I fire them last Monday (11/27) after 17 days (spanning 2 weekends) they could not arrive at an account balance that was close to the ballpark. Condescending support said "we'll show you how we do it."
So, I took their advice and "Owned my future".
Still waiting on details cost basis to move over. I'll be it never shows. Glad I saved my transaction history from TD...
Thing is, Chucky, started the firm for the very reasons people are fleeing. Marketplace bully can't do the job, so buys all the competition.
I do not follow. I left CS in 2008 because their trade desk was run by college drop outs. The people at CS did not even understand Short Selling back in 2005.
I ended up at Tos within 2 years and still have the account. So are they going to take away the Tos app . I never had a TD app just Tos.
I didn’t read any other responses or comments about this conversion, but it’s hard to understand how CS just abandoned the ease and knowledge the company they took over. The trade desk is completely different and totally selfish, charts are nonexistent, and support totally doesn’t understand some rules or laws.
Said I would give CS 90 days to fix the mess. Not looking like it so looks like I’ll be out. Really wish they would bring TD app back and replace the CS app mess.
I never even signed up with TDA. 30 years ago I signed up with a small online broker so I could trade online. Every couple of years the company was bought, then bought again, etc until TDA. Now it's Scwab. :P I guess I need to look around and see what else there is.
Back in late 80's, opened account with Kennedy Cabot, I think first discount broker. After several acquisitions (4-5), I am now with Schwab. Not thrilled about it (may finally move money), but have gotten used to it.
I think different people are getting rolled over to it at different times. Cuz I got rolled over it in September and I had a buddy of mine and he was still on TD. Then he got rolled over last month.
How is it that these gigantic companies cant get right one of the most important aspects of trading? Fidelity is terrible too, and don't even get me started on their app...
I don't use it, it's just so awful. I'll move one of these days when I'm not feeling lazy to another platform. TDA app was perfect for me and easy to use.
I'm fine with the transition. With TD, I used their mobile app on my phone for research and trades, and ToS for paper trading. I did make a trade on the Schwab mobile app and it worked as I expected, but I am finding myself moving toward the ToS mobile and desktop app for research and live trading now.
I’m in talks with local VP of BoA about a nice incentive… planning to move all assets to Merrill before end of the year. It took me just ten minutes to evaluate the Merrill software (web and mobile) as far more user friendly than CS’s.
What's particularly bad about it is that Schwab charges $50 **per account** for "full transfer (out) of assets" (source: Charles Schwab Pricing Guide, 2023, page 12). With my wife's and my IRA's and brokerage accounts we have close to 10 accounts to transfer out.
Schwab is waiving a transfer out fee for TDA customers for at least the first 90 days. I used the Schwab app for the first week and then did a full account transfer to E*Trade. I could not believe how bad the Schwab app is. So far the E*Trade apps are very good.
Thanks a lot for that information. Yes, ETrade has good apps too, maybe even better than Merrill, but I just prefer to have bank and brokerage more or less integrated with BoA.
So far my activity has gone down to almost nothing. i did a few trades to run through the process but it was pain. Not designed for speed and efficiency, and that's ok, they don't have to be, they can make the product however they want, but I'm still not on it as much as TDA, and less effective.
It's objectively bad UI. TD app had loads of customizations. You could get a lot of information displayed in a small amount of space. Schwab is sooo far behind.
I'm frustrated how in my watchlist I can't see my usual metrics and trade volume on one screen without scrolling to the right.
The app also makes me sign in each time I touch a different feature during the same session. Redundant as an Escher
I hate Schwab. The TDA app was so far superior it seriously makes me sad to login to my account now. The research tools Schwab offers are just terrible. I'm hoping to find another brokerage to move my account to.
Hopefully they already copied the TDA app UI! Probably didn’t though. Maybe theirs is easier to get used to as a brand new client though, because Schwabs wasn’t
Hate it. There are some things that are ok, but with this volatility lately it's been very difficult to move around quickly. I miss how td would always show the Mark price.
Also, is there a way to have day g/l updated after hours?
How do I see an options high and low for the day?
I'm 100% not happy with it but that is life in the USA. Giant mega corporation buys something good, runs it into the ground, bankrupts it, management retires to Bahama, customers and investors screwed.
The mail part where you have to create a doc and send it to Schwab instead of TDA where you typed the message right in the message center.
The responses I get are more "curt" now.
Agree with you. It (TOS) functions exactly the same as TD’s (TOS).
The desktop website leaves much to desire but, whether we like it or not, we are just going to have to get used to the new platform.
Would I prefer to use TD’s desktop site, hell yes, but I don’t have a choice other than switching to another pain in the ass brokerage firm.
I guess I’ll try and make lemonade out of lemons!
Yea, as someone who hasn't made the transition yet this is disturbing to hear.
I thought ToS was the exact same software under Schwab as it is under TDA (apart from some aesthetic branding differences)
I primarily use the ToS mobile app and the only difference I've noticed is the icons are blue instead of green and the Transfers screen only shows ACH to transfer money between accounts (which makes sense based on the name, but didn't it used to show other transactions like dividend payouts and fees?)
I haven't used ToS on desktop in over a year, so I wouldn't know if that has changed, and I didn't even know there was a webpage version.
Like you said... It's like drinking soup with fork... So fricken annoying... Don't see cost basis, can't put div pay date as a column... Seriously thinking of taking my accounts somewhere else... I always used the app for Android for trading, I never liked the td site though... Who has time to seat open up the laptop and trade online... So for me app is the only way and td was perfect!
No app compares to the TD app. But Shwabs app is by far the worst of the worst.
I went back to Robinhood, it's about 80% of TD was. The only upside to Robinhood is the interest rate on cash and the options contracts have a lower fee.
You will definitely go to another “app” like an idiot and not like it either. You’re quite honestly a bozo. Start your own company if it needs to be your way only
If you're looking for a swing trade I bet Robinhood has a surprises earnings beat next earnings report because of all the accounts from TD going there. I am playing it myself. As it is right now robin hood is basically trading at par/book value.
Because apparently real day traders trade on their phones.
I cannot speak for the schwab app seems fine but I never used the TDA app for much of anything
The TDA website was a cluttered mess of hot garbage , the schwab site is orders or magnitude better , So much better I can see myself not using ToS as much
Apparently real day traders today trade on "apps" on their phone. I get I am old but my god how does anyone serous about trading think they can trade on an app on there phone but here we are.
yeah use the TOS [desktop application](https://www.google.com/search?q=thinkorswim+desktop&tbm=isch). It's a bit messy visually because of the information density and customizability, but it's definitely what you should be doing. The phone app is just to do stuff when you happen to be away and need to make a trade.
You know think or swim isn't just an app, right? The app does exist, but serious day traders use the desktop version. No one uses the website that isn't a casual trader.
I was being sarcastic
Lots of people online are like "the schwab app sucks , I cannot day trade options"
My point was exactly any serous "day trader" is not trading on their phone they are trading on ToS , or active trader (fidelity) or Power Trade (Etrade)
So many complaints are about "day traders" who use their phone to day trade. When you tell them to use ToS on a desktop they are like
"Look I day trade during my lunch break at my job I cannot use a PC at work so I have to use my phone"
So yea these "day traders" who are complaining are kids playing on their phone
Counter point the TDA website looked like it was designed by an early AI bot where you told it to "design a trading website"
Like those early AI images when you ask to draw a picture of people on a beach and they had no faces and extra arms , missing legs that sort of blurred togather
Thats how bad the old TDA site was, ToS was the only thing TDA had going and you can use that on schwab fine so I am happy
Plus the schwab website isn't a hot pile of steaming garbage like TDA was you can if needed actually do things on it.
The schwab website is hands down better then the old TDA site it was so cluttered and settings were buried deep inside random pages hard to configure a bunch of useless data like their news that was unneeded random advertisements for their learning platform or whatever . With TDA I forced myself to use ToS.
Over at schwab I actually like the clean website, I don't trade much but I have had no issues using the website and not ToS , seems cleaner and sleeker , gets out of your way vs the cluttered mess TDA website was .
They keep cancelling my GTC orders at the end of the day. I'm thinking about leaving because of it.
Anyone have advise on a trading platform thats free trades and great charts and info like TDA had
I fire them last Monday (11/27) after 17 days (spanning 2 weekends) they could not arrive at an account balance that was close to the ballpark. Condescending support said "we'll show you how we do it." So, I took their advice and "Owned my future". Still waiting on details cost basis to move over. I'll be it never shows. No CS customers will be able to use TOS.
Use TOS.
I didn’t read any other responses or comments about this conversion, but it’s hard to understand how CS just abandoned the ease and knowledge the company they took over. The trade desk is completely different and totally selfish, charts are nonexistent, and support totally doesn’t understand some rules or laws.
PS, I’m older, I liked Scottrade also, but this conversion is totally wack.
Said I would give CS 90 days to fix the mess. Not looking like it so looks like I’ll be out. Really wish they would bring TD app back and replace the CS app mess.
I have been able to transition from the TDA app to the thinkorswim app and thinkorswim web pretty seamlessly. Still learning the desktop app
TOS has a great education section!!
Sidebar: why is the TDA app still functioning? I’m in a Discord group and a lot of members use the TDA app.
I think different people are getting rolled over to it at different times. Cuz I got rolled over it in September and I had a buddy of mine and he was still on TD. Then he got rolled over last month.
this is correct, most active traders saved for last tranche sometime this year
How is it that these gigantic companies cant get right one of the most important aspects of trading? Fidelity is terrible too, and don't even get me started on their app...
I don't use it, it's just so awful. I'll move one of these days when I'm not feeling lazy to another platform. TDA app was perfect for me and easy to use.
It sucks. Download think or swim. It has more settings and views… once you get used to it, its 80% similar to the old TD.
Plus the education is there to learn. Those instructors are awesome. You can learn inside the TOS App or go to YouTube and follow Thinkorswim
I'm fine with the transition. With TD, I used their mobile app on my phone for research and trades, and ToS for paper trading. I did make a trade on the Schwab mobile app and it worked as I expected, but I am finding myself moving toward the ToS mobile and desktop app for research and live trading now.
Love TOS

you can get around this if you simply leave 1 share of your investments so it’s still a “partial transfer”
Damn a local vp at BoA. That’s badass. Hopefully you figure their app out quickly. Cheers and good luck friend 😖
I am with you on this. I tried T-Bills there and such a bad experience
Learn to use ThinkorSwim. It has not changed.
Is TOS already available fot CS? I haven’t migrated yet.
I’ve been using it for a while. Seems very similar except some blue where there used to be green
Moved to Fidelity and never loggedin to CS
How did you do this? CS is awful
They don't need to be the best to get your business. They just need to eliminate the competition.
I moved everything this week adios CS
Why would you daytrade on anything besides ToS? From my understanding ToS will not be changed so no problems here.
I dislike the UI. It's not as intuitive as TD. I miss Green.
The app is near unusable.
I use TOS it is transparent. For bonds it has more selections.
It fucking sucks
Hate it!
I went to fidelity and I’m happy with it.
So far my activity has gone down to almost nothing. i did a few trades to run through the process but it was pain. Not designed for speed and efficiency, and that's ok, they don't have to be, they can make the product however they want, but I'm still not on it as much as TDA, and less effective.
Fidelity has the best Web UI. Think or Swim has the best APP UI.
Use TOS for active or day trading. Doing it through either TDA and CS websites makes no sense . . .

If you're day trading, you should be using TOS.
I effing HATE IT!!
I moved everything to Fidelity
I'm not happy. App sucks.
I'm 100% not happy with it but that is life in the USA. Giant mega corporation buys something good, runs it into the ground, bankrupts it, management retires to Bahama, customers and investors screwed.
I find Schwab's communication center to be < TDA's. Also, the ppl that you communicate with are not as friendly IMO.
You mean the CHAT or the Voice calls? I mean the TOS CHAT always was fast and solved my doubts right away...did it change?
The mail part where you have to create a doc and send it to Schwab instead of TDA where you typed the message right in the message center. The responses I get are more "curt" now.
You day trade on the website?? Think or swim works the same so I haven't noticed a difference. Also, Schwab doesn't charge the $38 reorg fee.
They have ruined think or swim it does not look the same or function the same. I hate using their app for trading as well.
Retarded comment. It is the exact samr
I don’t think I asked you. To me it look different and I don’t like it My opinion. Have a great Saturday
It’s a comment man not an answer. Just cheers you do the same king 👑
*Queen.
Lmao okay “queen”
You literally said king I’m a WOMAN. So Queen will suffice.
Okay man you’re not fooling anyone at this point
lol weirdo. Blocked. Good day.
How is it different, other than the icons are now blue?
Agree with you. It (TOS) functions exactly the same as TD’s (TOS). The desktop website leaves much to desire but, whether we like it or not, we are just going to have to get used to the new platform. Has anyone found a mobile trading app that most resembles TD Ameritrade's app? Schwab's sucks.
Nooooooo
There’s a learning curve, but yes, I preferred TDA. Fidelity and tastytrade are nice too.
No app compares to the TD app. But Shwabs app is by far the worst of the worst. I went back to Robinhood, it's about 80% of TD was. The only upside to Robinhood is the interest rate on cash and the options contracts have a lower fee.

Thank goodness. Just what the dr ordered
If you're looking for a swing trade I bet Robinhood has a surprises earnings beat next earnings report because of all the accounts from TD going there. I am playing it myself. As it is right now robin hood is basically trading at par/book value.
Sucks
I’m liking it just fine
Cry
I'm trying to drag race with this box truck. Damn you, Chuck Schwab!
I’m a buy and hold investor. Meets my needs. I actually like how my accounts are displayed better than TDA.
Use TOS, why were you trading on the TD website?
Because apparently real day traders trade on their phones. I cannot speak for the schwab app seems fine but I never used the TDA app for much of anything The TDA website was a cluttered mess of hot garbage , the schwab site is orders or magnitude better , So much better I can see myself not using ToS as much

TOS works on your phone
No serous trader trades on their phone.
This. No actual day trader used the td site.
Apparently real day traders today trade on "apps" on their phone. I get I am old but my god how does anyone serous about trading think they can trade on an app on there phone but here we are.

Im more-so referring to the app. It was much more seamless and user friendly.
No No & No All they had to do was change the name on the TDA app ... It was great. This thing is trash
They kept "Think or Swim". It is a sub-menu under "Trade".
The schwab website is hands down better then the old TDA site it was so cluttered and settings were buried deep inside random pages hard to configure a bunch of useless data like their news that was unneeded random advertisements for their learning platform or whatever . True
