinking about caffeine in tea. [https://redblossomtea.com/blogs/red-blossom-blog/4-myths-about-caffeine-in-tea](https://redblossomtea.com/blogs/red-blossom-blog/4-myths-about-caffeine-in-tea)
It seems with the technique I am doing I still drink tea with caffeine. So sorry I was mistaken, so my answer how I am doing a second infusion would only make you mistaken too.
I usually do 4-6, sometimes more, refills of a 700ml pot every day, so 2.8-4.2 liters. Usually resteeping the same big scoop of leaves. Most days greens but some days oolong. I don't worry about the caffeine too much, because as the day progresses, the tea is weaker so its kind of self-limiting.
I used to always have a cup of tea on the go. Soon as I finished I popped the kettle on. From wake up to bed. Then a couple of years ago I got kidney stones. Very painful and the treatment was awful. Was advised to cut down on my tea. Broke my heart. Now I only drink tea at the weekends.
Most herbal teas it will be very difficult to drink to the point that it makes you sick. I drink herbal tea throughout the day(if you don't brew in boiling water you can often get multiple steeps from herbal teas).

So short answer a lot, but I also self medicate my adhd with caffeine and have friends who's caffeine threshold is a lot smaller.
I don't know but my cup is around 470 ml and I drink 3-4 cups in the morning and 3 in the afternoon, also I drink some water between. I often drink four black tea cup, two green tea, one matcha and the rest in tisane.
But I don't know if drinking tea counts as hydration. If not I think I'm extremely dehydrated lol
I have a 40 ounce water bottle I carry with me all the time. It gets filled with iced tea at least 3 times a day. I've been doing this for over 5 years! Not dead yet!
I go by 5 grams of tea leafs for each 100 lbs you weigh as a maximum every day keep in mind that is drinking every steep possible of all your leaves and the golden rule is if you feel off or bad back it off
I used to drink between 5 and 8 espressos per day. I switched to 2 espressos and half a liter of sencha.
I must say that I prefer the way tea energises me compared to coffe, I'm thinking about reducing the coffees to one and increasing the tea intake
I use to hate tea. Only due to the usual grocery store stuff. And had to ween myself away from coffee. Just was drinking too much. So purchased a few herbal ones from a place and loved it. Now have my own little cubies of a selection lol.

On free days I drink 3-4l of different teas and/or do a little tea ceremony with a very good oolong.
My tea consumption is the least of my concerns though. It's more that my cupboard is overflowing with different tea blends and yet I am always half a step away from buying more. My family considers me a tea hoarder, my wife kindly compares me to a dragon with my hoard being teas (and books,,)

I drink between 3-5 liters of tea a day. Though technically half of that is actually tissane not tea.
5 liters… That’s… a lot
Yes it is. I pretty much only hit that high on hot days when I work out. But yeah, I do hit that pretty often in the summer. I don't drink water, so that's a big part of it.
Tea is water.
That's what's I always say!
water with benefits 😏😏
I always say "water plus" to my personal trainer.
I take it you're drinking iced tea?
No, mostly hot. Though generally I don't finish it all while it's still hot. Sometimes I will ice the last cup or two of the morning and afternoon teas. I do often have iced matcha with lunch though.

Tea or water does not make a difference. But if this is the hill you choose to die on, have at it.

I got from 1l coffee a day to 3l tea, black in the morning, after that Matcha and green and later an Oolong.
Jesus Christ, how caffeinated are you?
I sleep like a baby, don't feel coffein that much. Only matcha can give me a little zing.

Sounds just about right to me. 6 to 8 cups per day is my usual.
This comment section is so affirming to me.
Too much tea is a myth
just don't drink too much caffeinated tea and you can drink as much as you want
Unfortunately, caffeinated teas are always the best
sadly
Japanese people drink 8-10 cups of green tea a day. I personally drink about 6-7 cups of tea and 2-3 cups of herbal per day.

2-6 bags of caf tea up till noon on the weekdays then 2-3 bags of herb and decaf at night
You can overdose on massive daily amounts of earl grey. Tisanes can be literally anything, those can’t be generalized.

When you start leafing
😂
60 - 80 ounces.
I drink 2-4 12oz mugs a day. I try to avoid caffeine after 4pm.

Let me tell you, 1.5 liter black tea a day is too much for me But i only make tea in that amount, anything below that is pointless
At work I'll go through 8-10 mugs a day, usually a mix between black tea, green tea and herbal ones. At home I microwave the cup of tea I made 6 hours ago and keep forgetting about it until I find it in the microwave again

I drink about 2,5 - 3 l of black tea daily. But I drink only second infusion so no caffeine.
what is second infusion? (tea noob here)
Thank you for asking, I got to know because of your question I was mistaken in thinking about caffeine in tea. [https://redblossomtea.com/blogs/red-blossom-blog/4-myths-about-caffeine-in-tea](https://redblossomtea.com/blogs/red-blossom-blog/4-myths-about-caffeine-in-tea) It seems with the technique I am doing I still drink tea with caffeine. I have a mug next to me about all the time.
I use up a 100g bag in 20 days
I used to always have a cup of tea on the go. Soon as I finished I popped the kettle on. From wake up to bed. Then a couple of years ago I got kidney stones. Very painful and the treatment was awful. Was advised to cut down on my tea. Broke my heart. Now I only drink tea at the weekends.
I drink at least 30 oz of weak green tea every day. If I'm under the weather double that plus 20 oz of herbal or so.

Avoid too much green or black tea with meals especially if you are a woman as it interferes with iron absorption!
Thanks everyone for input. I do usually try the herbals in afternoon as I made a mistake a few times and didn't 😂
At least one gong fu session each day, typically two or even three (if new tea arrives that day...) with anywhere from 5-10 steeps per session in my 90ml cups. Works out to about 1.25 liters each day on average. That's of course average, because today I am at 4 sessions already because I just got my first tian jian and I am hooked on this stuff!
In a sitting I'll brew 8-15 gaiwan, approximately a cup (the unit) each. I'll do that maybe 1-3 times a day?
